A bit of a pretentious title, but nothing better came to mind. huh.gif

Anyway..usually I post up drawings in this forum, but this time around I went for something a little different - it's a rearrangement of the themes Fallen Heroes, World Revolution and Chrono's theme from Chrono Trigger. All the cool kids are rearranging music from Chrono Trigger, you know.

I'm not the world's best musician by a longshot, but it's something to do when the art block kicks in. smile.gif If the link dries up(or doesn't even work in the first place)...uh..kick me in the head and I'll re-upload it, I guess. Criticise away, I only have a vague clue what I'm doing. biggrin.gif

It's good. Not the best thing ever, but I definately like the style. Mostly there just wasn't enough going on at once, it felt kinda "empty." If that's what you were going for, then I'd suggest adding an "echo" effect of sorts, similar to some of the songs in Chrono Cross. Not an actual echo, but kindof a sustain, y'know? As if the song were being played in a HUGE room with nothing in it. That would greatly improve add to the mood, if it's what you're goin' for. If not, just add more background tracks or something.

BUT the parts that are in there are well written, with good harmonies. Additionally though, it seemed to end rather abruptly, and during "Chrono's theme" at the end, the bass was a little loud.

Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed it and won't be deleting it.

BTW, what did you use to make that? Just wondering. Dont post it here, PM me.

Wow, art AND music. You're good.

But I do have some comments.

At some parts of the song, the notes seemed to be slurred when it would have been better if they weren't in my opinion. That was my only real major problem with the entire thing, but it did seem a little odd that during the World Revolution it got a bit jazzy as opposed to the other parts. And you could have possibly made the ending a bit more noticable.

I'll be honest with you, I have no idea what I was going for. smile.gif I'll fiddle about a bit and give both of your suggestions a try. I'll have to try and get a hold of the Chrono Cross soundtrack though, I've never actually heard any of the music from it.

Indeed it does. I hope I'm not butchering it too badly. >_>

Art's more of my forte, which is probably kind of obvious from this. wink.gif I'll see what I can do about the slurring while I'm tweaking it..but I didn't actually notice the jazziness in World Revolution. Which is ironic, since I hate jazz. huh.gif I'll see what I can do about that as well. The ending was sort of the result of going "oh, pshshhahhfjsdlul*die*" after working on this for far too long, which is a pretty lousy excuse.. You win again, laziness. I'll work something better out.

It's okay. I don't particularly like it, nor can I quite tell which themes you're remixing. Of course, it's not like a MIDI-style track will be that great.

You seem to have a pretty good sense of instrumentation/orchestration, and I like that.

However, I'd prefer smoother changes of harmony/tonality, and better organization of the music into 'phrases'. The music doesn't seem to have the best cohesion, so to speak, in that it doesn't have the best 'drive' to make me thirst to hear what follows. But this is a great start. I, having been involved in music for some 14 years now, still have trouble with writing music that, in my opinion, sounds great. One of the problems with remixes is that the original version's music often had the most persuasive combination of harmonies anyways, and that for it to be a 'real' remix, a lot of composers try to do something significantly different. A number of OC Remixes and VG Mixes have run into that problem. (I especially find it annoying how most Super Metroid Lower Norfair remixes butcher the harmonies, personally.) But using certain chord progressions or harmonizations may help make the music 'speak' more convincingly. Phrasing, by means of textural or articulational change, can also help.

I'm now going to listen to it a second time.

---

Actually, come to think of it, it's actually rather well done, better than I initially thought. (I was also less sleepy this time.) Still, I notice some awkward chord progressions, and the entire piece seems like this long, uniformly flowing river. Could it be more interesting, such as stones, rapids, etc., so to speak? Tempo and rhythmic variation might be an idea. Also, some melodic lines seem to go in weird ways. Maybe that's from my years upon years of (boring) counterpoint training.

But nevertheless, I like it.

Also, I think I can tell what themes you're remixing:
"The Day the World Revived"
"World Revolution"
"Day of Lavos" (Lavos's Theme) <-- try to harmonize it differently when it appears. The harmonies then seem a bit strange (but that's my taste).
"Chrono Trigger" (Crono's Theme)

And I still think you orchestrate quite well.
