There's no forum because there's no info. There's no info because there's already a lot being done. The FF7 section only came out about Feburary time or somewhere close. if you wanna play all the versions, go and buy them.
Edit Why in FF1 section? This post has been edited by footbigmike on 12th October 2005 19:29 |

Suggestion: Skip II, unless you're a hardcore "play-everything" person. I played it, because I am that type of person, and I really wish I haden't. FFIIIj, however, is a gem.

I think he's trying to talk about the mistakened FF #s for the SNES.
If that's the case, then.. Final Fantasy II (With Firion), Final Fantasy III (With OnionKids), and Final Fantasy V (With the dragons, pirates, Boco, etc.) never made it to the U.S. because the americans were screwed up pretty good.. Three Final Fantasies made it to the U.S. The original Final Fantasy 1, Final Fantasy 4 (Labeled Final Fantasy 2), and Final Fantasy 6 (Labeled Final Fantasy 3). I heard that Final Fantasy 5 (In japan) was going to be released as Final Fantasy 4 in the U.S., but they suddenly started working with Final Fantasy 7, and labeled it correctly as the way Japan did. So, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 6 were empty... Square realised their mistakes and re-released Final Fantasy 6 (The FFIIIUS) and the never-before released Final Fantasy 5 to the Final Fantasy Anthology. Then, they re-released the Final Fantasy 4 (Final Fantasy IIUS) and Chrono Trigger in FF Chronicles. But we still had to figure out what FF games FF2 and FF3 were, so, Square worked on FF1's remake and released it with the REAL Final fantasy 2 in FF Origins. We STILL didn't get Final Fantasy 3 yet. Square this year FINALLY announced the remake of Final Fantasy 3 in the Nintendo DS and expected a release date either this year or next (forgot). So, the mysteries of the US Final Fantasy Classic's F***ed up numbers has finally revealed itself... Hope that helped. Atleast that's what I heard other sites say. |

most likely because by the time final fantasy was a huge success in us(which was about 90'), square in japan was already focusing on the new super nes. having already made ff4 in 91'(i think...), they didnt think giving us two more ffs for the nes would be a good idea, as the nes's popularity was fading. so, they released ff4 as "ff2" so as not to confuse people... at least, that would explain everything. (also, later, ff6 was released and renamed "ff3")

Quote (dont chocobos rule? @ 12th October 2005 21:04) if VI is the same as III...where are the onion knights...or is this just too complicated wait nvm....im confused....why didn't they just make them regular numbers with all and gave us all of them? They aren't the same. FFVI and FFIII are two completely different games. It was Nintendo of America who labeled Final Fantasy IV and VI "II" and "III" when they came out here 'cause, at the time, those were the second and third FF's released in North America. They didn't want people to be confused over the gap between numbers (i.e, FFI followed by IV, followed by VI), so they altered the titles to avoid that. None of this was a "mistake" made by Square - fact is they had little, if anything, to do with it. When Square left Nintendo for Sony, the parent company didn't enforce that rule, so the games were free to retain their correct numbers. Hence the reason why when FF's IV and VI were re-released on the PlayStation, their titles were correctly labeled. The Final Fantasy series was not the only one to deal with this kinda 'wrong name' treatment; the Seiken Densetsu series as well as the early installments to the SaGa series also endured changes in titles for both similar and different reasons. So did other non-Square games/series, like EarthBound (Mother II). As already stated, during the NES and SNES eras in North America, Final Fantasy II, III and V were not released outside Japan. Final Fantasy II WAS originally going to be translated and launched here a few years after its initial Japanese release, but by that time FFIV was already out, causing localization to change their minds and opt to translate and release it instead. 'Cause of that, FFII's and III's domestic releases were skipped over. FFV, too, was planned to make it to North American shores earlier than it actually did, being released after FFVI under the name "Final Fantasy Extreme" (again, so as not to confuse North Americans who did not know at the time they had missed out on some of the games, as well as the fact that the games they HAD received, with the exception of FFI, were under incorrect titles). As it turns out, all NOA's name changing ultimately served was confusion for many non-Japanese gamers, contrary to what they intended, which continues even to this day. FFII and V, as we all know, were finally brought over after being ported (and in II's case, remade) to the PSX years later, but FFIII has yet to see a domestic release. That, however, will be remedied sometime early next year. Also, I would highly recommend playing FFII, myself. Many people are much too impatient to get very far into it, and thus end up disliking it. Which is fine; not every game is for everyone, but it and FFIII are no doubt my favorite NES FF's. Gaining stats can become tedious after a while, but if you focus more on the game and story - and only a wee bit on battles and stats - it tends to go by quick and easily. Just be sure to often rotate battle actions corresponding to whatever stats you put the most stock in (i.e, fight several battles with a specific character(s) only casting spells, then switch to several battles with that character(s) just physically attacking, then several battles with that character(s) defending and receiving damage, etc.). Doing that rather than attempting to gain a buncha different stats at once tends to ease frustration. Least it works for me. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. - Murphy’s Law Boing! Edit w00t!!!!100th post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Final Fantasy 6 in the US was released as Final Fantasy 3 in the US because of the skipping. By the way, Final Fantasy 6 DOES have Onion Kids. Except it's on the remake version of the FF Anthology. You can see a red Onion Kid at the Start Game screen (You might wanna reset it to finally see him) walking around, flipping you off, laughing, shocked, sleeping, and crouching to see your crotch (sorry i was just kidding, lol |
