what games do you guys think is the best game ever!!!!
simple enough all i want to know is the game and a credible reason for why you like it.

i personally think as of taday that my favorite game whould have to be the THE SUFFERING TIES THAT BIND!!!!

for all of you out there my reason is because they made a game that was pretty freaky easy controls difficult and something that has ok graphics.....

FOR ALL YOU PARENTS OUT THERE KEEP YOU KIDS AWAY FROM THIS FREAKY GAME THEY WILL HAVE NIGHTMARES...

the enemies design is freaking awesome it has enemies with swords for hands and feet and demon dogs and so much more this is perfect for the ADULT that wants to be scared...

I think FFV is the best game ever!!!!

Because the plot, music, gameplay, system, fun factor, graphics, and characters are really incredible. The only ff game that beat FFV in terms of characters and graphics would be FFVI.

It is almost impossible for me to say one game, leaving others out, but I'll try my best:

Phantasy Star II (Sega Genesis): Gets first consideration 'cause I had Phantasy Star for the Master System, but never saw it again after "borrowing" it to one of my dad's friends. 1989 came around (I was in Kindergarten) and I've been playing the game for years and havin' fun! Nowadays I may play a little bit every once in a while just for shits and grins, and if my game could be saved (the cartridge erases all saved games once you press the power button) I'd probably play it more, I ain't cryin'.

Final Fantasy VIII and Tactics are my favorite games in the FF series that I am a big fan of.

It's hard to say but one of those three I would say are my favorite games and what I would call, the best, but maybe out of a biased opinion. An RPG definately deserves the nod for best game, however.

My current judgement:

Super Mario RPG.

Why? It doesn't win Best SNES Game Ever or Best RPG Ever.

Because it's so enjoyable to play, and so simple (and therefore easily appreciated), and so much fun, that I've actually played it at least 4 times through without getting bored of it.

I've only gotten part-way through replaying Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII (which I never finished in the first place), Pokemon RBY, Pokemon GSC (which, again, I never finished in the first place), Duck Tales, .... The only game I've recently fully replayed was Felix the Cat (NES). That game's also a lot of fun.

Honorable mentions include: Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario Kart, Mega Man 6, Felix the Cat, the 1st- and 2nd-generation Pokemon games (RBY and GSC), Super Mario Bros. 3, and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance.

Edit
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
The string of question marks makes me suspicious.

I'm not sure that you could really call it the best game ever but one of my favorite games of all time would be Suikoden III. One of the major selling points in this game to me was the anime intro and the song that they play. The rest of it, well, I'm not sure I can really say why I like it. I tend to be drawn to things, people, music, without really knowing why.

I love ffVI, but for the best game ever I choose star ocean, the second story. Great battle system, innovative game play, and amazing charaters makes this the best in my book.

Hmmm. Metal Gear Solid is definetely up there for me. It combines a brilliant way to play a game with an awesome storyline.

Ocarina Of Time. Need i say more? Well, most of the Zelda series was awesome. Notice: Most of.

Final Fantasy Series. See Zelda Series.

Finally: Goldeneye. Quite possibly the best FPS EVER!

laszlow's favorite games all time?

RPG: Chrono Trigger (SNES) and Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast)

Action: Mega Man X (SNES) and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (PS2)

Fighting: Soul Calibur (Dreamcast) and Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PS1)

Strategy: Civilization II (PC) and Final Fantasy Tactics

Handheld: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA), Fire Emblem: Rekka No Ken (GBA), and Tetris (GB)

Oldschool: Mega Man 3 (NES), Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES), Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES)

Import: Tales of Phantasia (SNES), Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (TurboGrafx), and Seiken Densetsu III (SNES)

laszlow's favorite game ever: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1)

If you consider yourself a fan of 2D action games or "castlemet" games, then you absolutely need to play SotN. Never has a game been such a great combination of solid gameplay and mechanics, beautiful audio, visuals, and atmosphere, and interesting characters and story, IMHO. If you like video games, you are doing yourself a disservice if you haven't played the crown jewel of the excellent Castlevania series.

Edit
I added an Oldschool section for kicks. Note laszlow's "NES rule of three"

Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike (ARC)
Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Mega Man 2 and 3 (NES)
Harvest Moon 64 (N64)
Counter-Strike (PC)
Neverwinter Nights (PC)
Metal Gear Solid (PS)

Hope I'm not forgetting anything.

I also need a list, also without any order:

Final Fantasy I thru IX, and both Tactics games
(Tidus and ff version of charlie's angels ruined it for me.)
Star Ocean series
Legend of Dragoon
Chrono Chross
Dead or Alive Ultimate & X
Fable
Devil May Cry I and III
Halo I and II
Way of the Samurai
Dynasty Warriors III, IV, & PSP
Baldur's Gate DA
Super Smash Bros. Melee
.Hack// series
Dragon Warrior III
Grandia II
and, last but truly not least:
Tetris (Gameboy), which ive logged the most hours on

At the bottom of my list of games, from best to worst, would be the Fatal Frame series. No offense meant, very well done, but it scares me sh**less, which i hate. Its the only game that gives me nightmares

The top five games ever according to me are...

5.) The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
4.) Resident Evil 4
3.) Metroid Prime
2.) Final Fantasy Tactics

and...

1.) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

LttP is simple the best game ever made. It pushed the SNES to its absolute limit. The game features the best of everything. It had great music, graphics, and gameplay. Zelda is the best franchise ever, and LttP is the reason why, initially. OoT is a crowd favorite, but LttP is better in every way.

LttP made me a gamer. I've had it for over 13 years now. I've played it since I was a very young child. I've beaten it well over 100 times, no joke. It never gets old, and it never loses its touch. It has the best story, themes, and feel to it of any game ever made. FFT, even, can't stack up here. Mr. Miyamoto crafted a true masterpiece with that one.

