allright, i'm going to try to make my first perfect game ever and i'd like some tips on what i should do, right now i'm in the WoB, ready
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
to go to the sealed gate
so if i want to level up, should i just fight the monsters on the middle continent, or in the cave?

and i have some questions like
  • what is the relic ring, and where do i find it?
  • can Strago learn lores from gau?
sorry, small list, i know.

and before we go on to hacking, umm... i don't know how to hack and seems too complicated for me to even try.

my levels around 16-19

The first thing you should do is define what a perfect game is. I would ask the following:

1. Are you going to get all of Gau's Rages? Most of them are completely unnecessary, if not duplicates, and will only take up space to make the list longer, not to mention the four that you can't get anyway (Chupon, Siegfried, Allo Ver, Pugs). I'd still be willing to call a game perfect if I didn't fill the list simply because it's a waste of time to do so, as long as I have all the Rages I'm willing to use. If *I* missed NightShade, for example, "perfect" Rage list or no it wouldn't be a perfect game because NightShade happens to be useful to me.

2. Esper or sword? By getting the Esper, you end up having all of the Espers you can possibly have (excluding Odin or Raiden obviously) making a perfect Esper list, but only taking the sword will let you reach 254 items. Would you be willing to use the Sketch bug to have both?

3. Esper bonuses. What do you consider perfect as far as bonus usage is concerned? Will you even bother setting a standard for this beyond HP/MP?

4. Cid. Is a game perfect if Cid lives, if it gives Celes better character development, or do you even give a **** either way? I usually end up saving Cid regardless (I've only allowed him to die twice in 11 years time), so to me, it's valid.

Why bring up hacking, though? If you want a perfect game, what need would you have for that? May as well just use FF3h after you've finished everything up to before final Kefka. Hell, if you're considering hacking, why not the Sketch bug? Then you don't even have to worry about question 2, just grab the Esper and use the bug on a mould 7 monster like Hoover or Zone Eater.

For the Relic Ring, there's one in Owzer's basement in a small nook behind the three doors (the chest is hidden, you can reach it from the small passage to the right), but for anymore you must Metamorph. Strago can learn Lores so long as they are used and he doesn't have a status preventing him from learning (contrary to every other Blue Mage in the series, he can learn from simply witnessing a Lore, being hit doesn't matter), he can even learn L.5 Doom from Setzer's Joker Doom. So yeah, don't worry about how the Lore is used.

If you want all of Gau's rages: There's an extremely good chance you missed a bunch already.

In WoB - there are two things other than Gau's Rages you need: The Atma Weapon and Mog's Water Rondo. Other then that, if saving Shadow counts as one...

I think I have devised the perfect Weapon/Armor list that gives everyone in the game equally powerful weapons and relics - but the more I think about it, the more I think that most people would have seriously different opinions about each individual character and what they perfer.

As for Strago's Lores: There is one you can only grab once - Forcefield - cast by Doom. Also, it is a good idea to 'Steal' from Doom, Poltergeist and Goddess for each of their special items. (On a side note, I'd suggest learning Quasar from Goddess as well. It's time consuming for multiple runs through Kefka's tower but...)

Other then that, the rest is all able to be grabbed if you missed it in the first place - besides the items in WoB that is, and some in say the burning house in that town that's north of Kefka's Tower.

And for a perfect game: The sword > esper. It's your choice, but you'd want to go with a sword.

And also: IMO - 9999 HP 999 MP really doesn't matter. I'd rather have +2 to vigor and suffer from '970' MP.

And there's my thoughts on the matter. If you want, PM me and I'll give you what weapons and armor I gave my characters, because while its probably not the best out there possible, I believe it comes very close - its worked for me so far. happy.gif

Can you really get Ragnarok with the sketch bug? I was looking at your guide Master ZED and it didn't list that for the mould 7 monsters.

Well, no. That's not the point.

The Ragnarok sword itself can be stolen in the final battle so there's no need to get and keep it, especially since the Illumina is plentiful no matter which variant you use on mould 7. The goal of using the bug as the guide is right now is to get Illumina and steal Ragnarok later like you normally would, but without giving up the Ragnarok Esper to do so.

Two of them also give Paladin Shlds, so you can keep the Cursed Shld for a perfect Item list of 255 at the finale.

