in the game i noticed that some characters weights were way off humanly possible
for their heights

the only two that were possible were Rosa 5'4''-104pds(seen it in real life)
and Yang 6'0'' 168

but a lot of the rest Kain 6'0''-134pds
cecil 5'10''-128pds
Edge 5'8''-112 pds (holy sh!!!!!!t, i'm 5'8'' and i wiegh 145, and i know the lowest i could go is 130, but i would have been off food and water for several days)
and lastly Tellah 5'10'' 106pds i can't see this as physically possible

I know the game is entirely fiction, but are these the origonal stats
or were they altered so that people in america could relate to people closer to average height (i don't mean to sound racist but a lot of people in japan are short)
or did the game developers not care that this is physically impossible?

so could anyone explain what happened
or just give their opinion on the matter

I would love to meet a living functioning human being who is 5'10'' and weighs 106pds

Oh man, there was a mega-troll here around six months ago or so whining about how Cecil should have been short or some other hoohah, but thankfully you're being civil and logical in your question.

The best answer I have for you is that it was some kind of localization mistake. Japanese people are typically short and slim. Perhaps in the translation to English they increased every character's listed height to make them seem more Western without changing their respective weights, or perhaps the original writers weren't thinking when they wrote the character descriptions and gave the characters Western typical heights and Eastern typical weights. I honestly have no idea, but it really isn't that important. The only place where you see that info is the manual, IIRC.

Here are some official Japanese stats.

Cecil: 178 cm, 58 kg (5'8, 128 lbs)
Cain/Kain: 183 cm, 61 kg (6'0, 134 lbs)
Rosa: 162 cm, 47 kg (5'3, 104 lbs)
Edge: 175 cm, 51 kg (5'7, 112 lbs)

So, slightly different, but not much. According to this, Edge is thinner than 98% of males of similar height and age.

But I've been ignoring the "official" statistics ever since they said Celes was 18. ::snort:: Also that Edge is six years older than Cecil (and nine years older than grown-up Rydia). Please.

I like how Palom and Porom are supposed to be six.

That is pretty bizarre. happy.gif Those weights might be possible, especially given the different trends across culture, but that's still for an average joe. No warrior-type is going to have so little muscle mass.

5'4''-104lbs

It's possible, but also quite dangerous. Most of the women are, unfortunately, very, very thin. I really hope young girls don't look at that and think "eek, I'm 5'4", but I'm 130lbs! What'll I do??"

Being that weight as a teenager isn't too bad, but as a woman, it's rare. Breasts and hips don't allow for it, usually.

well also it is generally limited by the lack of athletics in our modern day society
post-college that also makes it hard for a woman to maintain that weight

at 5'4'' for women age 30+ i know its healthy at around 114-120

give or take on breast and hip size

I don't understand why Tellah's isn't possible. I mean, he's supposed to be a fragile old man, albeit tall. Is he not?

Perhaps the people who made up these vital stats have been spending too much time playing with cheap weight calculators. Y'know, the types that say a female of my height, 5'3'', should weigh a MAXIMUM of 102 lbs., even with high muscle mass. If Rosa's 5'3 and 104 lbs, she must be overweight to the idiots who made/programmed those contraptions.

Several Japanese RPG's contain unbelieveable vital stats for characters. I just chalk it up to being fantasy. After all, why should only their worlds and the creatures therein be outta the ordinary; why not their weights too? Even Nintendo of America included their own stats in their FFIII(US) guide (which contradicts its other guides) stating young 'n' visually slim Gau is one of the heaviest characters behind Umaro and Sabin. Yeah, and I evolved from the spleen of Ghengis Khan...

I would say they're quite skinny, however, so am I.

Kain 6'0''-134pds
Cecil 5'10''-128pds
Me 5'10"-131 lbs

My main problem: They can weild giant swords and armor that is otherwise impossible to wear in combat and they are that thin.

Wearing armor like 'Diamond Armor' generally isn't too possible to wear and function in battle. Would your enemy be able to put a dent in your armor with their claws? No. Would you be able to move? No. Yet these people have the muscle mass of a 12-year-old who drinks soda next to the computer and plays D&D on the internet all day long (No offense to anyone that does: just don't expect to wield duel katanas or a 6-foot spear anytime soon).

If anything I'd perfer something along the lines of Celes from FF6's weight: she was some rediculous weight for a woman of that height, and rightfully so, she can equip some of the heaviest armor in the game, so I'd imagine she'd be all muscle.

Nah, that weight is an error (like 160, right)? that got spread around the Internet. Celes is 172cm/58kg, which is 5'6.5''/128 pounds. ( I hope you don't mean that's ridiculous.)

Still, a little more reasonable, at least.

Its probably because Japan (IMO) is a pretty slim/healthy country. Have you actually SEEN a fat/overweight Japanese person? XD (Besides sumo wrestlers they don't count >_>)

Hmm... I must be mistaken... I do believe there was a character that was near 200 pounds and didn't much look it... but it might be Sabin now that I think about it... I have double check their Bios now ><...
