Wha? No one else is excited about the idea of old classic games being reworked for online play? That would attract so many older gamers to the Revolution and would give older gamers something to be really excited about regarding these new consoles. After all, it goes right along with Nintendo's graphics arn't everything philosophy. Don't tell me you wouldn't absolutely love an eight player Mario Kart race online. Well, they could just make a new Mario Kart for that, like the one for the DS. But the SNES classic has the best gameplay.
![]() SNES F-Zero online would be insanely fun. The game is FAST yet basic enough to avoid being overwhelming, unlike the 3D F-Zero games. How about some good old SNES Mortal Kombat? ![]() -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

It would be nice, but it's insanely hard for Nintnedo to do that. It's not a very good marketing strategy. They would have to go in and remake all those games with online play, and becuase they're different games than the original, they would cost more to download. Regardless, I HIGHLY doubt that will happen.
I wouldn't mind playin Mario Kart with people all over teh world, though. ![]() -------------------- "Dance, water, dance!" -Demyx, Kingdom Hearts II "I met my love before I was born..." -AFI, 'Love Like Winter' from 'Decemberunderground' Currently Playing: Guitar Hero, Shadow of the Colossus |

Bad news for you folks in Europe. Revolution isn't releasing there until early 2007. They announced that they would be following the DS strategy, first realease in U.S., shortly after in Japan, then months later in Europe.

In previous posts I've stated again and again that the Revolution will be the best next-gen console. Let's focus on hardware, shall we? As far as design goes, the Revolution is clearly the most eye-catching. The sleek, minimalist design won't be taking up floor or shelf space and neither will it be a hassle to transport, as opposed to the XBox 360 (here's a fun fact: at the unveiling the model actually had difficulty picking up the 360 to show it off) or the bulky PS3, which from the side looks awfully similar to a computer scanner. As far as specs goes, the Revolution won't be as powerful as the PS3, but will have more going for it than the supposedly "tripped-out" XBox 360. As far as games go, I think we can expect Nintendo to deliver its usual hot titles flawlessly (Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc.) while there shouldn't be any end to third-party support, considering that the system should be easier to design for than the other two competitors. Of course, there's the added bonus of downloading games from the NES, SNES, and 64 on *FREE* WiFi. Whether or not the games will be free to download is anyone's guess, but I think the fact that it's debatable would indicate that if there is a cost, it would be small (say, $5 tops). As far as controllers go, we don't know what Nintendo will unveil, and as Shinj stated I think that the controller will constitute the "Revolution" concept. We DO know what XBox 360 has in store - essentially a white XBox controller with a raised D-Pad and a couple moved buttons - and the PS3 controller...well, I can't describe how awfully difficult to control it looks. See for yourself: http://media.ps3.ign.com/articles/614/6146...mg_2786282.html
I think Nintendo's got the right idea, we'll just have to sit tight and see what their controller looks like. -------------------- SPEKKIO: "GRRR...That was most embarrassing!" |

That PS3 controller looks an awful lot like one of the 3rd-party PS2 controllers I have, which I've only used once or twice due to the discomfort and awkwardness. Since it appears to have the same button set-up as the PS1 and PS2 controllers, why can't they just keep it traditional? Or are they just trying to make it look "cool" or something?
Anyways, ON-topic: I believe Nintendo will come up with a design for the Revolution's controller that'll far surpass Microsoft's and Sony's new - but sorta uninspired - creations in that department. Nintendo, with the exception of the NES' controller (yeah, you know you got bad creases from that thing after playing for a while), has always made playing games as comfortable and hassle-free as possible. The SNES' controller is my personal favorite, the N64's doubled-up on how to even hold the thing, giving you the option to switch grips if your hands got tired, and the GC's really does fit like a glove. So whether it's another lump of metal, plastic and a cord, or something entirely different, it'll most likely be ingenious. Unfortunately, only Nintendo-games confirmed so far for download.
HOWEVER, Square Enix will most likely allow it (Secret of Mana, Crono Trigger, etc), and Sega wants Genesis games on there. w00t! -------------------- "Dance, water, dance!" -Demyx, Kingdom Hearts II "I met my love before I was born..." -AFI, 'Love Like Winter' from 'Decemberunderground' Currently Playing: Guitar Hero, Shadow of the Colossus |

One question, if you could download any Nintendo Game ever made on the Nintendo consoles, does that mean I can finnaly Play Final Fantasy IIIj and Tales of Phantasia?
I am probaly going to get a revolution due to backwards compatibiltiy (I'll keep my gamecube games and controllers and Memory cards and just sell my GameCube when it comes out, I'll just start saving now for revolution). Online Smash Bros. is going to fun (About Damn time Nintendo. |

Online Smash Bros. will be REALLY awesome, hell i love playing smash bros. by myself dont know what ill do with myself when its online. This thing about being able to play any nintendo game on the rev, if you still own a nintedo or super nintedo (that works) will be able to take those games and still play them on the rev? Or will you absolutely have to download them from the internet? If you can just play them it would save some money (always a good thing).

