Whoa! I just don't like Slipknot's kinda music. I wasn't comparing them to Park and Deftones (at least Slipknot can play instruments)
White Z owns!

Hate to break it to you buddy, but Chino is more talented than you'll ever be. Deftones rule. Simply put, and you guys are stuck on metal created within the 90's. That's the problem. Listen to the stuff from the late 80's and stuff from the last year. I tell you now, Slipknot is crap. That's my opinion anyways, because the 90's branched out with what I call "bitch-metal". They write because oh, no one understands us and we're different from everyone, when really they aren't. It's a real piss off, and it's another reason I dislike the 90's for music.

I mean, christ, even Meat Loaf was more talented than Slipknot, and Meat Loaf has to be the WORST musician the 80's shock metal scene could have possible had. "Bat Out Of Hell" ? Err...thanks but no.

Bon Jovi was great.
I'm actually a huge fan of the hair metal scene. The spandex get-ups, the poofy hair, the artificalness in the lyrics, singing about love and such. It's really fun to listen to. I'm sorry, there isn't anyone alive who won't sing along when "Wanted: Dead Or Alive" or "You Give Love A Bad Name" plays.

wtf? Have you even SEEN my last several posts? I HATED the nineties (not that 2000 is any better)
Chino sux, he doesn't play an instrument, and I can play better than the drummer from that band.
Okay, all that aside, I think we should just do what R51 said, get back to the main topic.

Calm down buddy, it's all gravy. I just so happen to like Deftones, you don't have to or anything, I'm just saying I'd take them over Slipknot, and that it's easy to make comments about how they suck, but look how far they've gone. A band that sucks wouldn't have put up with all the stuff they have, nor would they made it this big.

The 2000's aren't even halfway through yet, it's too early to judge where it's going with music. What it's presented so far, I'm in love with, in terms of Hardcore and metal. It's growth, and it's going somewhere. I think music today is starting to take a page from the 80's. I mean, look at The Darkness and their single, or listen to Atreyu's new album "The Curse". It's a voyage back to glam rock, and I'm so glad it's happening.

All I need now is a Guns N Roses show, and I'll die happy.

OOOOO, needed to blow off steam. Yeah sorry. I personally hate almost all the new bands of the so-far 2000 era (Disturbed, Godsmack, Audioslave being the exeptions)
Slipknot I didn't like but they had the talent. About the 80's inspiration, I did notice that and many old bands are coming outa the closet (ie Aerosmith, KISS, Maiden, Priests, Poison, Styx) Unfortunately Metallica is fading into the age sad.gif

oh, and Gn'R if you haven't heard is coming back (well, at least that's what Axl says) for one more album. thumbup.gif

i said 90's cause all the new gangsta rap emerged and lots of heavy heavy, loud music came out... Slipkont owns!!!!

Slipknot? *shudders*

Anyways...

I relly despise the 90's for most bands. Nirvana never should have happened. Rob Zombie should've kept White Zombie together, because W.Z. is a lot better, at least, in my opinion anyways. A lot of bands that surfaced just never should've happened. Pantera was late 80's, they only went really mainstream when they started putting out "Walk" and "Cowboys From Hell".

In terms of real contributions to music, the 90's was lacking. The 80's were original and awesome at first, but they overdid everything to hell and back. The 60's and 70's paved the way for rock as we know it, and the 40's + 50's had guys like Buddy Holly, and Elvis. Really, I guess up until lately, every decade has made an influnence on music.

You hit the nail right on the head. Like I said... punk is really the only new music that I care for.Even then alot of it is starting to get bad.
Edit
Deftones is my favorite band so rock on to anyone who likes them.

Calm and cool and on track... here's my opinion:

#1 70's - and here's why: most of the best Rock bands that got together in the late 60's (Beatles, Led Zep, Stones, Who, Sabbath, etc, etc) went on to get even better in the 70's. The late 70's also saw the births of punk and goth and even eighties style metal (ACDC, Aerosmith, etc) so it seems like the 70's has it's own best and some of the best work of 60's and 80's bands too.

