it amounts to this. while cid simply says "bring me some fish, i'm about out of energy", you can get him killed by bringing him the wrong fish. There are 3 kinds of fish (though the rare item menu claims there is four, it is wrong), the rotten fish is the slowest fish in the water. DO NOT feed them to cid; it will make him feel worse, and thus increase his chance of dying by about 50% (depends on how long youve fed him that kind). then there is a regular fish. it moves moderately fast, and heals him slightly. The fastest moving fish are 'yummy fishes' these will heal him dramatically. but dont know what to do when he replies after youve fed him? it works like this:
If you feed him, he will say one of a few things: "My worst nightmare is to leave you alone on this island!" -Worst possible state "I'm not long for this new, cruel world." - Not very good state (starting point) "I can't bear this any longer." -He's getting a little better "Cough...HACK! I feel a little better!" He's getting much better I may have left out one thing he said, but that is the general guidelines.. If you keep giving him bad fish, you will return to the house and find him dead, but he will leave a letter behind. read the letter and get out of there. However, if you manage to keep him alive, he will be grateful, thank you, and you will be on your way off solitary island, and can revisit him any time afterwards, and there is an esper down by the shore if you return. I think that, what L Cully is trying to say is, you're not teaching old dogs new tricks here.
The Caves of Narshe have a walkthrough section. Considering all the stuff you've been posting, shouldn't you consider taking a trip down there and checking it out? -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

It's more dramatic to just let him die, it's not like he's crucial to the plot (and his yellow rain-slicker disturbs me).
Plus that way you Possible spoilers: highlight to view get the cliff scene, and have Celes be revived by a bird's regurgitated food (at least that's the only way I could figure out how she was saved by a frickin' seagull). |

I don't think the seagull revived her at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we see it land after the scene fades in, meaning it wasn't there until then? Sure it could've gone off to swallow more food and return, but that seems a li'l too bizzare even for a fantasy-themed game.
Either way, I always figured she screamed at it as such simply 'cause her suicide attempt didn't work out for her and it was the only thing around for her to blow off some steam at. And it did wake her up, so that's something to blame it for. This post has been edited by SilverFork on 3rd August 2005 07:48 -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. All this posting and no one has gaven the pour guy an answer?. I'll gladly tell you how save cid. When you go to get fish for the dying man catch only the fast ones then when you to you inventory and check "rare items" there should be some fish that read Fish: Good Fish: Rotten Fish:. If you only get the fast ones they should say good fish. Anyway feed him the good fish and he'll be fine. NOTE: If this does not work than your Psx/Snes is broken.

No offense, No-Name, but did you read the first post? No one gave him an answer 'cause he isn't asking.

Somewhat relevant.
To respond to the first "question" it isn't a secret that he can be saved, and neither are the means. The Esper, BTW is located on the island regardless of his status, in case the first post leads anyone to believe you need to save him to get it. The death scene is more dramatic and adds more to the story I think, but I usually mix up which one I do, same goes for Possible spoilers: highlight to view waiting for Shadow. |

I usually kill Cid because it's so much more dramatic that way, but oh man I feel sooooo bad when I do it, cause there are all those fast yummie fishies around and yet I go purposely searching for the slow rotten ones :X lol.

I find it interesting that you can catch rotten fish while they are in fact, still alive. Is this some form of rot that grows on living victims? Some new mutant strain of virus? Or are they just really, really gross tasting fish? You, the player decide!

There's absolutely no reason to feel remorse for killing Cid. To quote myself from the older topic:
Quote I always kill him. But as I've said before, by doing so I'm really saving him from living out the rest of his years alone with only one line of dialogue. It's not like anyone makes a point to go and get him, and if Gilligan's Island has taught me anything it's that unpopulated desert isles are horrible places (and no one wants to see Cid have a private luau complete with grass skirt to boost his spirits). He'd go crazy and befriend a volleyball named 'Wilson' before long. It's true. You know it's true. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. - Murphy’s Law Boing! It just occured to me, I never said it. Yes, I always keep Cid alive. I always hate it when he dies. Call me compassionate.
Besides, how much time do you think passes between Celes leaving and Setzer getting the airship? Maybe a week? A month, tops? You can bet if we weren't in control Celes would insist that they go back and pick up the poor guy. S'what I'd do, if I could. |

I just kill him. It takes way too much time and effort to keep him alive than I want to expend. Plus the fact that you get a better chain of events (Celes telling off the seagull comes to mind

This seems to be a copy of the 'Do you let Cid Live?' thread, but meh.
I usually killed him, because I used to never know how to save him, I just fed him whatever fish I got. (I always thought he died.) The story is better if you kill him anyway, and what Silverfork said -------------------- |