You mean... like you're asking if there's a slot or something? No, you'll have to download them if you wanna play on the Revolution. And I don't see why everyone's like "ZOMG, d3y ar3 charging |\/|0n3y for t|-|3 old g4m3s! That's unfair!" What, you think you were just gonna get 'em for FREE? Would you pay money for a FFVI cart online? Ya. So why not pay 5-10 bucks for a legal download? The downloadable old games alone is the sole reason that I'll be buying a Revolution.

I assume by "everyone" you mean either "the three people who have commented on it in this thread" or "the massive amount of my early teenage peers who actually talk like I typed that." There is a legitimate business model behind all possible options here (free games, or paying for a permanent download, paying for a temporary download, or all of the above). It all depends on how Nintendo wants to push that feature to the market; so while I agree that they probably won't be free, I think your dismissal does not adequately evaluate the possibility in exchange for a chance to poke fun. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

If you go to a bunch of other forums, you'll se what I mean by "everyone," I wasn't just talking about CoN. But no, I'm not saying that it'll be like I said, I'm just sayin' that if they DO charge for them (which I... THINK... they might've confirmed... not really sure though), then it's not some big travesty, y'know? But yeah, I guess that you're right that there aren't many Narshians (hehe) like that.
But about the "early teenage peers..." well early teenagers DO tend to be the most... outspoken... fanboys generally. Again, I'm lucky that there aren't any of "those" people here... EDIT: I think it will actually be more of an "all of the above" thing. Maybe some NES games could be free and stuff, but later generation games would cost more. Oh, and what do you mean by "pay for temporary download"? Just wonderin'. I think the reason Nintendo is charging for their classic downloads is to pay for their free online servive that they will use for DS and the Revolution. Which is justifiable.

Thats borderline spam, Gau....
But yeah, it DOES look like one. See, I was originally gonna get the Rev, then the PS3, and never the 360, but my plans have changed. I'm getting either the Rev or 360 first, then the other, then, if I can afford the PS3, that last. The 360 has an excellent Live service and great 3rd Party support. yeah, just saw the controller on engadget a few minutes ago.
why is it a tv remote?!!! and about the video. almost had me for a second there. but then i realized, isn't the point of a video game that you don't have to move around? i mean, what were they thinking? until now i was actually considering a rev.but no way am i going to be sitting around on my couch pissed because my arm is tired and the "controller" isn't telling the rev what to do because the signal won't get through. ick. -------------------- ADAEAFADAEAFAGAEAFAGAAAFAGAAABbAGAAAFAGAEAFADAEA C#ADAAABbGAAAFAGAEAFADAEAC#AFADAEAC#ADAAABbAGAA AEAFADAGAEAFADAEAC#AD |

Yeah man, it's AMAZING. Yesterday I thought to myself, after learning about the controller, "I should go revive the Revolution thread on CoN," but then my dad came in the room and it was late and he made me go to bed. That sucked.
But the thing I like most about it is that, theoretically, it could completely do away with "attacks" or "moves" as we know it! You know what I mean. "Press A+Up to do a sword thrust, press A+left to do a sideways slash." Well y'know what? With the revolution, you make your OWN attacks, dangit! It's awesome. I can just imagine riding through Hyrule on Epona with the add-on joystick, while slashing enemies to pieces in what's PRACTICALLY virtual-reality. Pssh, silly Microsoft and Sony and thier "controllers." So lame. Hm... So there's sort of a "classic controller" adaptor that allows you to insert the remote and play more traditionally? If that classic thing plays Soul Calibur (or any crossplatform game, SC is just an example) as well as the other two systems, then Nintendo has a serious edge with their controllers. Just as I originally had doubts with the DS only to have them alleviated later, I have a feeling the Revolution will feel funny at first, and then turn out enough awesome games to merit a purchase from any fan of video games. Well done, big N.

I have to say, and this is coming from a huge Nintendo supporter, that "controller," and what Nintendo expects people to do with it based on that video, STINKS.
Way to go, Nintendo. Please, don't bother trying to convince me, either. I didn't post this to argue. Just my two cents. |
