Liberi Fatali is tied for the highest seed to make it this far, and it hasn't had an easy go of it since round one. It beat Techno de Chocobo, J-E-N-O-V-A, and Aerith's Theme on the way. The FF10 Ending Theme has had nothing but tight matches, beating At Zanarkand, One Winged Angel, and Cyan's Theme (in overtime!).
While some websites saw jokes about Final Fantasy VIII go too far over the years, there's one thing that nobody can question about that game: Liberi Fatali is the best-known music that game has. It's got that chorus of voices chanting faux Latin (and then real Latin!), and the angry drums of war beneath soaring fanfare. This is a track made for Distant Worlds, where it's been in rotation for many years. The Ending Theme for Final Fantasy X incorporates previous themes with its own melodies, a pattern familiar to players of prior games in the series. Final Fantasy X also keeps a strong theme throughout its soundtrack, with many of its themes repeating phrases from others, making this overture-style ending theme a tightly integrated part of the overall score. |

So I came here to vote for Liberi Fatali over FF10's ending theme but then after listening to the latter again I'm not sure anymore. Still undecided.
I think I've voted for and against both of these tracks in their previous matchups; if I recall correctly, both got two votes for it and one vote against it (in their most recent past matchups). -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Incredibly difficult vote for me: these are probably my favorite two tracks in the competition. After waffling back and forth, leaving and coming back to this several times, I decided to toss in my vote for the FFX Ending Theme.
I think it's a better melody than Liberi, and the arrangement is really quite something: moving from tremulous strings to triumphal horns, powerful crescendos to sudden wrenching silences, it manages to capture a lot of the emotional valences of an ending that is one of the most multi-emotional in the series. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Both tracks are very effective at what they do. Both tracks are also non-looping. Liberi Fatali is more cohesive, and excellent at keeping momentum. It's more like what I'd wish One-Winged Angel would be. It is built around this one motif consisting of four pairs of notes, and is very effectively constructed. The FFX ending theme is, on the other hand, a parade of different emotions and musical events, with an arrangement of "To Zanarkand" as the centerpiece. It also has arguably a more satisfying ending. After waffling for almost the entire time possible, I think I might vote for the FFX ending theme by a hair. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing.
