1) King from tekken! I like a lot of the characters in this game but enjoy using his fighting style the most.
2) Ken from street fighter.. Shoryuken! so cool! the only street fighter character I like a lot. 3) Scorpian he's cool, the only mortal combat character i really like. 4) Jon Talbain (Werewolf) simple moves list, has so much style and is pretty much unbeatable once I mastered him! 5) Wolverine from xmen vs street fighter "let's go bub!" very cool This post has been edited by fatman on 2nd March 2005 17:12 -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |

Street Fighter: The aforementioned Ken. Ryu and Vega are VERY close seconds, but I just dig Ken.
Mortal Kombat: Ermac, Reptile, Noob Saibot, and Shang Tsung are all my favorites. 10.) Sophitia (SC) - Her sword attacks are great for knocking people out of arenas.
09.) Sub Zero (MK) - Freeze, uppercut, rinse, repeat. 08.) Lord Raptor (DS) - Gotta love the Death Hurricane. 07.) Mai Shiranui (FF, KOF) - Despite the outrageous endowments, she's a solid fighter. 06.) Talim (SC) - Speed, speed, and more speed. ![]() 05.) Nightwolf (MK) - Somehow, someway, I always seemed to win with him and his balefire-like axe. 04.) Ryu Hayabasa (DOA) - The main guy from the old school Ninja Gaiden quickly won me over with "sheer ninja coolness". 03.) Long (BR) - Loved the Bloody Roar games and I loved gorging people as a tiger. 02.) Blue Mary (KOF) - Loved her attack set. I used her almost exclusively in KOF. 01.) Ryu (SF) - The classic. The first character I ever got into for fighting games. |

having very limited knowledge on the subject, my favourites are (in no particular order):
ryu (SF): HADUKEN! nuff said. raphael (SC2): nice fencing style. obscene number of possible combo hits (my record 36!) ivy (SC2): who doesn't like a living sword? Nightmare: I like swords. again, nuff said. charade (SC2): he mimics a random character, and looks infinitely cooler than his tekken counterpart. kilik: awsome staff skillz; longest reach in the game! voldo: wierd. totally wierd. the only character somebody has used to beat me in SC2. Haggar (final fight 1-3): not quite in the same genre, but he's cool. and huge. who would like him as a mayor? (although of course there is arnie as governor of california, but haggar could beat him any day!) -------------------- "Fire and steel follow me through the lands you will burn hordes of hell in the deadly raging flames of revenge" Rhapsody - Flames of Revenge |

