A while ago I posted how Setzer's scars were airship-crash-inflicted, nothing how it said so in the FF VI Ultimania Guide, a Japanese strategy guide with quite some merit. Some one here questioned the source. I asked around, and this is what I came up with, via-via.
The guy who has translated the text is Chinese, I've heard, which is the reason for his often odd spelling. I thought you might like the link, as there is quite a few bits of information that even I didn't know, which should tip you off as how awesome it in fact is ![]() Have fun. -------------------- |

I knew a good bit of that already, but the brief Figaro history is quite interesting. So are the nut eaters Sabin hates supposed to be monsters now? 'Cause I always thought it meant people who eat nuts...
And if this is truly from a FF6 Ultimania guide (plus FF4 and FF5), how come all information about it/them has seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth? Serious question, honest! I've searched several times, for hours on end (dang, that's sad), just hoping to find something and never found anything remotely Ultimania-related prior to FF8. And everybody else, except you know who, seems to be under the same impression, as on some boards I've witnessed people pretty much laughed at for thinking those guides were around before the late, late 90's. I just figured that the guides similar to Ultimania that have been translated and their info posted here recently was all there were. Regardless of the alleged guide's obscurity to, like, everyone, thanks very much for the link. ![]() -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Yes, Sabin likes nuts and dislikes Nuteaters. First I thought they were simply people who ate nuts Sabin wanted, but FF V has a Nut Eater in it:
http://www.videogamesprites.net/FinalFanta...es/Nuteater.gif It's a weak enemy you meet in the first instances of the game. Has auto-Regen, probably because he's snacking while he's fighting ![]() I think so few people know about Ultimania because it's a Japanese magazine; you need a guy who reads and writes both English and Japanese to translate it for you. Japanese/English people who love this game enough to type out that kind of stuff are pretty rare, I'd imagine. Plus, you can Google all you want, but you won't find Japanese pages when you enter 'FF VI Ultimania' or something along those lines. Me, I have the tendency to trust the sources in question, but I offer no guarantees. For instance, the fact that this guy can't translate Sabin's 'like' while what is supposed to go there (nuts) fits perfectly with the rest of his info pursuaded me ![]() -------------------- |

Ah, THOSE nut eaters. That makes sense.
I read through the entire topic (well, skimming mostly through irrelevant info) and didn't see the poster list his source. Could it be possible that this info came from the Creation Data Collection guides that Shiva Indis has, or some variant? I mean, quite a few people out there are well familiar with collecting Ultimania guides and translated/post scans from them on several websites. But these are the same people, mostly, who claim they don't exist for FF's 1-7. And don't worry; my search terms have only become 'FFVI Ultimania' when I've been desperate. ![]() Well, back on-topic, Edgar's a freakin' perv. Though I'm sure that surprises no one. I figured he'd left Relm be after his semi-pedophilic moment in Thamasa. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. That...is a whole lot of awesome (omg, concept!Locke is so cool it's not even funny).
But what I'm wondering about is why only the twins have a timeline. I'm kinda pleased it doesn't impede on my own ideas, but still, I'm very curious about everyone else's history. But anyway, thanks so much for the link! ::bookmarks it:: -------------------- Wilson: "That smugness of yours really is an attractive quality." House: "Thank you. I really wonder why Locke hates mushrooms? There is no quote in the game that mentioned about mushrooms.

Quote I really wonder why Locke hates mushrooms? There is no quote in the game that mentioned about mushrooms. I always wondered that, too. I just assume it's an allergy or something, or maybe there's some elaborate (IE, imaginary) backstory about how he stupidly ate some poisonous mushrooms while out travelling, and got really sick. That'd probably dampen his liking quite a bit. -------------------- Wilson: "That smugness of yours really is an attractive quality." House: "Thank you. It was either that or get my hair highlighted. I liked the part about
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Sabin, only sharing his middle name with Gau and Cyan I thought that was pretty cool especially how important a middle name is to the figaro family -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

What I loved was how
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Edgar gave his middle name to Relm after she explained she can Control monsters because she knows their names. That's basically pointing two index fingers at a 10-year old girl and going 'You can control ME any time, baby". This post has been edited by Djibriel on 15th August 2005 21:26 -------------------- |

Yeah, maybe this explains why there are a lot of Edgar x Relm shippers in the Japanese fandom. ::vomit:: -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. That's interesting. I have a strategy guide back at my old man's place that listed the exact same info, but I was pretty sure the authors were pulling it from their asses because there was nothing elsewhere supporting it.
A few notes, from what I can remember. I'll give it a look next time I go there. Sabin: What he disliked were actually chestnuts in my guide. As for what he liked, I don't remember. Some steamed plate of sorts, I think? Shadow: I think his "likes" bit is his dog. Not 100% sure, I was in highschool when I last read this thing. ![]() That's all I can remember. It also had a short timeline of the events before the game took place (none of it mentions the Sabin/Edgar bits, and frankly some of that sounds like it goes a little against the in-game storyline.) I'll make a grab for it next time I'm there and post what I have. The cover was black and had a sword with a dragon as the cross-piece, and it was quite thick. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

He doesn't really mean that he'll marry that little girl in Figaro castle when she gets older, it's just something to say to make her feel flattered. That said, in this case, I still find it creepy. Though this is the FF VI section, I had a question.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view How do they not know where Rydia grows up? I thought it would be rather obvious, Mist/Land of Summoned Monsters, or they could just say underworld. Or was that bit unconfirmed? This is quite interesting, I had no idea that Terra was designed to be male. It is also interesting that Strago was/is married, on the concept art, is he wearing a ring? What I thought was strange was that they refered to Gogo as 'him'. I thought Square Soft never confirmed this? -------------------- Could you repeat that? |
