NaNoWriMo stands for National November Writing Month. People who enter it aim to write a short novel of 50,000 in the space of one month, which can either turn into a first draft, or you can continue it outside of the month (or write more within the month). It's a very good way to train yourself to write every day, even if you don't end up with gold by the end of the month.

I know we have a few writers here, is anyone interested?

I am. Especially when we consider my college course (HNC Professional Writing Skills) would probaby classify this as revision... Dunno how well I could do but meh, they allow outlines and plot notes. Oh, and more importantly, non-americans.

I've signed up for it the past two years, but I'm sitting this one out -- I'm still restoring lost vocabulary to my brain after using it all up this summer (wrote 42,000). I never managed to get much past 6K in NNWM anyways.

Good luck to all those goin' for it, though!

I might just use this as motivation to start writing, weather not I stick to these certain rules is irrelevent, just to get me writing, y'know? smile.gif

Eh...a fifty-thousand word novel of sorts seems like something I could definately reach, but my stamina comes in 2-3k spurts, so I'm afraid it would take me a decade or more to complete. sad.gif Still, it's not so daunting if one is to divide the month up into daily quotas and all that...I may give it a shot (and hopefully not be the only one?) yet.

I'm confused....

Is this for extra credit or something? Why would you do writing that teacher didn't assign? My head hurts....

Simple. Four standard reasons: Fun, to get a message across, for money, or for the hell of it. This is one and four, maybe three, but probably just one and four. The fifth reason which is pretty much applicable here by default is practice.

Of course, that may not be your cup of tea, what with doing writing in school and seemingly not enjoying it, but schoolwork has restraints. Even with restraints, I enjoyed it somewhat. You may not think it's your thing, but you could give it a whack. It can't hurt you. It can't hurt me either as my college course IS writing.

So, it's not for extra credit, but it could help your writing skills out a little.

Bladdy kids.

The Ancient, if that was tongue-in-cheek, we couldn't see it through the web of the internets. Some people write as a hobby, just like playing video games.

I love writing but as of now I am into columns. I don't think I am ready to write a very long fiction.
