EDIT: This is now confirmed. More details when I get home from Uni.
This is yet to be confirmed, but the next installment in the Earthbound series (which goes by the name of Mother in Japan) is again in development. This time it is for the Nintendo GameCube. http://www.gamesarefun.com/cgi-bin....,24103, For those who missed out on it, Earthbound was quirky, comical RPG for the SNES that stared Ness, a boy on an adventure to save the universe (just your typical kid, right?). It still remains a favorite of many RPG fans. This installment of the series was originally in development for the Nintendo 64. It was plagued by developmental problems and other issues though. The game was canceled as a result. There is no word on a release date in North America, but it is believed to be ready for gamers in Japan by August. In other Earthbound news, Earthbound Zero and Earthbound (Mother 1 and Mother 2, respectively) are also planned for the GameBoy Advance. Neither one is a straight ports; both are believed to have reworked graphics. Source: Games Are Fun *~*~* More Earthbound? I think this is fantastic news. I have neither a GameCube nor a GBA, but this makes me wish I had both. I found Earthbound to be a breath of fresh air the first time I played it. I was quite disappointed when I heard Mother 3 was cancelled for the N64. I still don't think I'd get a GameCube because of this (it wouldn't change the fact that I can't justify spending money to buy a second console when I probably shouldn't have bought a PS2 to begin with), but it is just another reason why the GBA would be a decent purchase. This brings a good topic up for discussion. Would anyone here buy a GameCube or GameBoy Advance solely on these games alone? If not, would they help contribute to the purchase of either? Or are you someone who just doesn't care about the Earthbound series? As a bonus, you can substitute Zelda: The Wind Walker (with its release soon) for the new Earthbound game for the questions. -------------------- "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." - Aristotle |

I don't see myself buying either. But that's unfair, because at the moment I don't see myself buying any system, and I don't have much basis because I only got about 20 minutes into the SNES Earthbound/Mother release.
I also haven't played a Zelda game since LttP. Does anyone out there even own a GC? -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

That's great news for me! I loved Earthbound, and I'd almost have to buy Mother 3. I'm hoping they do make a combo of one and two for GBA, too.

Damn...Earthbound was always one of my favorite games growing up (I actually cried when I had to return it to the rental place) and now I'm going to miss out on the EB game they always promised us but never delivered since I'm too stubborn to buy another next-gen system. I might emulate the GBA ports though.

I own a cube, but I wouldn't dare skip out on ANY zelda, regardless of how cartoony the graphics are, for any game other than final fantasy, and even then it just depends on what mood i'm in.
However, I think I may check this game out, buy I won't buy the GBA version, heh, possibly why I've had a GBA since it came out and...no games? ![]() |

I cringe...I was never a fan of Earthbound. The creator has guts, to create such a oddity.
But that's my opinion. Oh yeah! Are you sure it'll come to the states or europe? My friend'll flip out if it doesn't come. -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. I have a cube, and I have the Wind Waker and while the Gamecube isn't as good as the PS2 by far, and the Wind Waker is "cartoony" they are both really cool. I can't wait for the GBA EB/EBII release, I love those games, they were always so fun. But I don't know about the Cube release, Earthbound seems like one of those games(Paperboy 64, etc.) that will be really stupid in 3-D. EB has to be a 2-D 8 bit/ 32 bit game to be good.
