Emu obsessed person needs a good list of SNES ROMs

I have recently been a slave to my emulator. Besides work I have found myself doing little else; I've been ignoring my friends and family for a long time and here's my problem: I've run out of ROMs! ohmy.gif

If I don't get pointed in the direction of anymore good SNES ROMs something crazy could happen; I may be forced to speak to my family and friends again and if I do that I will most likely have to explain why I have (seemingly) dropped off the face of the earth. O, the possible awkwardness! unsure.gif ...

Anyway, I have been playing Star Ocean 2, Romancing Saga, Mario RPG, all SNES FFs, Harvest Moon and Secret of Mana.

If you fine people would be so kind as to point in the direction of other SNES rpgs (Japanese of otherwise. I'm sure I can find a decent translation patch.) or any other game that might be interesting; I would be so grateful. Please help so that I may continue to avoid having to meaningfully communicate with my friends and family.

Robotrek never fails to keep my occupied. I think there was another recent thread about good SNES games. Anything on there is good.

You might want to check out Chrono Trigger first (one of the best RPGs ever for SNES), then Robotrek, and then Legend of Zelda; a Link to the Past. Those three should keep you busy enough such that you don't have to spend time on other useless things like communicating.

Best of luck! happy.gif

I've just downloaded Robotrek and played it for an hour or so and I must say that it seems pretty absorbing. I very much like the robot customization and the battles. I have Chrono Trigger and LoZ:LTTP on my regular SNES. Both are great games biggrin.gif . Thank you for the suggestion and I am really liking Robotrek. I would also be interested to see any other suggestions on good SNES ROMs.

Get the Star Ocean ROM. It's an excellent RPG with one of the best battle systems out there, IMO.

I stared at this subject header for a good sixty seconds before figuring out emu = emulation. I was like, what on earth have emus got to do with roms? (Emus are a type of bird. Or so I thought. I'm not sure.)

We're happy to tell you games that you should play on your emulator, but suggesting where to get them is not something we do here. Sorry, Shinryu. -R51

As for suggestions, what else could I suggest but the classics? Bahamut Lagoon, Seiken Densetsu III, Der Langrisser... you know, the best games for the SNES that we never got on cartridges.

what on earth have emus got to do with roms?

The crossbreeding of an Emu (flightless bird) with a Super Nintendo as an arduous, yet, rewarding task. The hard part is getting the Emus to grow controllers. It takes years of evolution, believe me. The other hard part is trying to sneak into the Emu ranch down the road to carry out these experiments without getting shot wink.gif . Then when you are actually playing your ROMs getting them to stand still is also quite difficult, I would generally recomend using...er...Emu food(?) for this task...

Actually, go get a life.

Seriously. I'm a slowly and uncomfortably recovering computer addict, and I know it.

If you've been playing some of the better RPGs, such as FFVI, I should hope you've been inspired to bring greatness to this world. Writing or literary studies? Politics or activism? Music composition? Drama?

But seriously. FFTA and Castlevania HoD worked wonders at clouding my mind out of my studies in college and ruining my grades. Seriously, get off the computer. There are a crikeyload of excellent SNES games out there, but I won't start saying what they are, because if you're an addict, you shouldn't be playing. There is no equivalent in this problem to a nicotine patch, unfortunately. (I've tried that idea, but to no avail.)

And now I'm going to get myself off the computer and go to sleep, since it's WAY past my permissible bedtime.

When did this become an intervention?

C'mon, man just one more ROM...one more, please. I promise I'll quit next week. No really, I do talk to my friends and family more than I let on. 'Twas simply an entertaining way to ask for game suggestions. But talking to your friends and family can become a drag and I need ROMs to get me through. I've gotten some very good suggestions and enough games to occupy me for quite awhile, thank you very much.

Oh, and thank you for your concern Glenn Magus Harvey and your purple magic. smile.gif I've got a brand spanking new BFA in Theatre that I'm trying to find a use for. I'm still figuring out my roll in the whole bringing greatness to the world thing...Cheers!

Might I suggest:
Live-A-Live
Monstania
Paladins Quest
Nosferatu
Secret of Mana
Seiken Dentsu 3
Tactics Ogre
Terranigma
Secret of Evermore
Shadowrun
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Tales of Phantasia
Magic Knight Rayearth

they are all "fun" though some are a little too easy

How do you play Tactics Ogre on Super Famicom since there's no translation? Do you recommend it just for the gameplay then? If so, tell me how to navigate the menus. I'm just curious that game is tossed in there, maybe you mean Ogre Battle: March for the Black Queen?

Most of the following is turn-based strategy, it's what I've been busy with the past 10 months.

For RPGs:
Shin Megami Tensei I
Shin Megami Tensei II
Romancing Saga 3 (not sure if you meant you played that or RS1 or RS2)
Star Ocean
Rudra no Hihou

For Tactics/strategy:
Front Mission
Super Robot Wars 3

For japanese-only:
Emerald Dragon
Majin Tensei 2
Super Robot Wars 4
Super Robot Wars EX
Super Robot Wars Gaiden: Masoukishin Lord Elemental

Lost Vikings 1 and 2. Fun puzzle games, though they get a bit repetative. If you push your way through some of the boring parts, you'll get back into fun levels.

Duel Orb 2: Actually.... this RPG really wasn't that good.... It was a change... something new... But not really alot going on in it. Short RPG, decent story. Very little variaty (not really any sidequests, most charecters have 1, maybe 2 different weapons throughout the game, though you can upgrade them to make them more powerful.) Graphics were nice though. Kinda a Breath of Fire feel to the battles. Some parts of the game, you'll hit bosses very overpowered, but you spend 15 minutes leveling up, and it becomes much easier.

Lufia 2: Great, GREAT RPG. One of my favorites. Fun, long game. Bonus Dungon is fun to try and get through. A challange. Very well balanced game too. (Note: Lufia 1 is alright, could never push my way through it, and there is another Lufia for GBA out there. Tried that one too, it was okay.... never beat it either)

Dragon Quest (Warrior) 5 and 6: Both fun, if you enjoyed the Dragon Warrior series.

Treasure of Rudra (Rudra no Hihou): Decent RPG made by Square. Not great, so not suprised it didn't make it to US. Some people like it, some don't. You can decide yourself.

A couple ideas thrown out there that noone mentioned. Not any of the mainstream stuff that alot of people know.

Alot of what mcclanahan said are good too, though some of them I've never tried, and plan on doing so now. He seems to have good taste.

Not RPGs, but they are my procrastination Holy Trinity:

Super Baseball 2020
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
and of course, Tetris Attack.

Apologies if any of them have been mentioned.

I don't know if this was mentioned already, but the Lufia series is pretty decent from what I hear. Otherwise, you can try Breath of Fire 1 and 2 from Capcom/Square, I heard those were fairly good.

I can't really think of any others offhand, but hey, have you ever thought of other platforms? I'm quite fond of the original four Phantasy Star games for Master System and Genesis: I think they'd be worth looking at. biggrin.gif

Terranigma
Tales of Phantasia
Seiken Densetsu III
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Turtles in Time
Mega Man X1, 2, and 3
Super Castlevania IV
Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu (the only SNES one you can find in English...)
Kirby Super Star
