once when rooting around in the unzipped folder on my computer, i found a hack of ff6 made by somethingawful.com (im not going to do a link cause im lazy). they screwed with everything but it was actually quite funny. has annyone here played it?
if you want to get it, i guess you could do a google search("something awful spoof of ff6," or something). heres a quote: chip in way! what you do to chip? chip fly away! stand back: i throw chip! [runs into door, door explodes, guard comes out and says:] why you throw chip?! I thought it was a pretty bad hack, both from a design and content perspective, personally.
What was terrible about it wasn't the fact that it was designed using an editor and absolutely no knowledge of the inner workings of the ROM. It's that it was full of bugs or badly-implemented things. The stretch of land that cuts off abruptly with no features other than straight, flat tiles in the WoR and the many, many broken enemy AI scripts come to mind. The content was terrible. Admittedly, most of the jokes were inside jokes. But as a whole, a lot of the humor centered around ridiculously childish material such as potty humor. After a while, it doesn't even look like they're trying anymore, and just randomly cram whatever random sentence they can think of. I never understood why anyone liked this edit, let alone half the internet. Anyone can make an edit like that with an editor in a matter of days and come up with something better (Yousei's editor and FF3ME come to mind), heck we could have a CoN ROM edit (or even a full blown hack, but that goes beyond the point of this post ![]() But hey, people enjoyed it and it kept a few people occupied for a couple of hours. I guess that's about all there is to say here... ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Yeah, I have no idea how the heck you can have that many glitches USING AN EDITOR!
Granted, it did have its moments, but overall I'd give it a thumbs-down. ![]() -------------------- The island bathes in the sun's bright rays Distant hills wear a shroud of grey A lonely breeze whispers in the trees Sole witness to history ICO-You were there- |

It is a disgrace to hacks and hackers everywhere. I'm pretty sure I developed a complex stomach bug after playing through parts of it. It was sickening. There was no thought put into it, no real skill or effort, just simply opening up an editor, and changing whatever you can, not caring about space limitations or other frequent issues ROM hackers are familiar with, causing more glitches than can possibly be counted. There were such painful palette conflicts that my eyes hurt. I kid you not when I say that it was this project that made me swear off from using editors unless absolutely necessary (or unless used for simple tasks like reference and balancing strength...it'd be far too tedious to do otherwise, even for me).
Anyways, talking about it more is making me angry so I'll leave off at that. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |

I only played it about thirty seconds because I really wasn't that interested in playing anything like it, including FF6. But I want to throw out there that most of the things people are complaining about, I'm willing to bet were absolutely and totally intentional. They didn't want people to like it because they simply don't care.

One of the lead "hackers" (or editor users, whichever) actually posted on GameFAQs for a while after it was released. That J...X... something or 'nother. I believe he even stated that some of the bugs, especially those around Zozo were unintentional, but it's not like they were planning on making a patch to fix it or anything. I do know the problem with characters taking a step back each time they attack in battle when using the abnormally powerful weapons was intended, either that or their claim that it happens due to their "awesome powerfulness!" or whatever is just a cover and the glitch wasn't intentional.
I played through it twice, actually. To tell the truth, I found some of the dialogue kinda funny, but my stupid sense of humor falls somewhat in that category. As a game though, it's as awful as the name implies. It's littered with so many glitches (damn near all of 'em in the book) and programming errors it's not even fun. Apparently they were going to make a similar parody of Chrono Trigger, aptly named "Awful Trigger". I think it was canceled and turned into a series of flash toons instead, thankfully. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will.
