it seemeth to me, that since Gawain featured in most of those stories, that he would be the most, uh, right... choice
so, yeah - Gawain is my guess -------------------- -In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. -Douglas Adams Slow and steady wont win at the gold saucer -me |

Gawain is the answer.
Though Lancelot is commonly known as Arthur's greatest knight, Gawain played that role in many early versions of the Arthurian legends, such as Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain," which makes no mention of Lancelot, and, of course, "Gawain and the Green Knight," in which Lancelot gets only a passing mention. He's also unquestionably Arthur's finest knight in the works of Chretien De Troyes, one of my favorite Arthurian authors. He's not the main character in any of the De Troyes stories, but appears in each of them as a significant figure by which the main character and all the other knights are compared. Most notable of these is "The Knight of the Cart," Lancelot's story, in which one character says of Gawain, "Arthur has no knight more praiseworthy than Gawain, as is well known," and De Troyes describes him in narrative as, "the renowned and worthy Gawain, the most skilled knight ever to be blessed by the sign of the Cross." From Le Morte D'Arthur forward, Gawain is pretty much portrayed as a fiery-tempered idiot, and Lancelot replaces him as the best of Arthur's knights. Malshun got it, so he's up. |

Tyr who's hand was bitten off when he put his hand in the mouth of Fenrir as a gesture of goodwill. He is also known as Tiwal, Tiw, Tiwaz, Things, and Ziu.

Now I'm on a mythology kick. Here's a simple one:
Name one of Aphrodite's mortal/human lovers. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. Well, there was Adonis, but I don't know whether he was a lover per se, or simply beloved. And, edited for typo.

Correct. Aphrodite took in Adonis from an early age (from his birth, technically), captivated by his beauty. She later put him in the care of the goddess Persephone, who also became entranced by his looks, prompting the two to have a sort of "custody" battle where Adonis chose to spend most of his time with Aphrodite. From then on they had a supposedly intimate relationship until Adonis was killed by Ares, one of Aphrodite's other jealous lovers.
Another of her mortal lovers was Anchises, with whom she bore two (some sources say three) children. Rambling aside, you're up, L. Cully! -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. - Murphy’s Law Boing! Zoom! - Mr. Saturn |

Oh my gosh I feel so special.
Um, okay, Bible trivia, I suppose. The quotation "money is the root of all evil" actually has three words in front of it (really four, but I'll accept the essential three); what are they? This is either really easy or really hard and I don't know which. ![]() This post has been edited by L. *rummages through Old Testament text*
OK, Ecclesiastes 10.19 states that "Money Answereth All Things" or probably also "Money Answers Everything" but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. Are you looking for what Paul (I think...) says in Proverbs (again I'm not sure, trying to draw from memory here...), what I put down from Ecclesiastes, or something else? It's been awhile since I've read the Bible. And also, I'm a classics minor. Why do all of the fun myth questions come out to play after I'm asleep? -------------------- |

What does the abbreviation for the most infamous sniper rifle, the AWP, stand for? In addition, what is the model/brand of the rifle (Hint: it's included in the name if you figure out what the abbreviation stands for) and what are the 4 other types of this brand sniper rifle not including the AWP itself?

In an old, old Tootsie Pop commerical from the 80's or, perhaps, the 70's, a kid is going around asking various fauna how many licks it takes to "get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop."
1.) Which two animals does he ask? 2.) What does the first one tell him? 3.) What does the second one tell him? -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |

1). A turtle and an owl.
2). The turtle told him to see the owl because he didn't know. 3). The owl said "Let's find out. 1...2...3" Up for grabs if this is the commercial. -------------------- Is PJ |

I remember once reading something outta curiosity dealing with that. I believe the answer's around 12%. Or 8% of the times you actually need them (no, don't count that last one).
Note that's just for the first GameBoy game; I have no idea if it differs from game to game. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. OK, neither of those is within 1% but you're getting close. I am indeed using the gameboy version's numbers and used a numer of gamefaqs guides to learn the answer over a year ago. Keep guessing!