#2 90's - An in your face protest against anything you could possibly think of. Peace in America got hammered by gangster rap, God got hammered by NIN, authority in general got hammered to death by Rage,Tool made us experience prison sex, Alice in Chains made us all insecure by shoving heroine in our faces. Hyah! The reason I put the 90's at #2 is that a lot of the music wasn't too original. They kind of went back to real punk and mixed it with real metal, but still some great stuff. I wish the current decade could stop being so mushy and find a real motivation and stick up for itself the way the 90's did.

#3 80's - Some real crap in this decade. Even Bowie started declining. However, New Wave actually brought out some very exciting and innovative stuff, and metal started really pounding. Some plain pop music reached some supreme levels of quality too. Examples - Talking Heads, Metallica, Peter Gabriel. Also, don't forget that the Chili Peppers started in the 80's. Winger did not kill the decade.

#4 60's - I love so much from this decade but, as I said, most of those bands went on to improve in the 70's, and Chuck Berry can't run the show by himself. We should all have a tremendous amount of respect for the first artists of Rock. They're great, but there is merely a larger amount of great artists in later decades. Still, give it up for Berry, Holly, Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Cream, etc, etc.

The current decade - It seems like most of the good bands are surviving past superstars, e.g. Audioslave and Perfect Circle who are both formed by members from the best 90's bands. The Chili Peppers are still great, Weezer's still kickin', I love Deftones, Les Claypool and Billy Corgan are still giving us good new music, but I got tired of Emo so quickly. It seems like it's just to easy too achieve the Emo sound, so it will go the way of punk, which is - branch out or fade out. The best punk (or maybe best of any genre) album, London Calling, has Blues Jazz Reggae and just plain Rock mixed in. I think that current Rock is just too bland, and ignores the tremendous reserve of inspiration that has built up over the past 40 years. There is good rap right now, but it's so vastly outnumbered by phony commercial rap.

American music started with the Blues and Jazz, and transformed into a vast assortment of various types of Rock and Hip Hop from all across the globe, all of which I am thankful for. I guess I'm just longing for another exciting musical revolution, since that's what breeds the highest concentration of great bands.

.... and do you believe that I planned on keeping this short? unsure.gif

70's & 90's were my personal favorites. 70's were great because of Pink Floyd, Marvin Gaye, the Ohio Players, James Brown, etc.. 90's had Scarface, P.E.,
MC Eiht, Spice 1, (the old)Ice cube, Pac, the Wu-Tang Clan, Redman, etc..

Had to dig up this old thread because I couldn't believe the 60s were second to last.

Here is a quick list of some musical acts that made an impact during the 60s: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, The Doors, Aretha Franklin, the Mamas & The Papas, Cream, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby Stills & Nash, the Byrds, the Beach Boys, James Brown, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Simon & Garfunkle, and Pink Floyd.

And I know there are some that I'm forgetting.

I love 90s music, with the rise of rap and the last good resurgence of rock music. But the 60s laid the foundation for modern music, and definitely gets my vote for the best modern musical decade.

i can't believe i just saw this thread, and i can't believe even more that i'm only one of 4 who said the 60's. more people have actually voted for the 80's?

where do you begin with the 60s? of course, it must be with dylan. and dylan alone can speak louder than any musical talents of the other decades. especially 60's dylan. the beatles, who hard-handedly took the music business and molded it to their fancy for over a decade. clapton in the yardbirds, and then later cream, was a defining epoch in blues guitarwork. the stones -- how i hate them -- were the first supersuccessful case of an industry-manufactured band -- of course, it was revolutionary. the temptations and the supremes made "soul" music more widely popular even among white social groups. the dead started in the 60's. john fogerty's best stuff was written in the ende of the 60's. the list can surely go on.

For me it comes down to the 70s or the 90s.......so I took my two fav. bands from each. Then it became pretty simple.

The 70s has Led Zeppelin

The 90s has Pearl Jam biggrin.gif

Sorry, I had to go with the 60's on this one. No one in any following decade would have a clue what the hell they were doing without the Doors, The Beatles, Elvis, and the string of all the music groups hat exploded in the 70's.
