I've been playing FFT again lately and I attempted to draw a few of the characters that I've run into so far. First things first, though:
Artist: Galsic Email: [email protected] Medium: 0.5 mech pencil (all of this still stands for all the drawings I've posted in this thread thus far) Agrias size 107kb 800 x 1056 I might attempt more characters as I run into them, but who knows... Edit There, everything's been rescanned and scattered throughout the thread as file attachments (even added a new picture ![]() This post has been edited by Galsic on 19th September 2005 22:17 Attached Image ![]() -------------------- |

Some pretty solid pics there. Proportions are very good and I like your style. The characters have a somewhat realistic look to them, which is nice too. Don't think I could quite pull that off.
I think I like the Rudvich pic the best, with Agrias a close second. Queklain is creepy. -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

Is it jest me or are me pics flaking out here? They worked before and Rujuken was able to see them earlier. Hmmm...

It won't even work for me if I go to your webpage. I think you should put these pictures on your artwork page, and link to that, since Angelfire doesn't want you to be able to link to the pictures themselves.
Also, you can attach the pictures to this thread with a file attachment. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Now that I can see 'em, those are some very well done pieces there. The style isn't exactly my cup o' tea, but in this case the realism applied really shines through and adds a wonderfully authentic human look to the characters...'cept for Queklain, but y'know what I mean.
![]() I think they're all equally great, and the amount of detail in each is superb. Nice! -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Seems the new link is proving more cooperative...at least for now, anyway, so I'll leave it that way for the time being.
Yeah, the style that I employed here is actually a slight (albeit noticeable) deviation from me usual style, which is somewhat closer to comic book art. Honestly, I don't know which style is more "realistic," but I ended up choosing what I felt was more appropriate for these particular pics and, some minor mistakes aside, I'm fairly happy with them. Edit Actually, that link is no longer available. Queklain size: 108kb 736X1088 This post has been edited by Galsic on 19th September 2005 22:11 Attached Image ![]() -------------------- |

From what I'm seeing here, your style, I like
![]() I definately wouldn't classify it as realistic, but it's more true to what the human face actually looks like than some anime stuffs. I'd have to say it's more of an American cartoony style (for some reason "Liberty Kids" comes to mind). What's more important is that you're practicing your own style and not trying to heavily emulate others. It's a breath of fresh air to see someone do that. Agrias: Quite nice. I'm really drawn to her face (it's so sweet and gentle). You did a really good job all around with her figure with a few exceptions (her legs need some work). Again, like seeing a woman with her figure truer to life (ie, no balloon boobs). Good details with the bits of her armor and clothing. (oh, and nice sword) Rudvich: Can't say that you're one for generic expressions.... He has this 'yeah, what do you want?' look on his face. You started to put in some good shading in his face, but looks like it's incomplete. Next time, follow through. It'll help your piece overall if you're consistant. The top portion of the figure is the best with the head, cloak, and arm. Bottom part of your drawing is kinda weak with not the best modeling. I think I'm seeing a pattern here.... Kame: My, my, my, went through me pics with a fine-toothed comb, didn't ye? While I actually appreciate that, at the same time, ye made me feel a wee bit defensive about me babies (me babies...
![]() About the humans' legs: I'll admit that I actually didn't finish up their legs (hence the croppin). Their top parts were of more interest to me and once I was done with those, I sort of lost interest in finishing everything else. Furthermore, I originally intended to make Agrias walking (in other words, one leg behind the other), but again... About Queklain's arms: I only had Queklain' s sprites in the actual game to base me drawing on and, from what I could tell, his arms ain't particularly human-like. Then again, neither is the rest of his body, so there ye go. Other general comments: I am kind of weak when it comes to clothing and shading (in fact, with folds of fabric, they kind of go hand-in-hand). There are certain particulars about those things that still boggle me, but I'm trying to work on it...sort of. Anyhoo, I'll try to put more effort on me next drawing(s) and see what happens, eh? -------------------- |

Just off the top of my head, I think one of the pieces I looked at (on CoN), I wrote a 666 word (totally co-incidental) mini critique for it. And that was just one drawing. When I was still in college, I used to spit out a critique on a famous work of art or fellow student within a day. What can I say? I'm used to it. I gots a question. I intend to wipe out the page in which me three pictures are located. Anyone know whether I can put the three pics in the same post using the file attachment option or will I have to post them separately?

They will need to be posted separately. Only one file can be attached to a single post.

Alrighty, first off, I'd jest like to thank both Elena99 and R51 for their inputs on me pic-posting concerns
![]() Now then, as I added in me first post, I drew up a new FFT character! Algus size: 113kb 848 X 1056 Comments: This is supposed to be Algus in the battle at Ft. Zeakden, with his crossbow drawn and beckoning the heroes to "come get some" or something. I sort of attempted the heroes' point of view for this drawing and, while I'm never completely satisfied with any of me artworks, it is especially the case with this drawing as me grasp of angled figures and foreshortening is still a bit awkward. Still, I think I got the effect I was aiming for (more or less). This post has been edited by Galsic on 6th October 2005 16:14 Attached Image ![]() -------------------- |

Yeah, you definately captured Algus' uptight Harvard better-than-you attitude. He looks kind of weak, though, which may or may not be the reason why he's holding a feeble-looking crossbow, but he does seem...under-strong. The picture itself is very nice though.
Agrias: Looks kind of like how I imagined her to be, except her dress-thing looks kind of short. Only qualm I have, but maybe I shouldn't be picking at it? Eep! Queklain: I thought his face looked kind of like a malformed duck (sorry!) but I looked at the closed-mouth character portrait, and I can imagine him looking like your image. Really ugly, gluttonous, and vile...in a good way! Rudvich: Awesome! I can actually imagine him looking like that, all sulking and kind of disturbed under the surface. His garb looks appropriate for his slightly chubby frame, too, so that's another good thing--he's not slimmed down for the image! If only he were more competent in finding things, he might lose a few pounds, huh? ![]() -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

I love the Agrias pic! I didn't like Rudvich too much, but a good shot at him. Queklain, I think, should be drawn to look more sadistic than what he does. The Algus pic from Ft. Zeakdan is my favorite with Agrias as a second. You gave Algus the cockiness and superiority that he boasts in that battle. I love your work!

I haven't replied here yet? ::slaps self:: These are all very good. I like your drawing style; it's very matter-of-fact and solid, and I'd be interested to see what you could do in other media, like inks, or even just a little photoshop-assisted touchup.
Queklain is my favorite here; he looks great. And scary. I was always scared worst of Queklain. Maybe I have, like, a deep-seated fear of morbid obesity. This post has been edited by L. I have little experience in media outside of pencil (even colored pencils, although I'd love to try those out). Inks? Eh, I'd have to do the drawing in pencil, first, anyway. I make too many mistakes so erasers rule me life. As for photoshop, I only have a basic understanding of that program and, really, I'm not too sure what more I could do with it before me drawings become more CG than I care for.
