will you be buying the ps3, xbox 360, or nintendo revolution?

just one rule: don't call people fanboys for their choice, because i did that once when i was having a bad day, and man if i didn't catch hell for it.

i will probably be buying the xbox 360. i've heard it will come out earlier than the others. it will have ffXIII so im guessing square-enix will be putting soon to come nubered ffs.
i don't have the first xbox, so i'll need the backwards compatability to play halo 2. i've played halo 1 for pc and it was great. the ps3 is going to be really expensive, so i'll probably stay away from that.

share your thoughts.

Actually, FFXIII isn't going to be for the 360, that's merely a rumor. FFXI is, however. But the real reason I'll be buying a 360 is for MISTWALKER, which I 100% believe will be the new Squaresoft. That and Halo 3, Perfect Dark 0, eNCHANT arM (have you heard of that? Looks really good), and the awesome Xbox Live.

If I can afford two systems, my next choice will be Ninty's Revolution, mostly because of the game downloads, but also because of... ONLINE SUPER SMASH BROTHERS HECK YEAH!

Edit
Oh, and how could I forget Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the 360? That game'll rock. That and Resident Evil 5.

I have both a PS2 and PS1 but i thinking of trying out the xbox 360, i have borrowed my friend's xbox before and most of those games were awesome (halo 2, Marrowwind, and a few others) a few reasons i would get the new xbox is.. halo 3, xbox live(hey its free for xbox 360 users) and probably a few others that i cant think of right now. I would get the PS3 but it just doesnt look promising to me. The new nintedo rev is gonna be cool but i just dont think it will be worth it i have the other nintedo systems anyway, so i dont see the point in me going and buying it to get older games that i already have.

See, I'm going to wait abit. I was originally going to buy a PS3, if only for FF, but now, the XBox 360 looks mighty tempting, with a superior release line-up, Mist Walker, and WoW. I'm honestly leaning towards it, and maybe a PS3 at a later date or simply buying the FF games and playing them on the PS3 I'm certain atleast one of my friends will buy.

The Nintendo Revolution is so freakin' tempting that it's gotta be my first choice. The big reasons being A.) Free online play, B.) Legal downloads and emulation of past 'Tendo games (and possibly some older 3rd-party games from their past systems) and the quasiessential C.) Backwards compatability. That 'n' their peaked-at lineup gets me all giddy like schoolgirl.

The PS3's my second choice for many of my much-loved series that will continue to stay Sony-exclusives or 360/PS3 multiplatformal. Since I normally do end up purchasing two consoles each gen, I guess I can say I'm anticipating what all it has in store.

The new X-Box, in all truth, sounds to me like it's gonna be better than the first one, and perhaps even (hopefully) have a ton more exclusives I'm actually interested in. Doesn't mean I'll buy one, as I'd have to decide between it and the PS3. At the very least sometime, somewhere down the line, when it's become cheap and obsolete, I'll likely consider getting into it and its games.

I myself will be getting a XBox 360 and then a Revolution. I'm talking games here, folks. Exclusives. PS3 doesnt have any that interest me. With Squarenix going to 360, there's no longer a reason for me to own a PS3. Rev's a given, of course. lol

I would defenitely get the revolution then the 360, but never the PS3

The revolution's back-compatability and free wi-fi from home is plenty of convincing, and the 360 having squenix and 'Halo 3', the PS3, and inevitably the PS2, hold no place in my game (and watch) gallery (LOL)

P.S.: when did squenix announce to join with Micro.? i never thought that they would join them, despite the possibilities. Revolution wouldve been a better choice. But they are also with Nintendo too because the DS is releasing final fantasy remakes and wi-fi supported games.

I will not buy the 360, no matter what games they make for it and what it can do. I hate Microsoft. If I'm going to temporarily cripple myself by switching to a unix-based system just to kill Windows, I'm certainly not going to turn around and help them with their attempts to monopolize another area. Besides, they want to move console gaming online, and I'm completely opposed to that. I like paying for something once, thanks.

I'm planning on buying the PS3, and it would take something unexpected to stop me from doing so (like, Squenix and Konami both deciding to shun Sony forever). This decision is based primarily on the fact that the PS2 worked out well for me.

I might wind up with a Revolution, too. This will be mostly dependent on exactly how they work out downloading old games, and which titles are available. If Secret of Mana is available for download, I will buy a Revolution.

Considering I have a game cube and a PS2 right now I think I'll stick on the same track and buy a Revolution and a PS3. And as for X-Box I hope they stop trying to dominate everything and go back to computers.

I'm definelty getting a PS3 at some point, and most probably a revolution*, but that's mainly down to the fact I 'm thinking more in the terms of Backwards compatability. Really, the newer consoles have very little to offer other than that they fufill the same role as the old consoles I have and hopefully will offer the same kind of games I played on them, and sequels to games I own.

I don't intend to buy an XBox 360, but for all my japing and mocking of it, It's got as much to offer as the others really, except the crucial factor of letting me play my old games. I'm not too bothered about online, couldn't have a care about graphics, and Microsoft would need to either pay me to take one or offer me my dream game(1) or some similar unlikely event.

