The topic says it all, and I couldn't find a topic like this on the search function. Several of us have used the wonderful world of emulators to play games that have never escaped Japanese waters, but wouldn't you just LOVE to have it in an English cartridge? Now that FF V has been released in the US that list is a bit shorter (I'm still used to the FF V emulator's translation that I had; Lenna instead of Reina, Syldra instead of Hydra, Exdeath instead of X-Death), but there are still some there. I'll list four of the games that I've emulated which could really use an English release, all RPGs.

Tales of Phantasia - I don't think I'll ever get the DeJap translation out of my head if they release this in the US, but it's one of the most entertaining RPGs I've ever played. Good characters, great variety, and wonderful battle system. The action aspect of the battle system makes some battles quite challenging without turning in to a crazy beat-em-up like Kingdom Hearts can regress to on occasion.
Chances of an English release: Not high. I know that Nintendo has been lukewarm about releasing the 2001 GBA rehash in the US, but I doubt it's ever happening. Such a shame.

Seiken Densetsu III - I thought this game was better than Secret of Mana (SD II in Japan). I was sort of disappointed with the unique-to-characters weapons and armor, because I loved mixing up the eight weapons in SoM, but just about everything else in this game, from the class changing options and character/party possibilities to the streamlined and improved battle mechanics make SDIII a better game, IMHO. This teamed up with FF V and ToP to fuel the bulk of my emulation addiction of a few years ago.
Chance of an English release: Extremely low. I haven't heard any rumors and I doubt that a US release will get the mainstream interested in the series again. *Prays for SD5 to come out*.

Final Fantasy 3j - I found a translated ROM of this game fairly recently, and I've decided that I prefer it to the first two NES FFs. Any kind of remake in the style of Origins or Dawn of Souls would be wonderful.
Chance of an English release: Quite probably. I've heard rumors about a DS release, which would disappoint me becausee I am not interested in any handhelds beyond my trusty GBA, but any release would be awesome, particularly one with the production values of Origins/DoS.

Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals - I've emulated four of the first six FE games, despite only two of them having any suitable translations, and SoS is my favorite of those four. This is the game featuring the infamous Roy of SSBM fame, and the sixth game in the FE series. FE: Blazing Sword, called just Fire Emblem in the US, is a prequel to this game featuring Roy's father Eliwood and Lilina's father Hector. The feel of this game is very similar to FE7 (one of my favorite games ever), with slightly less refined gameplay but WAY more characters, all on par with the other two FE GBA games in depth and entertainment quality. It's also considerably more difficult then the other two GBA FEs and a good deal longer, but that makes it even more rewarding.
Chance of an English release: Unlikely. Roy's popularity through SSBM (a lot of unsuspecting fanchildren bought FE7 thinking that Marth or Roy would be in it, but alas no) and the success of the two other GBA FEs in the US might be enough to merit a translation and port, but the realist in me doubts it.

So those are my four. If any of those were to be released in English in the US, I would squeal like a schoolgirl. Yeah, you heard me. A schoolgirl.

I was looking forward to seeing Dragon Warrior 5 being released in the US, because I don't want to play Dragon Quest 5 (Jap) since I can't understand japenese, and crap, I don't even know who the people are or what I'm doing..

Another game I wanted to come out already was Final Fantasy IIIj.. I have it on the emulator, but I cheat with the Turbo Training and the State Saves.. I just can't help it.. But I don't own the system they are going to release it for sad.gif .

Bahamut Lagoon, though it'll never happen. I've sang this game's praises enough as it is, but a domestic release for GBA or DS would certainly be welcome.

Another one is Mother (aka "EarthBound Zero"). There was a rerelease of Mother 1 & 2 on GBA in Japan, but last I heard there was no such thing planned for stateside or Europe, much to Starman.net's dismay. Sure, the Nintendo-translated "prototype" of the NES game has been available to ROM users for years, and likely the GBA version is as well, but that's hardly the same thing. Especially for those of us who can't stand playing video games on their computer.

Egg Monster Heroes for DS...I hear it's not that great of a game, but I don't really care. It's quirky, silly, and even has a few moogles. Unfortunately, its American release date got pushed back about 3 or 4 times, and is now TBA. Too bad I can't read Japanese.

Star Ocean:Blue Sphere, because it had the SO2 characters in cuter clothes ^.^
Other than that, I know nothing about it.

Final Fantasy IIIj. This FF is, IMO, the best of the NES games. I've downloaded the translated ROM and I've played some of it, but I haven't beaten it yet.

I agree, because I don't really want to spend around $150 (or whatever the DS costs) just to play one game. But still, I hope they do bring it over here, even if it is on the DS, though the GBA is more than capable of playing it (assuming it is similar to the FFI/FFII DoS remake in terms of graphics).

I wish we'd have seen more of the Front Mission series. FM2 was, IMHO, a masterpiece.

