On G4 < does anyone else besides me watch this?> Kefka was voted #9 on "most pyschopathic characters" and that made me a little angry, i mean, with this guy, he should have been like, #6, or something.

It might help if you posted a list of the other characters under consideration, or at least a link to the vote.

Well, I'm just surprised they gave props to an old school game character, so I'm just happy he's on the list at all.
I'm such a nerd, I think a mere mention of FFVI on TV would be enough to send me into squealing fangirl spasms. -------------------- Wilson: "That smugness of yours really is an attractive quality." House: "Thank you. It was either that or get my hair highlighted. Smugness is easier to maintain." |

Ha, but look whose picture is on the page! And they're still referring to the game as FFIII? They are so behind on the times. >_>
And you're right, the list is sort of....um....ridiculous. Neither Voldo nor Nemesis strike me as psychotic. Voldo is just weird, and Nemesis is just a big mindless thing that smashes through walls. I think you have to have some sort of deranged logic to qualify as pyschotic, not just be all--to steal a quote from BtVS--"Like to crush. Crush now?" But maybe that's just me. I don't know how the system works over there. If a bunch of fans deemed Nemesis the whackiest, who am I to disagree? But again, I'm happy Kefka's on the list at all. -------------------- Wilson: "That smugness of yours really is an attractive quality." House: "Thank you. the strange thing was that on the show they called it 6, wonder why they called it 3 on the website?

How is Kefka just above Wario?! That's annoying. I mean...I'd vote the Titan from FFI above Wario, just because he eats rubies.
...I would almost go as far as saying Garland is above Wario and some of those on the list. Really. Kefka being below some of those entries is a joke. Did you have to vote on who would be on the list? If so, then I can see why...most of the people nowadays hardly even know who Kefka is...they're far too obsessed with the modern games with better graphics and such. One of my closest friends refuses to even look at a SNES game (heck, even a PSX game, anymore!) because the graphics are so "bad". People like that wouldn't know who Kefka is, therefore, wouldn't be able to vote for him. -------------------- Is PJ |

I don't know enough about Kefka's competetors to say "Kefka ought to have been # 3 on that list" or something like that... (Although I do know Nintendo Power called Nemisis an insane Kool-Aid man, so I guess that must merit him a pretty high ranking) But I'm suprised Maester Seymour was above Kefka. It's all about the hair. You know it. Kefka is probably kicking himself for going for a simple ponytail rather than pigtails.

That's one of the reasons I don't like to watch many shows on G4 other than X-Play and, on occasion, Icons. I actually haven't watched anything on it at all in months. It's not 'cause of the votes, as anyone's entitled to their opinion (even if it isn't sufficiently influenced, which tends to be the case), but 'cause the hosts and makers of the shows in general seem to be a li'l on the ignorant side a lotta the times. The show Filter is a big offender there; I dunno how many times both the host and the people they interview have spewed blantantly false information or 'trivia', but don't care enough to check their sources before airing it. If I were them, I'd be frequently embarrassed. A Final Fantasy-based example is this: on one of their shows (not sure which), someone made the comment that FFVII was the first to have chracter dialogue. Laugh it up, everyone. I sure did.
And I've also wondered when they'd start calling this game by the correct name. They're gonna be in for it when that game called 'Final Fantasy III' comes out on the DS. As for the topic at hand, yeah, that's a joke. But then, just browsing G4 boards will make it clear why these people aren't familiar with some of these characters. And Maester Seymour??? He was a more conservetively calm, collected, Winnie the Pooh-voiced and tone-downed version of Kefka, so how the heck does that make him more nutty? There are plenty of perfectly WORTHY characters out there who coulda been put high on that list instead. Sad... -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Seymour is number three? Kratos is number two? Oh my God, please. That is ridiculous. First of all, Kratos is just like every action hero ever. He just has a weird hairdo and gets possessed by Ares and kills his family. Standard Greek mythology stuff.
And Seymour? That just makes me laugh. First of all, he doesn't have 1/10th of the coolness necessary to pull off his name. You know all the Guado are calling him "Mr. Butts" behind his back. And secondly, psychotic? Why, because he wanted to marry Yuna? Unbelievable. Kefka is number one. Sephiroth, gotta give him credit, should be on there somewhere. Id is pretty darn psychotic. And so forth. EDIT: Okay, Kratos killed his family without being possessed. But he's still more of the "battle-mad" variety than the "mental patient" variety. This post has been edited by L. Quote (L. Cully) And secondly, psychotic? Why, because he wanted to marry Yuna? Unbelievable. Wanted to? He did marry Yuna. That would mean he HAS to be crazy, granted, but so is a friend of mine - a restless, "fight the machine!!" type - who married a sleazy lawyer, and I don't see her on that list! -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. I don't recognize a lot of the characters on that list, but Kefka should outrank the ones that I do recognize. Seymour was psychotic, sure--he wanted to destroy the world, etc., etc. But Kefka wanted to destroy the world, and he called people things like "son of a submariner" and demanded that his stormtroopers remove sand from his boots while standing in the desert. He makes Seymour look like a normal politician.

