I was browsing through newgrounds.com for FF-related flash animations and came upon this little gem. It's actually the opening sequence to another flash film by the same guy, Final Fantasy Gil Quest. Anyways, this is all part of a series of films starring Cactaur and Tonberry. Very funny stuff and I highly recommend it to all FF fans.

I've seen these before, and I felt they were awful then. Now, I find them to be a gargantuan quanity of male bovine excrement. Very poor artwork in places (And terrible in the rest), poor audio, godawful soundtracks, rarely-comical "jokes" (and if they are funny, they're funny once and that's it, no wit or originality in them at all), and honestly, how hard is it to draw a FAMAS or any other gun that he failed to draw? I proudly admit: I could not do better than this flash, but a good person knows their limitations. Crazy Boris does not, as if he did, he's never have released these awful awful flash animations. Half the sound was canned stock sounds, the original sound was terrible, and the loading screen of the one it was really for (fugitive, and it's very apt it be called that, as it's a criminal offence that Gil Quest even got a sequel)

And what kind of an idiot says 'MGS creators' when 'KONAMI and Hideo Kojima' is just one alternative that says the same thing, but without looking like the writer's last remaining braincell has exploded? The man is clearly a few bricks short of a mansion.

I could nitpick flaws and errors in pretty much any animation that he's made, if I could stomach watching the rubbish. Most of the postitive reviews on Newgrounds are clearly the work of cerebrally-challenged fanboys and numpties, whislt the few negative reviews are pounded into the dirt by all the fanboys saying 'omg u hav no rite to live if u not like this!11!'.

C'mon, it can't be that bad. I thought it was funny. But there's no accounting for taste I suppose. It's a flash animation, so I wasn't expecting top quality production values as it was, and yes the jokes weren't the greatest either, but a little inane humor is good every now and then. In any case, Cactaur sounded exactly like I thought he would, even though I had never thought of what he would sound like until I saw the video.

Well they weren't exactly drawn the best, but I saw the humor in it. I laughed a bit as I watched, I liked it for the most part despite the flaws. laugh.gif

I liked how they used one sound effect from the game. the rest sucked. which is too bad. it could have had a lot of potential if it wasn't done by some nerd with a bad sense of humour.

Some parts were funny, but overall it was pretty mediocre, it could've been alot better if the voice acting and the humor was tweaked.

That was pretty crap. I regret wasting time out of my day watching it.

I agree with Del.

I too find that animation to be repulsive. The voice acting is really crappy, the artwork is crap, the music is crap, and the list goes on. After watching this God-awful animation, I'm gonna stay the hell away from any of Crazy Boris' other "animations".

And while I was looking at the reviews of the animation, I noticed that all but one of the reviews was either a 9 or a 10, when it should have been 0's, IMO. Of course, those reviews were obviously written by no-brain fanboys, like Del said.

Two thumbs way down.

Wow, I'm suprised at the outrageously negative comments posted on here. Granted Cactuar Gear Solid is my least favorate of the Cactuar series, but the rest of the comics that Crazy Boris has created has me laughing for ages. I really didn't bother to critique the quality of his graphics or sound, because A: It's 10x better than anything I could have done on flash, and B: Because I was watching it for it's humor value, not style. (The baisics of the age old video game, 'Graphics Vrs Gameplay' arguement could be applied here)

Anyhow. If you watch a few of the episodes where Cactuar and Tonberry have diolouge, you might be more favorable, or not. To each their own.

My browser's as reliable as a house made of wafers when it comes to flash sites like Newgrounds, but I'll try to watch it anyway and maybe edit my opinion later. I find it strange that negative comments galore only tend to pique my interest more. tongue.gif

Edit
Hmm. Now that I've viewed it, I really don't understand what's so disgustingly terrible 'bout it. I've definitely seen MUCH worse that this can't even hope to compare to. The artwork, while not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, is far from awful. Granted I've never tried to draw anything in flash, so I honestly don't know how difficult or not it is, but here the characters resemble their intended designs well enough. Not only that, but the surroundings - although simplistic like the overall style used - weren't deformed blobs of smeared color like I've seen in many amateur flash toons. Dare I say the artwork was, for the most part, very well done. The fact that he actually drew everything rather than using modified sprites (minus one scene) is worth, at the very least, a speck of praise, in my opinion. Not that I dislike sprite flashes, but I give credit for the extra effort put into creating the images from scratch.

I didn't find the sound terrible either, albeit a tad (okay, a lot) low in quality. The music and sound effects fit the situations at hand (with the exception of the "Barbie Girl" codec tune) and added a li'l flavor to the funnier bits, which is really all I tend to expect. I also found it humorous, despite in a way that didn't actually make me laugh. Heck, I might've rolled all over the floor if I was a fan of A1 sauce.

I'll admit I haven't seen any of the other Cactuar toons, but this so-called worst of the worst is hardly something I'd jump all over when there's plenty of garbage out there that doesn't even have an iota's worth of thought put into them that this apparently did.
