Anyone can say whatever they want...I don't think anyone's ever bothered to make an airship as fast as Sonic the Hedgehog in a video game, unless I'm seriously mistaken.
I don't remember the later FF games having airships that were anywhere near as fast as the Blackjack/Falcon. At least, not that you could control. Kinda sucks that the more expensive and top heavy the hardware is, the slower they have to make things. I miss my fast airship. The GBA version couldn't even muster the speed necessary. You'll notice that the airship doesn't corner nearly as quickly as in the SNES version. Anybody else like to go fast? -------------------- X is blue. |

Part of the issue, of course, is that the last decade and a half of FF hasn't included an airship (or for the most part, any vehicle whatsoever) of any speed. FFXV seems likely to reverse this trend at least, given what I've read, so perhaps that will give you a chance!
I do remember just flying around all fast-like when I first played FFVI. It certainly didn't hurt that the flying music was all excellent in that game! There is, however, the slightly awkward problem of the ratio of travel speed to world size: the faster you go, the smaller the world seems. -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! I'd gotten used to the "move around the world quickly, the same way" thing that FFIV and FFV did. FFVI threw me for a loop when it instead involved TURNING the world.

Quote (Glenn Magus Harvey @ 1st December 2014 11:33) I'd gotten used to the "move around the world quickly, the same way" thing that FFIV and FFV did. FFVI threw me for a loop when it instead involved TURNING the world. On that note, it would be really interesting to see what form any future implementation of an airship would be in -- that is, if we ever see another one. (I wanna fly it! The FFX and FFXII 'ships DON'T COUNT.) Given the reasonable desire for modern developers to avoid the "it's a small world after all" effect I mentioned in my last post, though, it's really hard to imagine it making a comeback, while still preserving any other mode of world travel. One can hardly expect to see a return of big character walking on a little map. The area maps, if done in the spirit of FFXIII, would have to be isolated locations, meaning that most of the globe one would be flying over in said airship would be space otherwise non-existent to the player. An additional problem would be that one could only land in select areas - those isolated locations - which would to large degree defeat the purpose of being able to control the airship in the first place. They want to remake Final Fantasy V and VI, but there are "technical problems," they say...
This is one of them, I'd wager. This game is pretty expansive for a SNES game, even, and reproducing the experience in 3-D (the way FFIV is on the DS) has got to be murder. :/ Still, it's one of those things that just needs to be done, wouldn't you say? -------------------- X is blue. |

Yes. The FF6 airship was so extremely fast, and the graphics blew my mind. My brother and I would just fangirl over the airship, and I got really good at flying around in a nauseating manner and landing with a spin -- ugh, such a great game, never gets old.

I've always wondered if it's the 'only' airship in the world. Do the worlds' wealthy and elite not have airships of their own and crash into one another?
