YYZ would like to have a word with you.

I have changed some of my opinnions about GH2... mostly because I bought it, and a second guitar.

YYZ, on the other hand, is not worthy of it's "boss" song status. IMO, lame. No words, and it's not the type of song that support itself on music alone. I really wanted to hear some lyrics from Rush. I could pretty much agree with just about any other comment about songs being good, but YYZ missed it's mark.

Multiplayer is fantabulous. Training is spectacular. Trogdor is godly. Free Bird is intense, and incredibly nostalgic to when I saw Skynyrd in concert. Except being a cover, the vocals were funny not coming from a Van Zant.

As for my changes to my prior comments:
Sweet Child of Mine - Rules
Monkey Wrench - Rules
Killing in the Name - Closer to good than not-good
Jessica - Awesome
Carry Me Home - Can crawl in a gutter and die slowly and painfully. I can own Psychobilly Freakout, but this song gives me grief.
Misirlou - Fun and Exciting
Beast and the Harlot & Hangar 18 - Sounds good.
Less talk More Rokk - From my favoritest repeat group ever. Also great for technical practice with HO/POs. You can buy some of their music on vinyl on the internet.
Jordan - Will Own You (Very Fun!)
Thunderhorse - Humorus, and Hard
Trogdor - TROGDOR!!! Need I really say more?

I went back and 5-starred the Medium songs. The Viking guitar is wierd.
I have tomorrow off. I'm gonna 100% every song in easy. (Not just 5 stars anymore!)

Edit
And still, except for Trogdor, nothing on GH2 even touched the goodness that is Stellar, Infected, and More than a Feeling. I still side with my GH1. tongue.gif

I am in desperate need of help.

All you GHII veterans out there, I need some pointers. Right now I've been stuck on Psychobilly Freakout for a while. Mainly I can't get past the pat in the chorus where you're doing alternating chords. (e.g. R+B -> Y+O -> R+B -> Y+O, etc.) It's like that at mach speed. And I can't do it. I've tried using my middle and index fingers and sliding them and using all four fingers, but it just isn't working out. So if anyone can remember how they got past this part I'd love your help.

Well, there's no real strategy to the game - everyone has different ways of being comfortable with the controller. There are a few things you can do to make songs easier though.

I'm not sure which difficulty that is (never really liked that song so I don't know it too well) but if you're playing learn NOT to keep your fingers on the keys (ie, index on G, middle finger on R...) It's impossible to play that way at hard or expert first off unless you have some mutant 6th finger and second, the last thing you want is make a habit of playing like that because the transition from medium to hard will be pretty harsh.

For alternating notes, I find it's easiest if you slide your fingers so that your index and middle fingers are on the notes in question. It's harder to use your pinky and that other finger nobody really uses IRL but keeps on for the sake of esthetics. With chords, it's a bit harder since you may need more fingers. Give practice a shot at a slower speed until you can easily shift your fingers between the two patterns. Seriously, if you get stuck, go in practice mode and slow it down until you have no problem doing the pattern.

I find it's a pretty bad idea to slide you hand when the game alternates between two notes or chords, especially if it's fast. It's easier to keep a rythm if you press the keys by moving your fingers up and down because your hands tend to synch up pretty well with each other if they do the same thing (it's like that patting your head while moving your other hand in a circle thing, or whatever that was.) Plus if things go too fast, you may overshoot or worse lose your place entirely.

If you really can't beat a part, save up your star power for it and do your best - your health won't drop so fast under the influence of star power because every note you get boosts it by quite a bit. Sometimes if the notes don't last too long and are too hard, you can get by just hitting one of the chords everytime (at the cost of hurting your score.)

But the best thing to do is use practice mode to work up the proper dexterity and settle into the proper pattern to beat the song you're stuck on.

Well you seem to think I'm on medium or some difficulty (I'm on expert to be clear), but in case my example wasn't clear enough here's a link for clarification.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQw6Dj-H3AQ

I don't know how that guy managed to do that but hits all of them, even though he has a ton of trouble with the intro. And in case you can't use that in conjunction with my example I'll just tell you it's about 40 seconds in and it's in there more three times total.

And practicing isn't gonna help. By this point I've practiced the section so much- almost a months worth- and it hasn't gotten easier. I've actually managed to five star a few of the earlier expert songs in the mean time, I've gotten so finger flexible. I can even about ace the intro now, but that chorus is still hell.

Still, I refuse to give up.

Edit
And for FURTHER clarification, I can get to the third time it shows up before I have no star power and am about dead anyway

If you just hold down R+B and hit each one of those, and don't even try to hit the Y+O's, you should make it... that's what I did, and I passed it my second try...

The most important thing is to not even ATTEMPT to alternate if you can't do it reliably. A missed strum hurts your rock meter far more than just outright skipping a chord. You'll lose about one "color" on your rock meter on each one of these sections that way.

Another thing to remember is that the beat is the exact same as the G, R+Y, G, R+Y section, so if you can get that rhythm down, you're set.

EDIT: Something I said sounded assholish, so I took it out.

Alright, I probably should have added this earlier, but after a few fruitless attempts, I was able to beat Psychobilly Freakout using ATS's strategy. I just beat the game like a few minutes ago, so thanks for that strategy. I couldn't have gotten past it without it.

P.S. Freebird rocks

I actually beat psychobilly freakout with ATS' strategy as well. You wouldn't think it would work, but it totally did.

On top of that, my personal strategy is to play through an entire song in slowest on training mode and get at least a 95%, then up it to full speed in training one time through, and then complete the song, there isn't a song yet that tactic hasn't worked for. (I'm still amazed it worked for Carry me home tho, that song is so intese!) Although, I still have to do it with Mad House (i've been busy as of late), then YYZ. But on another strange note, there hasn't been a encore yet that I couldn't do first time through. I know Free Bird will bash that to smithereens tho. sad.gif Oh well, it's all good! thumbup.gif

AND THIS BIRD YOU'LL NEVER CHAAAAAANGEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I can't stress how much fun I'm having lately with this game, I don't know why either. Maybe it's due to the people I've found to face-off or co-op with, but it seems like it's taking on a new life with me. Freebird especially makes me feel all warm inside whenever I nail it.

I'm pretty fond of a lot of the bonus songs, but I can't stop doing that Bang Camaro song, Push (Lady Lightning). It's the catchy-ness of it.

Agree with Jessica

Verymuch agree with Freya (That's Very + much as one word it's so much agreeance)

As for 360, yeah, but I think you'll have to buy them, or else they will be released slowly. My guess is songs will be available very much in a Wii Virtual Console sort of way.

As for right now, I downloaded everything I need to make my own songs! The only thing that I need now is to mod, or buy a modded PS2. Scorehero has some amazing tutorials and freeware to make songs with. I did purchase a midi maker solely for the purpose of it's ease of use with the tutorial I was reading.

Song #1 to be added shall be "Why Do You Love Me" by Garbage.
Edit
And in under 24 hours from 0 experience with the softwares, the game componet of Why Do You Love Me is awesome and kickin! I still gotta get that modded PS2 now... dry.gif

The next few songs after I get it down to an art will consist of Blink 182 and +44.
Then, Just because I can, I may try importing Stellar and Even Rats to GH2 solely for Pro-Face Off Functionality.

It might be interesting to add dueling banjos into the game tongue.gif

I've never been much of a heavy metal person, so many of the songs mentioned here are of little interest to me.

Also, for anybody interested, my scorehero. At the time of posting this, I only have my easy scores in. I felt like getting the USA, so I 100%ed the game songs, and started the extras. I have many more scores, they're just not in yet sad.gif