I'm an all out arcade freak, so here's my TEN OF THE BEST (I'd make a game with just these ;P)
(order is random) 1 -Heihachi Mishima (Tekken series). The old man never loses it Possible spoilers: highlight to view I don't do much combos with him, but he's perfect for defensive fighting and pretty freaky on the offensive (juggle, juggle, juggle...)until he's blown up with a horde of Jacks, that is 2 -Jin Kazama (Tekken) The son of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama. In T3 and TTT he's the perfect offensive fighter, able to wipe out even Kuma in one good charge, though he lacks in defense. In T4 he learns "traditional", as the story says, karate (Shotokan? Kyoukushin? Don't ask.) this brings a massive change in his fighting style, leaving only a few attacks left from the Mishima-ryu karate. This new style brings in whole new defensive tactics into handling Jin, yet leaves his offensive skills no less devastating. 3 -Hwang Sungkyung (Soul Blade, Soul Calibur) Koreans kick ass. Hwang is the perfect display of their skilll. His fencing and leg attacks made him my all time favourite in Soul Edge(Blade, I know...) and Soul Calibur. However, the lack of him in SC2 is unforgivable (Yungsung HAS the same attack combos, but they work differrently.). I always loved playing him against someone playing Mitsurugi. 4 -Talim (Soul Calibur 2) YungSung's destined adversary, and THE MOST FREAKING, POWERFUL, MURDEROUSLY EFFICIENT CHARACTER IN THE GAME dude! This little girl with the tonfa blades is not only uncontrollably cute (She even apologizes when she beats you! Kawaii! ![]() 5 -Ken Masters (Street Fighter) friend and rival of Ryu, the center char in the SF series. More arrogant and much more stuck up than his friend, he also shows much more sense of humor and is much more "human" to go about. His flaming Shoryuken (Dragon Punch) rulez!! ![]() 6 -Akuma (Street Fighter) brother of Gouken (Ken and Ryu's master),his name means "Devil". Fallen into the power of dark Hadou, he killed his brother and decided to personally tend to Ryu's "education" and pull him into the clutches of dark Hadou. Being (at least in theory) the most powerful in the series, easily surpassing Bison's psycho power, Sagat's strenght or Dhalsim's skill, he simply kicks ass. Akuma has been making guest appearances under several disguises in other Capcom games (Z-Gouki in Cyberbots, Magma Dragoon in Megaman X 4...). 7 -Wolverine (X-men: Children of the atom) my favourite X-man (sharing the first place with Nightcrawler and Gambit, but non the less...), when I first played the game, I picked him and I stick to it to this day. His attacks are unrivaled and the only enemies you actually HAVE to use his specials aginst are Juggernaut and Magneto, and for that mostly the berserker charge, not as much an attack as a technique, making him faster (and stronger I think) for a while. A while long enough to annihilate the enemy, that is. 8 -Genjuro (Samurai Showdown) the purple haired samurai is my all time favourite SNK charachter. I haven't played as much of SS as of the above mentioned games, but whenever I did, I got farthest when playing Genjuro (same goes for Capcom vs. SNK. He ties with Ken there). 9 -Sub Zero (Mortal Kombat) the Lin Kuei assasin, hired in MK1 to kill Shang Tsung. Early on in the series his basic style was practically the same as scorpions. I haowever, perfer the cold murderer over the hot-headed avenger. 10-Raiden (Mortal Kombat) thunder god, later seen as guardian of the Earth Realm. His "spooky" manner and style of fighting, including the specials, have made him one of my favourites. EDIT: as to someone's refferring to Raiden's evilness earlier on: Possible spoilers: highlight to view In MK1 Raiden was just the Thunder God. Shang Tsung invited him to the tournament to show off his powers, but Raiden easily destroyed all competition, Goro and Shang Tssung. (being a god makes you badass). Since the winner overtakes the tournament, Raiden has become the new host. He longed for challenge so he invited other gods to participate, but when gods fight, worlds are destroyed. That's what happens when you beat MK1 with Raiden This post has been edited by SilverMaduin on 3rd March 2005 18:23 -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. to my original list, add:
devil (TTT): on an arcade machine his right kick was an unbeatable one which whacks them on the ground, quick enough to keep them on the ground all the time. cheap, but hey, it works! trueogre: big fire-breathing demon. super evil. super badass. -------------------- "Fire and steel follow me through the lands you will burn hordes of hell in the deadly raging flames of revenge" Rhapsody - Flames of Revenge |

Definitely Devil/Angel from Tekken 2. Their laser attack basically kills anyone.
Also Xiaoyu and Nina/Anna from Tekken 2+. In MK, Sub Zero and Scorpion are kick-ass. ![]() -------------------- Yunalesca: "Hope is...comforting. Ling Xiaoyu is so fun to use in the Tekken games, and she's better than ever in Tekken 5. I'm surprized she's popular here. I would have thought most people go for all the muscleheads.
Then there's Glacius in the Killer Instinct series. His moves are great, and turning into a blob of goo is fun. ![]() -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

