When the new mods were introduced, I became jealous...jealous of the new powers and privileges they now possess, like the option to come up with their own title/rank (that is the case, yes?). I suppose they have new responsibilities, too, but anyhoo...

Me current job doesn't provide a lot of mental stimulation and, during one of me usual trains of thought last night, I thought to meself "If I became a new CoN staffer, what would be me new title/rank?" I came up with a few so far:

"Smarter than Your Average Goomba"
"Your Friendly, Neighborhood Goomba"
"Goomba Pot Pie"
"So I'm a Goomba! Ye Got a Problem with That!?"

Uhhh...

"Goomba in a Jar" ...mmm, maybe not, heh.

I suppose I may never get to use any of these on an official basis, but the thought kept me occupied. Anybody else ever thought about this? If so, what ideas did ye come up with?

Being a mod isn't that big of a deal.... certainly something not worth lusting over. I'm happy for the guys and gals that Josh has chosen to share the responsibilities of this site with, but honestly... for me personally, anyways... it would be more trouble than it was worth.

Not that I'll ever get an offer for the position, mind you.

You guys do realize that being a mod actually means doing work right? It's not just having power over the forums and being able to do what you'd like. You still have the admins to answer to, and by default, you still have to follow the same rules yourself as an example. You'd have tedious tasks like reading through thread after thread and make sure that us regular peons are following the rules, not to mention the annoying posts asking what the next mystery rank will be or OMG CAN I HAVE A CUSTOM AVATAR TOO!?!

It's something I respect the guys who do it for doing, because it's still a job that comes with responsibilities. It's not a "do-whatever-the-hell-you-want" pass for the forums.

Being a mod is certainly not all peaches and cream if you know what I mean. I've had to deal with plenty of issues that I would rather have avoided on the boards that I do mod/admin at. The staff here certainly deserves praise for their continued hard work.

That's a good one, too, but I think that might insult those who aren't capable of using pronouns properly...or, perhaps, those who CHOOSE not to use pronouns (or any proper English, for that matter) properly? Heh, it was just, er...I mean, t'was jest a thought.

Yeah, being a mod' isn't that amazing, trust me. It has as many Pros, as it has Cons. And if you don't want to constantly hang out at a forum, it's not worth having the powers and responsibilities in my opinion.

I probably hang out at these forums quite enough most of the time to qualify on 'hanging around enough', although I'll admit that I don't have in-depth knowledge of any one of these games (even FFVI, a lot about which I've learned just from these forums and the accompanying info-base).

As a manager of something, I personally prefer to be the kind of person who's reasonably nice. I don't like it when I'm a newbie and all these 1337 arseholes basically make fun of my inexperience by throwing around a bunch of 'over my head' inside jokes in front of me. Granted, that has never happened at CoN (except possibly at chat, but as SSJ_Cloud says, we're all socially inept people anyways, to have to end up here in the first place). I like how the mods are reasonable at their dealing with the mistakes of neophytes (the word means "newbies"; I just like big words; so what), with a very good balance between being nice enough to explain how things work around here while 'rewarding' bad behavior with a suitable degree of punishment and ridicule.

As a mod, my avatar would probably be one of the following (and probably cycle through them)
+custom Barret Wallace pose
+custom Glenn (Chrono Trigger) sprite
+custom Frog sprite
+custom Glenn Magus Harvey sprite
+custom Strago sprite
+some picture of Seraph. I don't really know why, but I identify with the character in a sense that I created after creating my own continuation of its story.
+some mysterious picture of Ridley (from the Metroid series)
+a buddy icon of Ritz from FFTA
+some other typical board avatars

One more thing: I feel like advocating topic title reform. I see these threads that are titled things like "What is this?" or "What do you think" or "iz tis a good idea" that actually contain good threads, with well-defined topics and on-topic posts. Sometimes, a thread called, say, "Setzer" will appear that only really talks about his Fixed Dice weapon. I'm not sure how much the mods would agree with me on this, but occasionally, I'd like to change the thread title so that it reflects the topic, to things like "Opinions about my mastered classes" or "Should I save [character]?" or "How does Slot work?".

And on April Fool's Day, I might just put up a Simon Belmont sprite as my avatar and title myself "Vampire Killer".

Also, if I ever feel tired of encountering a bunch of FFVII fan-idiots, I'll invert CoN's picture of Sephy and use that as my avatar. Title will probably be "Not a Sephy Fan".

I'm jest glad people are seemingly starting to see this thread for what I intended it to be: harmless fun. Judging by some of the first several posts, I thought people were jest going to keep criticizing me for disrespecting the mods or making light of their achievements and hard work (which I fully acknowledge, by the way).

Still, even if I can't use any of me ideas as a custom title, I've decided to do the next best thing!

Well, I'm a mod now, and I have no clue what I'm gonna be doing about the avatar and the title. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep the Golbez avatar because it just seems to fit. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on the site who uses it. As for the title, well, I still haven't a clue. I'll think something up sooner or later, I'm sure; maybe once I find an avatar I really want to change to, but right now both stay.
