Firstoff I enjoy the entire Final Fantasy series. I haven't played a FF game that I disliked, though some characters are a different story. In order, I have played:
FFVIII (finished a number of times) FFIX (finished a number of times) FFT (finished a number of times) FFI&II (FFOrigins) (haven't finished either I nor II) FFX (have yet to finish) FFVII (finished once) I am a big fan of "old-school" gaming as well as games with a medieval setting. I also, thoroughly, enjoy futuristic games as well, it all depends on characterization and gameplay for me. As far as FF goes, FFVIII and FFT are my favorite games of the series and I can't really pick a least favorite game. I may have more faves or non-faves as I play more games in the series, but that's how it stands right now. -------------------- "Thought I was dead, eh? Not until I fulfill my dream!" It honestly depends on several factors. Some games appeal to certian personalities, genders and ages more than others. While everyone raves about VII, it's very far down on my list of favorites. Out of all the PSX-PS2 era FF games, VII is the one I enjoyed the least. There just wasn't much in that game that appealed to me and the things I like as far as characters and storytelling goes. This is my list, and I'll explain a bit about each one.
Favorites out of the entire series that I've played: X VI IX VIII X-2 VII IV V It's very hard for me to choose between IX and VIII, there's so much that I loved about both of them, so they tie for third place. I'm obviously drawn to intricate plotlines that require you to think, understand the storyline and draw from small details given. I don't like everything handed to me, because I really enjoy thinking for myself. While people couldn't understand a darn thing about VIII's ending, I drew a LOT from it, and it just seemed that much better. I'm especially drawn to romance and fairytale-like stories. This is probably why X, VI and IX are my absolute favorites. Though I loved the romance in VIII as well. Music plays a big part for me too, if the game has lots of songs I can sing along with or hum in the car while driving then more power to it! I don't like lots of dark, dreary, depressing, emo bleeeh kind of stuff in large portions. That's probably why VII didn't do much for me at all. It did have it's moments, but it just isn't one of my favorites. =/ I kind of noticed it's a trend for angsting teenagers to rave about how awsome VII is. Heh.
