Yeah, I hardly ever post my own stuff on boards other than my own because, I dunno, I guess I don't like fishing for compliments, but after seeing all the "sprites" posted here and all the "AWESOME, GREAT JOB" replies to them, I kinda felt it was my obligation to show some stuff that is actually done correctly? You know, proper shading, proportion?

Now, I'm no great artist, I can't make pixel art from scratch to save my soul, but I at least understand the concept of editing some things. Perhaps my posting of these works will not only educate some of you on what is proper and what isn't as far as pixel art editing goes, but maybe those of you who attempt it will do it right. happy.gif

I know it's coming off as snobbish. Forgive me, work's been a pain. I still love you CoN crazies, especially that J Man. WHAT A BOTTOM ON THAT MAN. Anyway...

First one is a pretty simple edit, not much added or taken away.

Everyone's favorite whining FF8 hero.

What's edited? You can see that for yourself. The fur and the belt were hand-done, though. As noted, you can tell, if there were any part of the sprite to call bad, it'd be my hand-drawn parts. =P

Now this one took a lot more work. It remains unfinished, because I lost the drive to get it completed.

Greatest villain in RPG history, folks. This was made out of a whole lot of different sprite parts, and a LOT of original shading and drawing, which unlike most of my other work, didn't come out so bad. The cape is the part that remains unfinished. It needs extra shading that I didn't feel like doing.

And lastly, what I have here is a "frankensprite." That is, taking a bunch of sprites, cutting them up, putting them together to form a new sprite. Then you edit it and you're done. First, the bases!

Finished result? A slightly misproportioned (TOTALLY SNK Playmore's fault, Balrog is all out of whack in that game) Triple H.

So there, I'm done educating, contributing, and venting at the same time. Let the criticisms begin! heart.gif

Nice work overall. If I'm not mistaken, that Squall sprite is edited from a Rock Howard sprite, from either one of the Capcom vs. SNK games or one of the Garou games. No idea where the Luca Blight parts come from, though.

Hehe, totally seconded. tongue.gif I've seen stuff dredged up in MSPaint over a few minutes get pages of compliments (and I don't even feel my own postings were anything more than "ok" yet definitely flawed in terms of shading and proportions, but it's programmer art anyways.) There's such a thing as being too nice, but eh, that's not the point here.

Rather, these are nice. Very nice. They don't even look like edits, and they're done on a pretty large scale, too! (None of that 16x24 SNES RPG sprite format! tongue.gif)

I'm curious about your plans. Do you intend to make a set of sprites for a fighting game, or are these merely for your own personal entertainement/practice? Even if you're resorting to something like Mugen, this could be quite impressive. thumbup.gif

Simply put, those are... very, very good. Speaking of which, I really should get around to playing Suikoden II...

Meh, I just make 'em when I'm bored. When I was a kid I used to draw pretty well, but then computers became m y big hobby, so I figured I'd give some sort of artwork a shot insted of staring at code all the time, not understanding it, and bothering J Man and Tiddles to fix it for me. :/

To answer the question about Luca. The head is from Haomaru (sp?) from Samurai Shodown, the shoulder and chest plates are from Charlotte, and the gauntlets, stomach plate, and leg armor are all drawn by hand. The trim on it is also by hand, as well as the sword, belt, and scabbard.

Cape is from Magneto, which is why it stands out so much. Different sprite style altogether from the other parts. Like I said, unfinished.

Squall is CVS2 Rock Howard.

I really like these, I've been trying to do some sprite editing but my computer spazzed out and I've been meaning to get a replacement adapter. But enough about me, the sprites are really well edited, especially Squall, though I hate him. What program do you use? Not really expecting a complicated answer, I've seen some done in ordinary MSPaint programs, I know I have.

Photoshop. Doesn't really matter, you can use almost anything for pixel stuff, but I'm used to using Photoshop. :/

Right now I'm working on some Namco x Capcom stuff for an actual project. When those are done I'll probably post 'em in here.

Figures you only come back to show off, and continue to lurk in a thread that strokes your ego. wink.gif

I like the Luca sprite very much. Nice to see that someone else appreciates his incredible evil-ness.
