Both Chrono Trigger songs in the lower half of the quarterfinals fell, with Crono's Theme going down at the hands of the Final Fantasy VI Ending Theme, and Black Dream being stopped by Trisection from FFT.
A newcomer this year is Crono's character theme, Chrono Trigger. While Crono doesn't necessarily start out as Time's Hero, there's no questioning his spirit of adventure, and adventure is the primary theme I can hear in this track. Listen long enough to get to the emotional bridge. Black Dream is a moody, dark track that plays, yes, during the game's final assault on the Black Omen (whenever you might feel like doing that in time). |

Fun fact: I actually first listened to Black Dream long before I got to that dungeon. This was back in the day where I didn't actually listen to the in-game music specifically, but people's MIDI versions of it. And it was still pretty glorious.
Chrono Trigger as a whole is a source of inspiration, and Crono's theme is no exception to this. My main beef with it is that it doesn't loop, so I can't put it on and have it loop. So it just lasts for almost two minutes, and then stops. It's a great scene track, but aside from two musical ideas it doesn't quite do much. I really wish it looped. Black Dream is an excellent scene-setter and is just as catchy. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Probably the two best remaining songs. I don't have strong emotions for any of them. In each of the remaining games there are much better songs. But for CT, these two songs are well-representative of the game's soundtrack.
I chose Crono's theme, but either one should probably win the competition. Edit Just realized this is the loser bracket, so disregard Edit Except... these two songs were two of the best remaining, and they lost? And Dancing Mad lost? I'm losing faith in things! So I get another chance to vote for Black Dream? Yay! It's certainly more varied than the decidedly one note track that Chrono Trigger is, and does a better job of unsettling me than CT does of uplifting me. Plus, I still feel little bad about voting against it during it's last match-up. So yeah, pretty easy vote this time.

Another thing, Crono's theme feels empty without Presentiment in front of it. -------------------- |

Quote (BlitzSage @ 12th December 2017 21:45) Very nice arragenement. Also, yeah, I find that some of these tracks are inappropriately affected by what they contain in the case of tracks that are clearly multiple musical segments put together. Like, for example, what if you matched up the FF4 ending with the FF10 ending? I'm almost certain the FF10 ending as given is not the entire ending theme but probably just the epilogue (I haven't played FF10 so I can't say for sure), while the FF4 ending track IS the entire ending. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I honestly voted for it within that context. Presentiment and Crono's theme together are an incredible opening. But neither song is complete without the other.

This one could go either way depending on mood.
For once, I'm letting myself be swayed by the discussion and going for Black Omen theme. More variety whereas my liking of Chrono Trigger comes from the segment a minute in, without which it's just "whatever." |

It'll stay open an extra day (in this case, until the morning of the 18th, American time) unless it's still deadlocked then. Nobody gets a second vote.

Okay, sounds reasonable. Another quick question pertaining to polls. Is it possible to change your vote while the poll is still open, and if not, is it possible to change the polling system? I'm not bringing this up just for this vote. It's just something I've been wondering for a while. -------------------- |

It's just something I've been wondering for a while. Neither of those are possible under the current forum system, which also runs the forum polls. A few years back, we might have looked into updating that, but currently it's hard to justify the time expense of doing so relative to the amount of business we get. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Snuck in my vote via overtime! It was for Chrono Trigger -- but will another vote lead it back to a tie??