LttP is the only flawless game to this day. Not ONE other game has even come close. I eagerly await the day when one even comes close. I know that if one ever does, it'll be from Nintendo.

That's all, folks.

Wow, lol, ye take every opportunity to exclaim your fandom of this game, don't ye. Although, I believe there's a reason why I'm in the middle of playing it right now wink.gif .

So far, however (like most everyone else, in no particular order):

FFT, FFVI, Baldur's Gate II (and its expansion), Tetris, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (and its expansions), Diablo II (again, its expansion, too), Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Secret of Mana, A Link to the Past (rather popular here, too, apparently), and FF IX.

Of course, I have a whole line of games to try, or, as is the case with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, to finish, so this list is bound to change sooner or later.

Karasuman's favourite game ever, too, for all of the above reasons, plus a great item inventory. happy.gif I can't help it. I love items.

My other favourite games are Final Fantasy IV, Suikoden II, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, and Katamari Damacy.

Final Fantasy IV has my favourite plot and characters of any RPG to date. A gaming magazine (book?) I read years ago described it as a giant onion--there are always more layers underneath wherever you are in the plot. I also like the class system.

Suikoden II is simply beautiful. The story revolves around three main characters, but the side stories involving some of the other 108 recruitable characters are also lots of fun. The cooking contest, the battle system, the depth of the story, and the most beautiful opening sequence I've ever seen are just bonuses.

Lunar: SSSC is really cute. The battle system isn't something I really like, but the story is great, the music is pretty, and the anime cut scenes are amazing. The best thing about it is the hilarious retranslation by the Working Designs team, though.

Katamari Damacy is insane. If you haven't played it yet, you're just going to have to, or you won't believe me, anyway.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Sure, Soul Reaver 2 had superior graphics, but the original Raziel game just blew me away. I loved the music.

Sure, FF VI, but that's more of a nicotine addiction to me. It's not really satisfying, more of a necessity.

In order to avoid endless blabblin', I'll list my favorite games across three different genres:

- Final Fantasy VI - I love the story, the characters, and the music most of all. The battle system isn't the best, though none of them are with the exception of Tactics, in my opinion. No matter how many times I play it, I never get burnt out. It takes something special to pull that off.
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (I don't count it as an RPG) - By far my favorite Zelda title. Since I already hold the series in very high regard, that's more than enough to justify it being 'the best.'
- Super Metroid - I recently replayed it. I'd forgotten how much I loved it before its cart was tragically busted back in the day. I'm actually not the biggest fan of the Metroid series, but this game is just all-'round enjoyable. As far as action games go, it's gotta be one of, if not THE best.

True - they do just so happen to all be SNES games, coincidentally enough. Honorable mentions would go to, in no order: Final Fantasy IV & IX, EarthBound, Harvest Moon (first one), Katamari Damacy (both), Tales of Phantasia, Resident Evil 1 & 4, Bahamut Lagoon, Wild ARMs 1, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man.

Of course, there're many more I could list, although some wouldn't exactly qualify as "favorites", per se. For example, there's Adventure (an Atari 2600 game I often bring up in these kinda topics). It was my first video game and, even to this day, I'm still quite attached to it. There're plenty of much better games out there, and that's pretty much a given when bringing up a game from 1980, but sorta like Djibriel stated before, it's one of those instances where this game's more an addictive necessity than anything else. Both Space Invaders and The Adventures of Lolo would also fit into this category.

Absentmindedly forgot to add explanations...

In terms of the greatest effect/schock/surprise, I have to say that no game comes close to the original Silent Hill experience. Its sequel pales in comparison in regards to the fear generated by the shady graphics, unusual camera placement, incredible sounds effects and great music. Even the scenario is very interesting for a survival horror. I have yet to compare the game to the third and fourth opus, so I don't know how it'll play, but I can safely say that no game has ever freaked the hell out of me as SH did (I'mnot a big fan of the Resident Evil series, but I played some and didn't find them as frightening).

I'd fail in creating a definitive list of my favourite games, as my favourites tend to change over time (I'm an old-timer after all happy.gif) and consoles, but these are definite favourites, that I either can't forget or replay very often.

FFT. I almost always have a game running for this one.

FF6. Need I say more?

Tetris. If this game isn't on your list, then it's probably because you forgot to put it there...

Super Mario World. My favourite of the Mario serie.

Zelda. The original of course (probably the game that pulled me towards fantasy and RPGs...). The SNES sequel A Link to the Past is good on my list too, for its longevity and funness (if that's even a word).

Super Metroid. For some reason, I oftenly find myself borrowing this game from one of my best friends and unhearthing the SNES to play this one. Oddly enough, I almost always borrow Cybernator at the same time (great action game).

Civilization II. I see it already has been cited by Las, good call mate. I almost always have a game running for this one too.

Parasite Eve. I know of some other staff member who's very found of it (you can find who it is, just search the site. Whoever PMs me first with his or her name gets a french mini-muffin), he/she probably loves it for the same reasons as I do: an action-packed game with great music, cinematics, and very nice gameplay.

Here, that's a good list. There are other games that I enjoy, but these are definitely among my favourites.

I have no trouble narrowing my favorite game down to FFT, but inspired romps like Tales of Phantasia, Wild ARMs 3, Legend of Dragoon, Earthbound and Chrono Cross are in close contention as well.

I have the first Baldur's Gate and was having a great time until the game suddenly just...stopped after the third chapter. It was a crappy plot, to me, because now I have to buy the second game to find out what happened. My poor dwarf was in tears. tongue.gif

The second was indeed awesome, though, and if I ever find the game again, I'll shell out the dough for such a fun multiplayer game.
