Ok so, I swear I used to be able to do this first try whenever I played the game (or just about anyway). It's the dueling mini-game right at the start of disc one.
For the life of me, I can't seem to impress 100 nobles. I can press all the correct buttons and with decent reflexes but it only seems to impress about 98 at most. I know timing helps as well so the only thing I can think of that is stopping me from getting 100 is all the left and right movements I seem to get. All the other buttons I can deal with, but the lefts and rights don't give you any time to see the next button to press before they stop, unlike all the other buttons. Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with the lefts and rights or even if it might be something else? Cheers. |

I'm afraid I've never managed more than 98 nobles myself.
From browsing GFAQs, one of the most common tips tends to be to cover your TV screen with paper or cardboard or such with a cutout over where the button inputs appear to make it easier for one to focus on pressing the buttons as soon as they appear and not be distracted by the movement on screen. Also, apparently if one is playing the PSN version on their psp one can cheat by pressing the home button to slow down the inputs. Other than that, it seems to be a matter of practice. Good luck! -------------------- FF games completed: I (psp), II (psp), III (DS), IV (psp), V (GBA), VI (GBA), VII, VIII, IX, X, XI: Nations-Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, XII, XIII, XIV, XV. Thanks, that covering the screen thing has actually helped me up to 99 nobles pleased. Still can't quite get to 100 after about 10 tries so far but I will keep trying!
It's definitely helped with the left and right movements though, seem to press the next button after those a bit quicker. |

If you're getting 98 or 99 to impress that last noble you need to be faster. That's all it is, nothing about timing. You need to hit buttons slightly faster. You know when there's an unexpected button and you pause for half a second? That kills the 100 being impressed.

Is there any special reward for getting 100? I recall that there is a very nice item for impressing a lot and the queen, but I am just not sure about 100.

You get a Moonstone for doing all 100, Bas, plus 10k gil, I believe.

It's very worthwhile at the start of the game. 10,000 gil and the Moonstone for an early Beast Killer and Shell.

Yeh and impressing 99, in comparison, only gets you a Silk Shirt and a small amount of money. I'm attempting a level 1 game, so the Moonstone and 10k Gil will be invaluable. Edit Ahhh! Just managed to finally do it! The covering your screen thing definitely helps, especially if it's made out of card rather than paper as it won't be slightly see through. Thanks all! Thanks. The only thing is I don't think it's possible to have a truly level 1 game because of the forced battles in Pandemonium?

Is there a way to have Virus on your party members during that battle though? I don't think you can cause it yourself and aren't any statuses that you might have had beforehand removed before these battles?

You could search for enemies giving you that status. Although I am not certain if the chars get healed before the battles there.

I looked on Gamefaqs and Zombie does apparently remove exp growth. Go with that I'd say.

But then there's the same problem of I don't think there's anyway to cast Zombie on yourself. There aren't any Zombie attacks that the party can use are there?

Hmm you're right. I've read a low-level walkthrough and another level 1 challenge. Both say that the exp is unavoidable at the point. Also I looked up the monsters and although one can be petrified or stopped the other is immune to everything it seems. I couldn't find what the other monster was.
Short of a glitch it seems impossible. I suppose you'll have to, if possible, petrify the one or hopefully both other monsters with Needle Fork, Sargatarius (too early?), or Obelisk if it's available. Garnet will definitely need to take exp if you kill off Zidane. I suppose it could be worse, you'll just not be able to use one or possibly two characters for the rest of the game. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Ok, so I haven't even got that far yet (not played it a lot recently) but it seems I've already broken my level 1 game.
Was the Zaghnol at the festival of the hunt the only place to get the Needle Fork at this point in the game? Because I missed it and it seems I can't get through Gizamaluke's Grotto EXP free without it. :/ |

Yeah, the early-appearing Needle Fork's necessary to petrify enemies in the Grotto. Sorry to say but it's absolutely essential to proceeding, and it's not carried in any vendors 'til Burmecia. Pretty sure there are guides and youtubers who've done Lv1 runs around, so if you're roughing it, I'd suggest checking those out first to save y'some grief.

I was actually able to impress all 100 nobles within the first few tries without any tricks - was quite surprised to say the least. Assumed it must be easy :/ lol

It was doing this mini game (primo necro, btw) that caused me to learn that if you take the time away from focusing on the commands Blank is giving you to even swear at a mistake you make, then you will be too distracted to impress all 100 nobles.
Breathe, relax, concentrate and react. That's all there is to it. It's about 4.8 billion times as fair as the jump rope game. This post has been edited by Spooniest on 4th April 2018 12:47 -------------------- X is blue. |

You know, I did this again recently on the Steam version with a PS4 controller and I barely struggled. I don't know if the PSN version was harder or if I was just having a bad day back then or what.

I just watched a video on this, and you were supposed to talk to the Queen as Steiner to get the Moonstone. I didn't do that, so I missed out on it. And apparently there's a trophy for getting all four Moonstones in the game. I guess I'll be replaying again in the future to get that trophy. -------------------- Watch me play games on Twitch!