I'll buy the Revolution for the novelty, of course. If all the things they say about it are true, it's going to be all sorts of awesome, for reasons stated numerous times above.

Because Sony has such a great track record going into the battle, I'll have to stick with the PS3 as well. Impressive specs and backwards compatability are proven assets.

The X-box 360 has yet to impress me on any level. Though it is a solid machine by any standards, it doesn't have the mysterious creativity of the Revolution or the rabid hype of the PS3. Hopefully someone around me will buy one, so I can try it out.

i dont want 360 cause i dont like microsoft either, and since halo was really the only decent game for xbox that's another reason to not get it. i just hope square doesnt start makin games for it or else i'll have to buy it and feel like i'm wasting my money. maybe they will make their games for the 360 and the ps3 or something.

you ppl can argue all about that stuff i am gettin a 360 becasue the 360 has backwards compatibility but i own ps2 xbox and the cube so i will get em all eventually but ffx11 is comin out for the ps3 the release date is march 16 2006 in japan so we probly will c it about fall 2006 so about a year folks so it problly will be ps3. i cannot say anything bout square goin to micro but i hope it does tongue.gif and the xbox 360 will have mor room on the hard drive then the x box so i wont have to buy memory cards like ps2 and game cubes at 40$ a peice and needing 2 memory cards lol and the rev being able to downloading games i think is a crock of hot and steamy bull crap just think about it ppl think good and hard lol and what does the ps3 offer lol when ps2 came out it was like 800$ i almost crapped my pants then 2 years later when it was 200$ i bought it lol but i would reccomend xbox 360 becasue the xbox blew me away and was mad that this was the last of the 3 systems that i got and the cube was the worst super smash bros sucks i think
and there would have to be a limit to how many games u can have but if i am wrong and u can dl games and u dont have to have high speed internet then i might just for chrono trigger but my snes still works and i have good games for it so i am happy:P

i heard that sony will lose $100(us) on every ps3 they sell because they put too much money making it. this could be either good or bad. this could mean that they put a lot of work into it so it would be really good, or it could mean they're idiots.
the nitendo revolution's backwards compatability all the way back to nes is pretty awsome, but thats what i have emulators for. i won't be buying one of those because nintendo hasn't really impressed me in the past.
i don't get the whole"microsoft is taking over the world stuff." they make good products.

oh, and gafgarion, this is not aol so try to speak in real words, and maybe throw a period in there once in a while.

Ah, but he does indeed throw in a period in the second line, about two-thirds in, even if it doesn't make his post any more intelligible.

And I'm going to buy - none of the above, at least not until 2008 or so. The most promising console right now seems to be the Revolution, especially since it won't cost nearly as much as the other two. I also have a feeling that Sony won't be as dominating this generation in the console market as they have been the past eight or nine years, seeing as Microsoft hasn't made any tangible profit from the Xbox yet and Nintendo hasn't been on top since before the Genesis came out. I don't think that investing so much money when there's nothing but speculation is a good idea, so I'm going to wait a few years and a few price drops so I have a better idea of the character of these systems. You people here are putting WAY too much faith into hearsay about Square-Enix's multiplatform escapades and the mysterious Mistwalker, among other things. If I get a console from the next generation, and I'm not sure if I am, then I'll be making an informed purchase.

and the rev being able to downloading games i think is a crock of hot and steamy bull crap just think about it ppl think good and hard lol

Huh? So you're basically saying that, even though Nintendo stated that the Revolution will come online-ready and be capable of downloading past Nintendo games (meaning either all prior first-party games or both those AND third-party games that have been released on their systems) - which is not at all far-fetched seeing as it'd simply implement a sorta built-in emulator, plus they did mention charging a small fee to do so (not for online) - in the end they were really just kidding? Uh...riiiiiight. What's there to think about other than their claim making perfect sense?

Anyways, the REAL point of my post is that, after doing a lotta research on the 360, I've concluded that I likely won't waste time saving up the cash to buy it as a possible third next-gen console (or an attempt to Catch 'Em All!â„¢). Sure the PS3 isn't as revolutionary as, say, the Revolution and doesn't have the lineup both Nintendo and Microsoft are lookin' at, but Sony does have plenty of my favorite series still at its disposal, so it'll be a definite buy for me. The 360, on the other hand, just doesn't seem to have any games planned for it that I'm all that interested in, in addition to not really bringin' anything new to the console market. Heck, even if Square were to abandon Sony and Nintendo completely and move in exclusively with Micro$oft, all's fine as far as I'm concerned. Over the past several years I've grown less and less fond of them to the point where I'm not even really planning on buying any more future Final Fantasys. All I'm really looking forward to from them is Kingdom Hearts 2, which is slated for release on PS2, and any possible installments to the Chrono series, to me, aren't worth buying a new system for when I can just play it/them on a friend's (whom I know's getting a Revolution and 360).

So I can safely say at this point that the Revolution and PS3 are all that've caught (and held) my interest.

