There should be another way to get it also.. if I remember correctly from the FFIII for NES version, I thought you found it somewhere else before that last battle?

You win it from Goddess and I believe you can steal it from one of those weird people in the final battle with Kefka.

My memory must be way off.. because I remember beating the game several times and I thought poltergeist, doom, and goddess were all in the same battle as each transform after their defeat (unless they are different creatures in the battle), then Kefka, then Kefkas last form would transform in the same battle..

No, you're thinking of the tower you climb in the final boss fight. You fight the three statues before you can engage Kefka.

Oh, my mistake. I was thinking that the tower climb were gods in a way.
