It would definetly add emotion to the battle.

Maybe you could have one of the girls get in their weak positions (crouching down or whatever) and be all like "Fudge, I broke a nail", or have Relm try to sketch, and be like "Dang it, I'm ou of paint!" or something.

EDIT: Make this the new Celes ---> user posted image user posted image

And make this the new Mog ----> user posted image

I dunno, something random wacko.gif

John: So you don't want your screen saver to come on for another four hours?
Me: Where does it say that?
John: Here where it was 240 minutes.
Me: Is that four hours?
John: Yeah, 60 X 4.
Me: Is that four hours, though?
John: ....They'll never take you back in school.

This surely won't be possible because palettes have specific colours and would surely come out really bad. He could be able to get these sprites correctly (with appropirate colours), but all the other characters using the same palette in the game would have their colours messed up.

Plus, if he doesn't have every sprite for a character, he would need to create them, and I don't think it's Caesar's priority.

There's the matter of size, too. You can't just randomly stuff sprites of any size and shape into a ROM and expect to get away with it. wink.gif

Zodiac pretty much had my response nailed word-for-word. Thanks! thumbup.gif

Please no more ideas for characters. I already have too many suggestions for them as-is, and not enough to spriters to make them all. Spell animations are preferred at this moment.

Note that I will still accept other ideas, but don't expect them to be finished anytime soon. happy.gif

This hack is looking better every day. Mulitple spell animations depending on status, new characters, new techniques... Caesar, you are worthy of your title. All hail Caesar!

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. I had a few personal matters to take care of, but those are all taken care of now.

Anyways, I haven't worked on the alternate animations at all yet, and I haven't even completed my Monk SCC, either. What a waste. I did, however, perfect the Caesar battle. He had a nasty AI if you actually uesd a strategy, but it turns out you could just plow through him by attacking and win the battle. Therefore, I made him even trickier. I'm not going to worry about spoiling the strategy, since it is necessary to beat him now, and he's still very difficult, even with knowing how to defeat him.

Since he uses all 8 elements frequently (and several dual-element attacks such as Antipode, Volcano, Scorcher, and others), Forcefield must be used to nullify most of his attacks. After it is used a certain number of times (I'll leave it up to you all to figure this part out), he can finally be defeated, but he adds a devilish attack to his script (come on...you all know which one I threw in there). Don't think about just attacking for the battle without using Forcefield, since I will tell you right now, his HP is an infinite loop that only turns off after using Forcefield a few times.

Anyways, he's nasty now, and I think I'm going to give him APOCALYPSE AMMO as a rare steal or a common drop. Not sure yet. It will be acquired from defeating him somehow, though. I have a crazy idea for the ammo, but I don't think it's possible, nor practical. I will definitely make it worth the time needed to get it, though.

This all looks insanely good, just a question though, have you figured out a complete list for the ammo? I haven't read the entire thread for a while, so I was curious about the ammo, and what it could do. happy.gif

No, shame on you for posting without knowing what you're talking about. And if Sailor Moon is denigrated as 'kiddy anime' (sic), why would you express approval at seeing one of the characters used for Celes?

It's okay, let it go. I'm actually quite certain Caesar is no longer looking for sprites, and therefore the point is moot.

Thank you, R51. thumbup.gif

I am no longer looking for sprites, as he clearly stated. Please no more requests for sprites. They take the most work out of anything, except maybe a huge custom animation (Knights of the Round).

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. As for the ammo, I currently have the following: Bullet, Beam Clip, MechGunRounds, Cannonball, and Soul Shot. I do, however, plan to have Shotgun Cartridge as another ammo, and I plan to experiment with APOCALYPSE AMMO, once RuneLancer and I have some time to seriously discuss some options when we know exactly what is possible. The 6 I mentioned are completely finished, aside from the pricing, and the other two need only animations and stats, which should not be difficult to do at all.

As for "what it could do"...well, I have a feeling you won't be disappointed. Liek I said before, once RL sit down and work out the details for APOCALYPSE AMMO, you can expect some nasty, nasty effects. I'm talking an attack that will deal multiple rounds of 9999 damage, ignoring defense, breaking your weapon, possibly breaking the earth, maybe even eliminating the caster for good. Of course, you can only obtain one or two of these, so you can basically just save it for the final boss when Shadow is no longer needed.

Any furthur suggestions for alternate animations are appreciated, and I would be happy to answer any questions like the one Lionfart asked, if any of you have any you would like answered. happy.gif

Unfortauntely, no. The "branch if weak" command hasn't been working properly, so i can't do much there. I'm going to crop omnislash, so that's finished now. I'm waiting on the damage command and the branch.

Band camp started Monday, so I don't have much free time anymore. Once I get into a routine once again, I should be fine to get back to work. I dunno when RL has time to program some functions again, but that also comes into play.

Well, the bad news is that I've started my own hack recently, which both cuts back and adds to the amount of time I can spend developping stuff. I'm not going to use Caesar's thread to plug it by talking about how I'm dropping the esper system in favor of a equipment/spell affinity system and will be completely rehauling the game for over 5 dungeons' worth of gameplay, using custom sprites for everything, and introducing completely new game mechanics, as that would be rude. wink.gif But I will say that I plan on having a heavy amount of assembly hacks, many of which I'll be making available to Caesar.

