This topic is about games without sequels remakes or have the same titles. Becouse I've been thinking for a while "How many games is there like that?" So yeah if you can think of any please post a reply. The only one I can think of is *Asteroids*.

There are more games than you think that fit that category. Companies are usually pretty big sequel-whores nowadays, but there are plenty of games out there that developers feel isn't worth a second effort. First of all, many games within series aren't true sequels of one another (Final Fantasy is the most obvious example there), and even those games aside there are probably more one-game "series" than not out there. Skies of Arcadia (one of the best RPGs ever made, and Legends isn't a sequel, it's a port), Legend of Dragoon, and Primal are all fairly non-recent games that come to mind.
Edit You're right. It has a sequel on DC, but I somehow hadn't heard of it. I'd check it out if I still owned a Dreamcast. This post has been edited by laszlow on 17th October 2005 17:06 -------------------- |

Jet Force Gemini, Adventure and Bahamut Lagoon, to name three awesome yet perpetually forgotten games/"series". I somehow wanna think that Asteroids was remade (not that it needs to be) or that some "upgraded" knock-off was released, but I'm far too lazy to conjure up the effort and actually confirm that or not right now.
Edit Eh, I looked anyway. As I thought, Asteroids has been re-released and remade numerous times, from the classic arcade and Atari to the PSX, and 'bout a dozen systems in between. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Shadow of Destiny doesn't have a sequel, and that's too bad. I thought it was a terrific game, and I've always been hoping that Konami would follow it up with something similar.

Unique games that have nothing to do with anything else. As for final fantasy, the games may not connect with one another but there still a series. Understand?. P.s. sorry about the topic name it may have been confusing. -------------------- "You know that feeling you get when you're on a merry go 'round, and you want to jump off to make the spinning stop, but you know it'll suck when you land? An old Sega Genesis game, about a magic-user, I've never seen a sequel to. Mystic Defender I think is the name for it. That and Unholy War (PSX) are the only games I know of w/out sequels.

OK then, maybe I was wrong based on your guidelines. But how about these? Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Day Dreamin' Davey (one of the worst games ever), Psychonauts, Sigma Star Saga, Meteos, Lumines, God of War, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and Secret of Evermore. That's ten just off the top of my head.

North and South doesn't have a sequel IIRC. I think Illusion of Gaia doesn't have one either.

Live-A-Live was a great, unique game, had no sequal or remake.

Snowman: LoD and Primal have never had a remake or sequel, and SoA (again, one of my favorite RPGs) only has a gamecube port.

Quote (Snowman @ 21st October 2005 08:45) I cant think of any at the moment, but do any of you think sequels spoil the charm of the original? Only occasionally. If the sequel is good, there's no harm done. If the sequel is bad, that doesn't usually ruin the experience of playing the original. Every once in a while, though, the sequel is so bad that you can't play the original without remembering it. For me, Final Fantasy X-2 is one such example. Before playing that game, I liked Yuna. Rikku topped my list of "spunky gamine" FF heroines. After playing it, however, I find that I can't go through FFX without shuddering at the thought of their future "YRP" phase. It makes the ending less sad, too. Possible spoilers: highlight to view Not because you can get Tidus back with a perfect FFX-2 game. Oh, no. It makes it less sad because you know that Tidus won't be around to witness the transformation of a noble summoner into a brainless gunslinger in hotpants. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Lol, I see what you mean but I just take every game as a new one really. The one before then becomes the background history stuff which leads up to the new one. Oh! I just thought of sequels that are unrelated storywise. The Time Crisis games dont share the same story or characters, although one of the bad guys appears in each one as the enemy of the company all the good guys work for.

Well done very good everyone. It seems there are more games like that than i thought. I'm finding your reply's very amusing. Unless i'm mistaken in total there is 27 games so far. Sorry karasuman but i can't say i care about what happend to the girls in FFX-2.

Hey Laszlow. Day of the Tentacle (you mentioned in a previous post) is kind of a sequel to Maniac Mansion, an OLD game about a group of teens who get trapped in a mad scientist's mansion while trying to rescue a guy's girlfriend. I know it from Commadore 64, though some might have played it on 8-bit Nintendo. So yeah, doesn't count.
![]() Speaking of Commadore... there was a game called Fairlight: a Prelude that I don't think had a sequel. Just an over ambitious title I suppose. -------------------- Quote Do you think we're forever? |

Madmangunner, you said Kirby's dream course (YAY!!! Kirby!) but aren't all of the Kirby games unrelated in a sense, you know like he saves the world, but next time no mention of his last victory really. So i don't know now...