On the contrary, laszlow. Nintendo was on top with the SNES for quite a while after the Genesis came out (the latter briefly competed with the NES prior to that) and even outsold it overall. They didn't lose their strongest grip until the N64 vs. PSX days. Technicalities, y'know. 'Sides, in those days I still considered Atari #1. I presently consider it #3. tongue.gif

Well, the SNES did beat the Genesis in overall sales, but the opportunity cost of waiting so long to release the SNES was a large blow. The Genesis was released in late 1989 and the SNES was released in late 1991. Sega's two years of excellent sales caused the SNES to play catch-up for quite awhile before eventually surpassing the Genesis in sales. However, by then it was time to think of new consoles, and Nintendo lost any money the SNES won and more on the financial disasters that were the Virtual Boy and the N64.

So yeah, in conclusion, saying that Nintendo dominated the early nineties' console market with the SNES is extremely arguable, especially early in the decade, and Nintendo has only recently begun to regain ground in the console market. Their last period of undenyable dominance was in the heyday of the NES. However, Nintendo has completely owned the handhelds market for the better part of twenty years, no one's challenging that.

uh no i was saying that the rev seems to good to be true the only thing better would be if it could play 360 and ps3 games like bein able to play games back to the nes that means theres gotta be a slot for nes snes and n64 games plus room for the emulators for the nes snes and the 64 plus not to mention room for the revolution games plus a hard disk so unless this thing is as big as say the xbox game cube and ps2 i dont see this happening and a little fee probly like 10+ dollars not no like 2-3 dollars

srry bout the double post i only realized i did this after i posted it srry

But the Revolution won't be able to play the physical cartridges of NES, SNES and N64 games; it'll be able to download them from a special site(s), for a fee of only a couple dollars per game, and play them all through the console, similar to how ROMs are downloaded onto a computer and run on an emulator. The difference is it won't require any separate software like multiple emulators to do so - everything's built-in and cross-compatible, and based on what we know I don't even think the technology is the same as regular emulation (sorry, I'm not familiar with the technical lingo); that was just the closest example I could think of. I think it'll probably have more in common with the Satellaview Satellite, a SNES/Super Famicom add-on that used a modem to download games to the console during specific satellite "broadcasts" (Japanese only, of course), only it won't be as screwed-up and complicated as that was. There won't be a need for extra slots or a larger size. It's a simple concept, really.

I thought the SNES was released in Japan in 1990, but the problem was the near two-year gap before releasing it to the world that contributed to lost sales. Either way, I guess in the end it all comes down to the same conclusion...

I'm with Spiffyness and Snow Storm when it comes to the new Smash Bros. If it's online, which it probably will be, that's reason enough to buy a Revolution! I might get an X-box 360 for FFXI since the graphics will be enhanced and the framerate will most likely be pretty solid. It seems near impossible to build a PC capable of running FFXI at a solid framerate with high res. I tried. pinch.gif The 360 sure has the horsepower, as will all the new consoles. The PS3 seems to have nothing but rehashed sequals... the same old games with enhanced graphics. The graphics for those series are already pretty good on the PS2. Now that Square Enix is likely to go multi-platform, and X-box has a racing game that matches or beats Gran Turismo 4, what's the PS3 have to offer?

Probably PS3, b/c of Final Fantasy, however, if the Revolution does indeed allow one to download all the older games, I may have to spring for it (or, both, except I'm poor)

I'm looking at the 360 and the revolution

the ps3 just looks like something made in desperation to me
and i haven't really liked any FF's since tactics
Edit
although i do like IX

and xbox is finally going to get some more rpgs for it

and the revolution is going to have free online gaming, and all previous nintendo titles

but if i had to choose between all three the xbox 360
microsoft went and did a lot of studies to make their system better
and as i have seen amny times before hard work usually pays off

You know that XBox is getting the FF series, right?

Noooo it's not. Not for now, at least. All that's been CONFIRMED is that Xbox is getting FFXI, and that it MIGHT get other FF games. But just maybe. Heck, it may not get anything 'cept FFXI from Square (and that new MMO that was announced a while back).

But I just realized something: What about Metal Gear Solid? I absolutely love the plot and gameplay of those games, and I think that the next one in the series will stay with Sony like MGS 1-3. Oh well... I'm sure one of my friends will get a PS3, so maybe I won't have to miss out. But I sure as heck ain't gonna buy a PS3 just for MGS, no matter HOW awesome that series is.

Konami's pretty much in league with Sony and Nintendo with its mainstream series. Every single Castlevania game from the past eight years has been either PS1, PS2, or GBA, every Suikoden game has been PS1 or PS2, and every single Metal Gear Solid game has been PS1, PS2, GC, GBC, and PSP. The next two Castlevania games are going to be for PS2 and the DS, and Metal Gear Solid 4 has been announced for the PS3. If they're planning on making themselves available to Microsoft, then we would have heard about it by now, but I don't know for certain what their plans for the next generation of consoles are outside of MGS4.

Either Rev or 360 WILL get the FF series. I'm gettin both, so I dont care. It'll most likely be XBox, though.
