Quote (io_rage @ 27th December 2004 23:13) Also, I agree with DP about Zelda games not being RPGs. They are action/adventure games. I believe the charcters in an RPG have to have some sort of ability advancement ("leveling up"), while Link just gains new equipment. By that standard, everything from Halo to Contra would be an RPG. The Zelda series is amazing, no doubt, and there has never been any game like them, but they aren't RPGs. Actually the system of an RPG isn't that strict. The only real stipulations are that the character interacts with other characters and it has a somewhat in-depth story where your character grows (As a person that is). If you walk into a village and can freely interact with the people in it, you're playing an RPG basically. How strict you are with how 'you' classify an RPG is more to a personal standard. darn those who have consoles! funds don't support consoles so I have to make do with pc and gba. my (pitiful) list:
GBA: Breath Of Fire 2: my first rpg ![]() snes (all roms) final fantasy iv-vi: great series. vi was the best, one of the best games I ever played chrono trigger: what can I say? awsome!! tales of phantasia: my original rom was really bugged but I loved it all the same. when I found a better one I loved it even more. earthbound: the graphics pained me, but it was good all the same. EVO: enjoyed it. never got too far though... lufia: it was ok, not as good as its prequel though... lufia 2: awsome. no game has quite as many puzzles as this. final fantasy mystic quest: never got too far to care, but it was ok robotrek: confused me. terranigma: enjoyed it. got stuck though as I went too fast... secret of mana: would you count this? I would. it was ok but was overshadowed by some. seiken densetu 3: ok, got bored of it though as the controls were a bit poor soul blazer: terranigma's father? it was good for what it was. played similarly. breath of fire: can't forget that one. it was good, and showed that rpgs without square just don't work! secret/illusion of gaia: wierd. using a flute as a weapon? doesn't work well. honourable mention goes to the rpgmaker 2000/2003 games, e.g. laxius power, legion saga, -------------------- "Fire and steel follow me through the lands you will burn hordes of hell in the deadly raging flames of revenge" Rhapsody - Flames of Revenge |

My list includes hard copy, emulated, and incomplete. Incomplete happens when I actually lose the game or save before completion, and haven't returned to yet or ever. As for real -time RPGs, if it's an RPG with action instead of turns, it's still a Role Playing Game. Tactics games count on my list as well.

I don't know if there are any pre-patched versions of the Bahamut Lagoon ROM available, but you can download the Jap. ROM and the English .IPS file (there are a few places to get the latter that shouldn't be too difficult to hunt down) and patch it yourself. Of course, you need an easy-to-find patching program to do this, but it's well worth it.