Piccolo from DBZ: Hyper Dimension.
Yeah, I know it's a spin-off game from the show. Still, Hyper Dimension is for me *the* beat-'m-up to end all beat-'m-ups, and Mortal Kombat has never been able to hold my attention. Piccolo in particular is awesome because he has no awesome combo's, no massive super attacks and a lame "I consist out of several normal Piccolo attacks" Desperation Attack, yet still easily ranks among the best characters simply by his normal punches. Oh yeah, and he can RIP HIS OWN ARM OFF. Edit: I just remember I used to play a game called 'Body Blows' or something when I was a wee lad. It had a ninja in it who could do this vertical bad-ass rotating katana attack when you jumped. I defeated the entire game with that move and that move only. Anybody remember who that guy was? Edit2: Life is awesome. The ninja guy was officially called 'Ninja'. This post has been edited by Djibriel on 8th March 2005 01:17 -------------------- |

Talim ARC is mediocre at best, and Talim console is horrible. Though a skilled player can pace her along most of the mids, she's dog meat to the god tier (ESPECIALLY Yoshi). I do agree that she's better than Nightmare, seeing as Nightmare got terribly nerfed transitioning from SC to SC2, but that's really not saying much. Cervantes (SoulCalibur) There's just something cool about a dead pirate who can teleport into the sky and fall down while slashing you.
Talim (SoulCalibur) She may not be all that great as a fighter, but there's just something about her that makes it so you can't help but like her. Vega (Streetfighter 2) I don't know why, but he's just...cool. Sephiroth, Vincent, Yuffie (Ehrgeiz) I've always loved these guys, even back when I first played FF7, these three have always been my favorites. (As an after thought, you do get Yuffie in Ehrgeiz, right?) And finally, B B Hood (Darkstalkers I think. I know she's in Marvel vs. Capcom 2) It's Little Red Riding Hood...WITH A SUB-MACHINE GUN!!!! She may not be strong, but she's really funny to fight as/against. This post has been edited by Random Person on 12th March 2005 14:53 -------------------- ~ Aurora, exhale bloody air! Dark Holy! ~ |

1) Kyosuke - Rival Schools: He's so cool. Look at his style! His moves are cool, as is his fashion.
2) Venom - GGX2 #Reload: He attackes with a billiards cue. What more needs to be said? 3) Chun Li - Xmen VS. Street Fighter: In almost all games she is a favourite, but in this game she stands out for me. She's hardcore ![]() That's basically it. I just want to give an honorable mention to some characters, since I'm not much of a fighting game player.
High Honorable Mention: Mega Man and Rush ([whatever] vs. Capcom) Honorable Mention: the mewtwo-looking character from Dragonball Z Hyperdimension Edit Quote (Android #19) Mewtwo looking guy? Eh, why not...
At this point I only play Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike and me favorite characters there are Urien and Necro. Sometimes I'll play Ken or Chun Li for kicks (no pun intended), too, but when I'm serious, tis the former two I play. Way back in the day, though, I used to play MK as well and I was all about Sub-zero and Syrax (I believe that's his name). -------------------- |

Part of the reason MK was never my favorite series was that I thought it was kind of lame to have so many palette-swappings as characters in the first few games. You have the whole Scorpion/SubZero/Rain/Chameleon/Ermac/Reptile/Smoke set, the Kitana/Khameleon/Mileena set and then the Cyrax/Smoke/Sektor set; I'm pretty sure they stopped doing that sincec MK3 (the last MK I played as part of Trilogy), but I won't get all of those "let's only play as ninjas!" fights out of my head. Deadly Alliance and Deception certainly look cool and what I remember of the MK storyline is pretty cool, but I dunno if I could get over the negative nostalgia. Oh, and for the record, my favorite MK characters are and always will be Raiden, Kano, and Kung Lao. They're pretty awesome, and I'm pretty sure they're still alive and kicking in the series. -------------------- |

After buying MK: Deception (my first MK since MK 4 was released) I have one more to add; Kobra! Although Shang Tsung still remains my favorite of the series, Kobra is the brand-new character that I like in this game. Granted, he may be criticized for being a rip-off of Ken Masters from Street Fighter fame (in fact, he WAS to be Ken but the idea was scrapped), his fighting styles and special attacks are awesome and his fatalities are kick-ass! He was the first fighter I selected in this game, and although his AI isn't too difficult, I rarely lose a battle with him; most of my losses are attributed to the boss. Here's to Kobra

