Who is your favorite Avenger?
My personal favorite is Hawkeye. He was the first "normal" Avenger. Iron man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, they all seemed too god-like. Hawkeye was just a (relativly) normal guy who, eventaly, became the leader of a team well known for its godly inhabitants. For that, he is my favorite.

The Avengers is sort of a second-rate super hero group, but I have fond memories wasting quarters on The Avengers' Arcade Game, which was a lot of fun. Makes me wish Arcades were still popular, I always enjoyed them over console gaming.

Anyway, I was down with Hawkeye, but I will always have a softspot for Vision. I'm not sure why, Hawkeye was just appealing to me. Vision, although he had a weak backstory, was cool to my 8 year old mind so he sticks in my memory as well.

I'm not particularly fond of The Avengers, especially in light of better super-teams like the X-Men and DC's Justice League. All the same, their ranks have included some likeable personalities throughout the years. My vote goes with Spider-man, seeing as he's now a member of the New Avengers. If I have to choose from the classic set-up, I guess I'll say Ant-Man for the comedic value.

Incidentally, I think Hawkeye is pretty stupid, if only because I'm fundamentally opposed to the whole concept of bow-and-arrow crimefighters. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I too feel that the Avengers were less than adequate.

However, I do remember who my fav. character in the Avengers game was, and that in turn has become my fav. Avenger in general....

I'm almost reluctant to say that I used to be a huge Avengers fan, comic wise. I never truly felt those platform beat 'em up games did them any justice. As for my favorite Avenger? Tony Freakin' Stark. Iron Man. I always saw him as the Batman of the Marvel Universe, without the morbid. He had awesome weapons and gadgets and literally a different gizmo or suit add-on every freakin' time. He was great. Not to mention that story line where evil alcoholic tony stark and the normal time-line one battle it out, or when his suit became so advanced that it assumed sentient life and tried to kill him, that was awesome. Yeah.

My least favorite Avenger has always been Captain America. God. I never could stand those heroes with an unbending sense of justice, right and wrong, and the great big golden heart. He just annoys me with his dedication to righteousness, not to mention he throws around a freakin' shield. Come on! Super humans SO could get better weapons than that.

Never was much an Avengers fan. But then they launched The Ultimates. Great storytelling there. Especially with the latest "season" and the uncertainty of Thor really being a God of Asgard. Could he just be a nutjob with electronic gear providing his powers?

I really, really hope for Marvel's sake that they don't ruin Thor with some gimmick like that. His solo series are probably one of my favorites, next to Wolverine and Spider-man's many run-offs.

Anyways, if they end up throwing Thor into that category of nut job with some technology giving him his powers, I'd stop reading Ultimates. I'm probably one of the few people who can't stand those new series. Ultimate Spider-man? Oh come on. They already ruined Venom, Carnage and the Green Goblin, what's next? Ultimate Fantastic Four is just wrong. Wrong. Ultimate Avengers? Well, I prefer the oldschool. They masacred Ultros, probably one of the most badass villans next to Venom and The Red Skull.

Ultimates v.s. Oldschool? The original destroys them.

I like the Ultimates, to an extent. There are a few reinventions of characters in the Marvel Ultimate universe that I don't particularly like, but the quality of the writing and characterization tends to overshadow my misgivings. I think it's a good thing overall.

Current Ultimates vs. Current Avengers? The Avengers would mop the floor with them. Though the most recent incarnation of The Avengers is something of a mixed bag, with a combination of really big names (Spider-Man, Cap, Iron Man, Wolverine) and total nobodies (Spider-Woman, Luke Cage), the mere addition of Sentry tips the scales in their favor against anybody this side of the Justice League. Sentry as a character has powers so vaguely defined that he can literally do anything at this point, pushing him up to a level of absurdity typically reserved for X-Men villains.

Of course the original would beat the ultimates. The original team has a thunder god that is a Thunder god, and the original giant-man didn't lose his mind this early in his career.

Actually, he did. He took on the persona of Yellow Jacket and beat his wife in a fit of madness, then, in an attempt to cover it up, switched his personality yet again. He kept going through alternate aliases until eventually, he was running alongside Ultros, his big bad nightmare creation. Of course, then he gained his sanity back and all that.

Still, it was something they've done before. Wonderman faced similar problems, Tony Stark went through alcoholism, hell, Thor took over the freakin' world and plunged us all into a utopian hell. The Avengers story arcs over the last two years have been utterly ridiculous. Marvel needs to get some damn better writters putting their stuff down.

I'm just saying that Ultimate Giant-man went all wife-beating much more early in his career than normal Giant-man. Oh yea, its spelled Ultron, not Ultros