The Megami Tensei series is one I would've loved to get my hands on. Unfortunately, it was never released here due to its overall plot, which was strongly religious and could feature having your character not only oppose god, but fight and kill him. Hrm hrm, little too harsh for us close-minded overseas people. wink.gif

Earthbound Zero-This game is very fun on the computer, but come on! I would love to play this, and Mother 2 on a GBA or DS. More Fire Emblems would be awsome too.

I guess I have two more games to add that haven't been mentioned yet.

Star Ocean (as in the original Star Ocean) - it's battle system is kind of strange, but it's really quite fun and Claude's father is one of the main characters. However, what's really remarkable about it is that in some ways it plays EXACTLY like Tales of Phantasia. The same composer and artistic directors did the game, the menu screens are exactly the same except a few words are different, and when you're walking around a dungeon it looks precisely the same as Tales of Phantasia. I'm not complaining, mind you, but it's almost creepy how similar it is at times.

Kirby's Dream Land 3 (for SNES) - this is very different from Super Star, in a good way. This plays almost exactly like Dream Land 2, except that there are six animal friends and eight absorbable powers, with some of the best, cutesiest graphics you'll ever see. It's only in Japanese, but the only words you'll ever need to see are the title and the stage names, which are in English - go figure.

And GMH, the US is getting ToP in a few weeks (albeit in its worst version) and Megaman Battle and Chase has been released in the US as an unlockable in Mega Man X Anniversary collection.

Oh, and my sentiments about the DS have changed since my last post here - I want a DS.

Of course they were. Almost all of Wolf Team left Namco to form Tri-Ace right after making ToP. It's just remarkable how identical the games feel at times.

And with regard to the US getting the Tales games, within nine months the US will have gotten every mainstream Tales game ever made other than the direct sequel to Tales of Destiny. Destiny, Eternia, and Symphonia have all been here, we're getting Phantasia next month, Legendia later this month, and in a few months we're getting Rebirth almost three years late. We'll also be seeing the PSP port of Eternia fairly soon, and Abyss and Tempest are both slated for an eventual release. Soon we'll have all the Tales fix anyone will ever need.

Edit
I was wrong about Rebirth. I had read that it was receiving a North American release around a month or two ago, but that project seems to either have been aborted or a rumor to begin with. Sorry about that.

Well, I think that the only one for GBA is Phantasia. Regarding mainstream Tales games (by mainstream I don't mean the naikiri dungeon spinoffs or anything like that...), the only one for SNES was Phantasia. Eternia and Destiny are PS1 games (but Eternia is getting a PSP port), Symphonia is a Gamecube and PS2 game, Rebirth, Legendia, and Abyss are PS2 games, and Tempest is a DS game. That's how it is.

Edit
Wait, I made a mistake. The old NA release dates I found for Tales of Rebirth are gone now. It seems that we won't be getting that one after all.

Namco X Capcom (a recent game)

I've seen the opening animation and some clips from the game. It seems to be pretty much a game made for fans of Namco and Capcom. I'm sure its not the best of games but I have no doubt I would have enjoyed it greatly.

It has a plethora of characters from both companies including some obscure older characters from games that never made it out of Japan. Who couldn't love a game with characters from-

Xenosaga
Megaman
Strider
Ghosts and Goblins
Digdug
Street Fighter
Dark Stalkers
Soul Caliber
Tekken
etc.

Super Robot Wars... (rant below)

This is a game made by Bandai that pits all super and real robots against each other in challenging tactics games. Bandai is able to do this because it owns all the rights to all the super and real robots. It will never be released outside of Japan not because of marketing. On the contrary, it will never hit the US because Bandai doesn't hold port in the US. Bandai sells rights to US distributors, and they localize in the US. Therein lies the problem: These companies are seperate entities, some of them quite nasty with permissions (*cough* Geneon *cough*). Super Robot Wars, although one coherent product in Japan, is literally broken up like the Middle East of Copyrights here in the US. Some of these licenses are intangible, as aforementioned they are nasty. It is by this reason that I get most frustrated with games that can't see US release. The standard reason is marketing, demographics, and the like, which makes you go "meh." But this title involves politics when there shouldn't be, which quite makes clear that globalization is not global integration.

Tales of Phantasia-I've got a fan-translation rom though, that translation made it even better.

Tales of Symphonia (PS2)- Played it on my friend's Gamecube. Not bad, some pretty annoying parts, but I don't want to buy a Gamecube. I've got tuition and jazz to buy.

Seiken Densetsu III- I've got a translated rom, and I've played that game to freaking death. It's rather addicting.

Both Star Ocean games they didn't release here. I enjoy a game that has terrific gameplay. Even though they're a bit cliched.

I sure would've liked to play all Dragon Quest games back when they where originaly released back in the 80's and 90's. I trying to get them via emulator since it seems imposible to find them around here.