My favorite fighting game characters are those who fight GOOD. The ones I liked in my top 3 are:
1) Tifa Lockheart (EhRgEiZ) 2) Eddy (Tekken 3) 3) Mai Shiranui (King Of Fighters/Fatal Fury) I liked others too, but these are the fastest I can think on top of my head.. |

You all have made me post a WHOPPING 4 times today.
![]() Anyway... I have organized my list by game and favorite male and female characters in each game. If a game does not include a female, it means that either I didn't like any of the female characters in the game, or the male character was so awesome that I just did not use anyone else. Street Fighter (ALL) - Akuma (F) Fatal Fury (ALL) - Joe Higashi (FM) - Mai Shiranui (FF) The ONLY female for a while... Mortal Kombat (ALL) - Ermac (FM) - Jade (FF) Soul Calibur(BOTH) - Mitsurugi and Raphael tie (FM) Mitsurugi radiates this "I'm an awesome Japanese swordsman" aura, and Raphael has that snooty, European noble "I can dance and best you with my flimsy weapon simultaneously" aura... Both I love ![]() - Xianghua (FF) Tekken(ALL) - Yoshimitsu (FM) - Michelle/Julia (FF) Side note: Forgive me for being cocky or overconfident, but after smashing everyone I have ever played in this game, it's hard not to be- I am a god at this game. I have played it more than any other fighter, and am near-godly with every character that has ever been in this line of Namco games. Yoshi and Michelle/Julia just happen to be my favorites, style-wise. Virtua Fighter(ALL) - Akira (See below) ---------------------- Akira is my favorite fighting game character of all time. He is hard-nosed, gritty and a freaking difficult character to master (in a game that is equally difficult to master). Also, with that having been said, the Virtua Fighter games are the best fighting games I've ever played. And just because I did not mention a particular fighting game up there does not mean I've played it. I listed the ones that made the most impact on me. (Note: I'm not counting Super Smash Brothers, since it is not a traditional (life bar) fighting game~ BUT it is one of my all-time favorites :3) I have played Killer Instinct, several of the DBZ and DBZ Budokai games, the DoA series, the Marvel vs. Capcom games, Marvel vs. SNK, Samurai Shodown games, X-Men: CotA, and countless other ones. If you are a fighting game fanatic, and have not played Virtua Fighter (Particularly 4 or 4: Evo), play it. It is the best fighting game that I, personally, have ever played. One of the things I especially enjoy about it is that it is a game that is hard for a newbie to play, so most of the people that play it are decent. While good Tekken and other fighting game vets can make their skills obvious in their game, the cheese factor is almost completely impossible in VF. If you have played VF and didn't like it, play it some more and get good at it. You will like it then. ![]() ![]() |

Not that I don't respect your opinions, I wholeheartedly do, it's just hard for me to believe that you not only have the big steel balls to admit you are a god at Tekken, especially when you play characters as low on the tier as Yoshimitsu and Julia, but you also consider VF to be better than every other fighting game ever. At any rate, you have your opinions and I have mine, and I'm going to stop before this post begins to make me sound like a jerk. Favorite Fighting Game Characters by Game I began doing this in a top ten fashion, but I stopped realizing it was too hard. Street Fighter Ken Masters. Sure, he was a straight rip off of Ryu in SFII, but as the series went on, Capcom really fleshed out his character (not to mention his moveset) and made him and the other Shotos pretty different from each other by the time SFIII came around. And by different, I mean that Ken finally got the Top Tier he effing deserved and Ryu finally got somewhat nerfed ![]() Honorable Mentions: Chun-Li and Blanka. Fatal Fury Terry Bogard. A beast of a design. Great outfit, good story and background, and a heroic yet playful personality. SNK really hit the nail on the head when they made Terry Bogard, but then again, they always do a good job. I especially enjoyed how Terry evovled from Fatal Fury all the way up to Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Honorable Mentions: Joe Higashi and Kim Kaphwan King of Fighters Iori? I don't know. He's pretty sweet, but I always felt that KoF lacked lovable characters save those coming in from other video games such as Fatal Fury. Honorable Mentions: Ryo and Yamazaki...also not really from KoF but whatever Mortal Kombat Scorpion? I didn't enjoy many of MK's character designs. Get over here! Honorble Mentions: Sub-Zero and Raiden Tekken Steve Fox. I don't have a ton of exposure to Steve, but between his awesome moveset, his decent backstory, and his great visual look, he won my heart. Tekken had some interesting designs that were really original, but the characters that I frequent are all just rips off of real martial artists. Honorable Mentions: Lei Wulong aka Jackie Chan and Martial Law aka Bruce Lee Soul Calibur Kilik? Really only because he's the character I play. His moveset is unoriginal, but I always enjoyed the long staff. Like MK, I didn't really like the designs in this game. Honorable Mentions: Maxi and Hwang -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