There's always the chance I'll find Ragnarok before the guide is completely finished. We don't know all of the variants out there yet, nor do we know what FF6j has to offer.

well, i am going to get the sword over the esper ragnarok, cause the paladin shield is just about the same thing.

umm.. i don't know any of the bugs, and i'm trying to get all of Gau's rages, but i don't think i need Chupon, Siegfried, Allo Ver, Pugs, umm,..maybe? huh.gif and i mostly want to get all the lores and rages because i hear that if you do,
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
you get a scene with Setzer and gogo
and i do want all the lores. (i think i just said that) and at the end i'd like all my characters to be at level 99

and i probably will use esper bonuses.

oh, question, to get the relic ring, could you maybe show me a picture?

and i need the esper for it? is that what you're saying?

What does it do, anyways unsure.gif

1. If you don't know anything about the bugs of FF3, my site can help with that.

2. Gogo has no second identity and therefore can't be Daryl, there is no scene, end of story.

3. Relic Ring location:

The Relic Ring makes you undead. Not very useful at all. And you only need Metamorph if you want more than one.

Sax: Terii's Algorithms FAQ has the level averaging formula, and I'm sure an LLG guide would have the parts where this is done. Check GameFAQs.

From what I've gathered, it's a bug in which whenever Relm (or Gogo for that matter) misses their sketch for whatever reason, the game still tries to load a palette for the sketch, but instead of loading a monster picture, it accesses data from elsewhere in the game providing some really pscychadelic images during the battle. Positive side effects can include your Inventory of items being rewritten so that it includes tons of stuff that you may or may not already have (like multiple Excalibur and Illumina swords, Paladin Shields, etc.). Negative side effects include the entire game becoming frozen (a simple restart fixes it, hope you saved!), losing some items that were already in your Inventory (hey, those 255 Illuminas have to go somewhere!), or anecdotally, your entire save file being erased. Permanently.

Side effects depend on the type of creature you Sketch and miss. You can a working list of effects and monster types at Master ZED's White Sheet.

Cheers.

I tried to get a perfect game this year, but I failed, miserabily. I had 254 items, in which I couldn't have both Cursed Shield and Paladin Shield, and only around +200 rages ( I can get more, but I missed Overmind and Magroader2...so what's the point anyway??) . A perfect game will include all Rages, so be careful . You must encounter with all enemies in order to have all Rages possibles. Grenade for example, is oftenly missed, or Magraoder2..even Insecare or Abolisher, you name them. ( I couldn't find Night Shade, by the way...someone can help me please??? The picture in Owzer's House doesn't want to fight with me ). I'll try to get a perfect game later, maybe next year. A perfect game also might include some oftenly missed scenes, such as the "piece of paper" in Returners' Hideout,or Setzer and Cid scene on the airship after the Banquet. But that's my opinion.

without using any bugs, you can only have like 253 items, i believe... Master Zed, confirm that for me if you wouldnt mind...

also, you can only have all but one of the espers, Oiden or Raiden

Well, if your aiming for a perfect game, here's a tip:

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
1) Get mog in WoB, and do the Sabin scenario with him in your party to get most/all of the dances, including the Water Rhondo. You can initiate this by landing the airship near the waterfall where Sabin and Cyan leaped. The game has provided a way for you to get back to the airship

Course I don't know how many other people know this... I live in practically the middle of nowhere, one of the 15 people within 20 miles who played this game, let alone beat it.

Ah, sry. This should explain things better. If not I apologize...

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
I meant the one where you can take control of Sabin when teh party splits up at the returners hideout, after Sabin falls in the river. Once you have Mog in your party you can a) go back to teh hideout and ride the raft (hint: the exit to it is along the south wall of Banon's room), b) Jump off the falls again (where the phantom forest was) or c)Land near the cave on the Veldt and ride the trench again. The serpent trench, lete river, and the falls can be done again, except no boss battles. No more phantom train either. These three areas are connnected so you can't get stuck in the game and be forced to start over.

Reminder: You can only get the Water Rhondo in the world of balance. The serpent trench is above water in the world of ruin, so no more underwater levels.

a quick tip: on the floating island, get celes to level 99 (it should take, oh say 10 hours or so. but, then, all your characters after the 'colapse' of the world will be at level 99)

i was wondering (this is off topic, but...oh well)

concerning gau: when you visit the old man (with sabin and gau in your party) who supposedly threw out his son since he thought he killed his mother (the one which you can supposedly do repairs for... can you really?), is there a way to actually reunite him with gau? i was unsuccessful. the gang gets him all dressed up, but the result isn't positive.