Yeah, the branch on status command will be one of the hacks in question. I'm going to put a lot of effort in battle commands because Caesar's hack has what I can only dare call the most complete and impressive amount of battle animation hacks. Well, to be fair, the only real hack with animation hacks, but I can't see it being beaten by anyone in the near future. wink.gif

The problem is as follows: I'm in the process of moving. Now, between packing stuff, my job, and moving boxes over there, I find myself putting a lot of effort in getting other projects to progress. My 65816 emulator is one such project, and its main purpose is to gather information on various assembly routines in the game. Sadly, ES has been put on hold. And the amount of time I can spend on my hack is very limited.

The good news is as follows: I have a week off next week. By then I should be settled in. And I'll be working full-time to catch up on everything I've had to put aside to score some free time to complete the whole moving business: Caesar's requests, Endless Saga, and sorting out my porn collection. I mean developement programs. For ROMs and stuff. Yeah.

The bad news is that I won't have internet access then for a little while, which means I'm not sure when I'll be able to send Caesar the hacks. I'd say a month or so. I'm not fully certain, though.

I should have a few of Caesar's requests covered by next week, but I also won't have internet access by then. Oops? My mother, who has my old PC, will, however, and I might be able to send a few things through her to him. So it all works out in the end.

Awesome! That sounds great. I'm sure you are happy to hear that I'm cropping Omnislash. I dropped the whole timed thing at the end, since I had to do so much nesting and overlapping of commands to get it right, and applying the damage command would throw it all off.

Whenever I get them is fine. thumbup.gif

Well, now that my 65816 emulator works (wow... an SNES assembly emulator in one week. I've outdone myself. happy.gif ) I can easily give any bit of assembly code a test run and figuring out where the info I need is shouldn't be as hard as it was anymore. I can just tweak my code to include a few checkpoints that get triggered when a certain address is written to and let it run for a little while.

Free time's what's been holding me back. :/

First there were the Wright Brothers...

Now we've got Caesar and Silverlance.

Just something that occured to me, Caesar, you're going to do some event scripting right? Just out of curiousity... how are you going to sort out the whole Sabin being replaced by the Ghost thing? If the Ghost is still Sabin, I mean, I haven't read all 25 pages for a while. tongue.gif

Events and plot are the very last thing I will do. Just 'cause I have no clue where to being changing stuff. happy.gif

When the time comes for me to change events, I'll figure a way to make Ghost Sabin fit. If not, then it's up to the player to determine what happened to him.

it would be interesting to make it that vargas killed sabin instead of duncan
and duncan dissapeared for reasons unknown
or vargas killed sabin and duncan
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
(which we know duncan doesn't really die)

and then make the sabin vs. vargas battle about payback

and then when they are on the ghost train make the fact that sabin is dead have something to do with the train locking them on

I think Kefka will have to play a role in his death. A ghost wouldn't stay around after his death unless to get revenge, right? We can't have Vargas be the final boss, and we can't lose Sabin BEFORE the final battle, so therefore, Kefka must've killed him or his family or Duncan or somebody. I dunno.

I'll figure it out when the time comes. happy.gif

When I was away this weekend, I was inspired to create a new animation: Fireworks! I don't know if it'll be a desperation attack or alternate animation, but I'll throw in in somewheres, don't you worry.

Why not have the fireworks be used in a cutscene? Introductory scene or ending would be a nice place to put 'em.

I'm a sad programmer. My PC won't have internet access anymore for about a month in two days. Deadline for my hack aside, this means the amount of help I can provide Caesar with is dwindling. (On a side note, if it hasn't already be done, change the 0xA0 0x10 from F1:005C to 0xA0 0x01. I dunno if it'll help do anything with the On Status Jump command, but it'll DEFINATELY help, seeing as it was pointing to code at F1:10A0 instead of F1:01A0... oops. :x ) In other words, you're on your own for about a month. wink.gif Then again, this hack was started without any assembly hacks, so I figure it shouldn't be too much of a problem for him. I'll still have internet access at work, at least.

If the above didn't fix the on status branch command, IM me or post saying so. I'll go all-out and Make. It. Work! ™ tomorrow. I'll be busy disassembling furniture and stuff, but in a worse case scenario I'll be able to get some work done during the night. Then wednesday afternoon, the PC goes off and I say buh-bye to my current ISP (and hewwo to my new home.)

Alright, I'll give that a try, RuneLancer. Hey, if all else fails, I could always just work on some "branch if esper" animations.

Imagine the impossible-to-execute animations that could be made. "If you use Cecil's desperation attack with Odin equipped with the near fatal status while berserked, then the alternate animation plays!"

....ok so I'm not THAT mean, but I could change a few animations anyways.

Edit
I found something to occupy my time while I'm waiting for the commands to work. I have been changing Golbez's palette around and finally got one that makes him look sorta decent. Now I can import his graphics and he'll be almost complete. Awesome!

sleep.gif

A few changes here and there. Waiting on RuneLancer for a few commands before I finish off the animations; I'm not putting the delay of changes and such off on him, since it's really my fault I haven't been doing much. Once I get into the hacking mood, I should get a lot done.

After the animations, really all that's left is just some bugfixing, housekeeping, and some graphics stuff. Not too much left.

Goodwill bump.

I've read this entire thread, and I say, God Damn.

Dude.

You've *got* to finish this thing.

Housekeeping? No probs. I'll clean your house. Hell, I'll even do the dishes. As long as you're in there finishing up the hack, I'll be out in the living room with the Swiffer. You just say when.

All right.

Haha. Thanks for the props, Dr. Salt. thumbup.gif I do intend to finish it; it's just fixing up some things I really couldn't care less about doing (blah...graphics importation, renaming stuff, thinking of a new event to have Umaro join).

You really read all 25 pages?! That's nasty. blink.gif Congratulations!
