Can't say I really imagined Butz having that type of semi-spiked hair. The overall look of Butz is good, with that kinda anime-ish thing going on. Colouring on his is off in a few places. Since the directional lighting appears to be coming from his left side, the shadow where his nose is, is incorrect. His eyebrows are kinda weird, being where his eyelids normally would be. Even if you're really scowling they wouldn't be that low on the face. Butz is also suffering from an odd neck. It starts out thick and gets thinner as it goes down (look where it's attaching to the base of the skull). This can easily be remedied by either 1) making the overall neck thicker or 2) adjusting that part at the top.
A good basic MS-Paint style drawing, but it could be improved on. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." "You're a total knee biter." |

Heh, Kame's at it again.
Normally, I woudn't push me own artistic sensibilities on someone else's art style, but she does have a point about Bartz/Butz's (for the purpose of this post, I'll jest say Bartz) nose shadow and the neck. Nothing a couple of quick fixes can't cure, of course. Put the shadow on the other side of the nose and, perhaps, straighten out the line on the back of the neck and ye got yourself a Bartz who doesn't defy the laws of physics ![]() I actually don't have a problem with the eyebrows. Not only is Bartz scowling, but his head is tilted downward (that's the impression I got, anyway). Given that situation, real life eyebrows do appear to meet the eyes. However, as Kame pointed out, your Bartz's eyebrows have gone beyond what would happen in real life, but that criticism is strictly subjective. If those sorts of eyebrows fit your personal style, then far be it for us to say you're wrong. I also have to give ye credit for attempting any sort of art on a computer. For me, there jest isn't enough control in a mouse or any other applicable piece of hardware to satisfy me need for precision. Gotta have a mech pencil in me hand, ye know? It's been fixed. Nose, shading, colors, neck, eyebrows, you NAME IT. Yes, I've been working a bit with Faris and Reina

Well, I agree about Bartz not supposed to have spikey hair, but there isn't anything keeping you from putting your own spin on a character.
Other than that I think you did a decent job. Some nice soft shading and good job on the face. The clothes aren't as good but they aren't really the focus. Something I noticed. You seem to have the reflections in his eyes on opposite sides. I'm pretty sure the light reflection should on the same side for both eyes. For example the reflection would be on the left side of both of Bartz's eyes. -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

Rather nice interpretation.
I personally don't picture Bartz as having spiky hair (more disheveled and in bundles but not spiky), but that's an interpretation point. The only real think I can find 'wrong' with your picture is that the shading doesn't seem quite right on his shirt. I can't say what's wrong with it, but I feel that something wasn't quite done too well there. Other than that, I like this picture. Great job. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse!