Chun Li (Street Fighter)- She's been THE best female fighting character ever. If you're not agreeing to this then you suck and should eat flaming death.
Sakura (Street Fighter Alpha II)- I loved her in the anime, as well as the game. Her antics were also amusing. I loved owning someone in that game just to watch her kick off her own shoe. Mai (Fatal Fury)- I think she was a refreshing change. I love a girl who could whoop your ass with a fan. Steve Fox (Tekken)- I could pull of such mean combos with him that it was almost a sin. Once you get past all the button mashing and start executing genuine combos, you can reasily wipe the floor with most people. -------------------- At times one remains faithful to a cause only because its opponents do not cease to be insipid. Quote (Kappa the Imp @ 26th September 2005 19:56) low on the tier it always comes down to the "tiers" with you and your brother: fighting game "champions" who have nothing to show for their obsession besides a bunch of memorized framecounts gleaned from an internet website. maybe y'all can win at those superstar 2d fighters with those 90-hit combos that you just have to mash those 2 buttons for, but leave the 3d fighters to 3d-fighter professionals. now, i don't know much about julia in any incarnation of tk (and from playing her, i do think she sucks hard myself), but for just about every tk game (except maybe 5) the accepted "tier" system puts yoshi at middle-to-upper tier. not that i would use anyone but lee or asuka when playing anyway, but it's simply impossible to determine who is really better than who by looking at a bunch of numbers on paper; there are so many characteristics of moves that cannot be explicity accounted for in framedata without inordinate sums of time and computing power (and an equally time-endowed friend) on one's hand. why do you think the quasi-arbitrary "tier" assignments always change up (at least in sc; it's fairly impossible to beat the incredibly unbalanced steve fox in tk)? it isn't because they re-examined the frame data. it's because someone brings a new and exceedingly useful interpretation of a move or jf or finds some great new way to abuse step/cancel/buffer/whathaveyou. tiers can only take so much into account. most tier systems, given that they're based on pen-and-paper theory calibur, assume things like perfect input, and forget about mixup opportunities and other mindgames like moves that look the same to start out but end up hitting in totally different places. beside that, there are only so many moves you'll ever end up using for any particular character anyway, so a character who may be rated low-tier for a gaggle of slow, punishable non-8wr b-strings may actually end up being an extremely effective and powerful character in the hands of the player who has mastered the nuances of that particular characters' strengths (and abuses, natch) in an out. it's a wonder that the best sc2 player in the world uses cassie, who has compared to the other characters a total dearth of guaranteed combos and a low-ranking tier to boot, alongside x, who is nearly inarguably the most broken and cheapest character in the game. there is no such thing as a true tier system in a fighter -- at least not a 3d fighter with the depth of, say, sc. just about the only thing that can be agreed on is that taki's breasts are definitely top-tier. edit: had to add the last pgph This post has been edited by gozaru~ on 29th September 2005 05:43 |