Tsk,tsk,tsk.
Who decided the order of that list? Seymour and Voldo shouldn't even be on it! Seymour isn't psychotic, he's just a psycho-wannabe. And Voldo, he wasn't psychotic at all. He was just a little too much on the, well, disturbing side. Kefka should have really been one of the top three on the list. Albedo (Xenosaga) deserved a spot on there as well, if not one of the top spots. -------------------- Music is a mysterious thing... I second that wise saying.
Most people do not consider other voting options, they just ignore them. As for me, I only vote in that kind of poll if I know what I'm talking about. If only it was the same for eveyone else... but it's far from being the case. Maybe some of the voter should check the defenition of the word psychotic because it doesn't even fit win the winner of that top 10 -------------------- Sayonara |

I'm surprised more people aren't just happy to see Kefka on the list. While Kefka could easily be moved up a couple spots, I, personally, think that seymour deserved a spot on that list as well.
Don't get me wrong, Kefka was phsycotic, I'm jsut sticking up for Seymour here. Kefka was laughable phsycotic, much like the clowns he imitates oh so well. He wanted to destroy the world so he could have ultimate power over everyone.Seems to be a justifiable reason. Seymour, on the other hand, tricked you into thinking he was cool, and then ended up forcing your true love to marry him so he could use her to destroy spira, which he thought woule be "Saving it". That seems a bit less justified. The only two who don't belong on that list are wario (In what way was he phsycotic?) or Kratos (He was trying to SAVE his famliy because he was tirkced into killing them. Seems noble to me.) Voldo might be moved off the list because he was more weird than phsycotic. At least he was moreso than wario. Quote (L. Cully) He just has a weird hairdo and gets possessed by Ares and kills his family. Standard Greek mythology stuff. Not to burt your bubble or anything, but Kratos was bald. Even in the cinimatics of the past. Don't see how that qualifies him for having a "wierd hairdo". -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. Villains who want to destroy everything so they can control it and in so doing "save" it are pretty common. Think Possible spoilers: highlight to view from Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. It all comes down to arrogance and control issues. In any case, that doesn't really seem to be "psychotic." Seymour certainly wasn't deluded about the way things would be if he were in charge. There's really no excuse for Albedo not being on there, since Xenosaga is a fairly new franchise (compared to FF anyway), but I can see how people wouldn't know about Id. That seems a bit less justified. I dunno about that. Seymour sure didn't trick me into thinking he was cool. Maybe he meant all that from Tidus' eyes? I'm not Tidus (and thank all the gods for that), so I'm quite sure Seymour wasn't exploiting my "true love". Then again, even Tidus never thought the guy was remotely cool, despite how he shouldn't really be the one to talk there. Kefka, though, was just nilhistic. While I can identify with that point-of-view (no, I don't have a laser beam aimed at the moon or anything), he was plain insane 'bout it. The whole "negate existance 'cause that's how it'll all end up anyway and murder the masses 'cause they'll all die anyway" way of thinking is pretty nutty, I'd say. But like I said, they're a boatload of characters who coulda taken that list - most of which aren't even on it. And while Seymour probably does deserve to be recognized as a moderate psycho, I don't see anything in the dude that warrants him such a high spot. I would say it's just a popularity contest (most of these things are), but I never thought Seymour was all that liked either. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Meh, Luca Blight is FAR too obscure for the audience that G4 caters to. I've played each of those characters' games besides Torque, but I disagree with that list in several places.
I'm happy that Kefka was on the list, even if I felt he should have been higher. Kratos is not a bad pick for the top ten, but I would not put him second overall. Seymour shouldn't be on the list. Nemesis definitely contends for number one, as do Psycho Mantis and Kefka. Baraka and Voldo aren't bad choices, but neither should be as high as they are. I have to agree that Wario and Alice are good picks who are well-placed, but they are alone in that classification. Two characters that I would have put on such a list are M. Bison from Street Fighter and Sephiroth from FF VII, for various reasons. -------------------- |

Luca Blight would probably win "most evil bastard," but when I think "psychotic" I think: is insane, is homocidal, is nihilistic, but does it in style and has a DAMN FUN TIME WITH IT. I think Kefka would be "villain most likely to end up in a padded cell somewhere," hence why I think he's most psychotic. Or darn close to it.

Well, even though Kefka was in 9th place, I was happy that he was in the in vote. I was like: "All right! Kefka made the list! FF6 gots some props!" But I think Kefka should had gotten at least 5th place or so.

I share all of your frustration. I play Soul Calibur 2 alot and Voldo is no where near psychotic.Just because your a 50 year old man in a bondage suit who's moveset is made up of humping the grounds and your enemies while growling doesn't make you psychotic just stupid. If anyone from Soul Calibur series should be on that list it should be Cervantes, Astaroth or Nightmare and to lesser Extent Rapheal. Seymour.
Cervantes Possible spoilers: highlight to view Picked up two evil swords killed his crew and everyone in his port town and killed his opponents in a savage way. And when he gets resurrected he could let Soul Edge go. But he gets up to his old tricks and it getting closer to his goal Astaroth Possible spoilers: highlight to view He was created psychotic, he even says you all look the same to me. He's a killing machine, Kefka would surely want him on his side Nightmare Possible spoilers: highlight to view Was nuts before became Nightmare, When he became Nightmare started massacres like you wouldn't believe. Sure the human side wanted out but Soul Edge wanted the souls and now that Nightmare and Seigfried split in two. Expect Nightmare to be just as his name. Rapheal Possible spoilers: highlight to view Wants to use Soul Edge to end everyones pathetic useless lies so he and his daughter can live in peace. Tell me thats not psychotic Honorable mention Tira Possible spoilers: highlight to view New Character but look at her, you know shes nuts Voldo Possible spoilers: highlight to view Only seeks Soul Edge because its his masters last wish, he's a freak but not psychotic I rest my case. |
