I liked wait better, expecially in FF4 J2E. If my Hermes Shoes (haste user) are at the bottom of the item list, I'll get massacred before I get a chance to use it. Useful against bosses, especially.

I don't usually mess with that setting, just stick it on whatever it starts with.  Usually that turns out to be Wait.  In games like Chrono Trigger where it asks you your preference at the beginning, I choose Wait.  Sure, it seems cheap to make the enemy wait for you to go through your menu, but you don't get to pick instantly like they do.

I used active because it created a sense of urgency, and made the battles more interesting.

Wait.  Same reasoning as Neal: the computer doesn't have to press down until it gets to the spell it wants, so why should I have to waste my ATB time on it?

well, this is good thing about custom, I use wait because I take too long to choose spells (even change that in wait ;p)
and sometimes, I take forever to choose who to attack!

I always played through on wait the first time, then on active the second time, just for more challenge.

I tend to use active, not because I'm 7331 or anything, just cause I'm to lazy to change it.

I like active more, because then you have to actually KNOW what you are doing and not spend ten minutes to decide to cast a spell

Personally i prefer to use the wait command because sometimes when you're right in the middle of the battle you might have to do somthing such as get some food, go to the bathroom, yell at your little brother for standing in your way...ya know stuff like that(and yeah i know there is the big bad PAUSE button, but it takes so much effort to move your tired thumbs to press it...) it also helps to have the game on wait just incase you're a die-hard fan that never stops playing and just happens to pass out right in the middle of a fight... :E

I generally go with active, just for more of a challenge.

But I'll admit, it gets pretty irritating sometimes. x_x

I go with wait. It's really chuffin annoying if you're going along at a pretty good clip, and you're pickin' something out to give a death blow, and the bloody thing decides it wants to cast an instant-death spell on you.  >_<  I'm not bitter. I'll be ok.

When I play a game the first time I always go with wait but after I beat the game the next time around I go active cause it is more challenging. So I have to go with active

I'm supprised to find that most prefer "Wait". I just got used to the active system from playing FFIV. I can remember putting it on pause, and suddenly seeing Leviathan waste my party. (Sort of makes you wonder what the point of pause was). Perhaps this was just a bug in my game, or in the Leviathan battle, but I got used to active real fast.
I've never thought of any video game as being realistic, but who takes turns when fighting?

But equally, who only fights when a little bar fills up and then selects what they want to do from a menu?  To my mind, Wait is meant to offset the time you have to spend thinking/doing this, bearing in mind that the computer will be able to calculate and execute its own move momentarily.

I always choose with Active (it does a body good)(lol, joke). In battle i usually think 3 (or 4, it all depends on party size) moves ahead. In random battles its usually just Fight, Fight, Fight (blitz-bum rush just because I can). In boss battles is the only time I use other moves like Magic or such. (exempt from this is ffta and .Hack).
I also like being fast paced, and I can time certain attacks. Also helps in some games to have Active if you have a blue-mage type in your party.

However, I slow down the Battle Time just so I can read how much exp i got, gp i got, who leveled up, what the enemy is saying/doing, etc.

And I like everything harder. Then I'm under the illusion that I'm getting better.

I get easily distracted, so if I use Active and walk off to get something to eat or something, I come back with a dead party. ^^

So Wait works for me!

I prefer Wait. I usually know what command I'm going to use before I have to choose it. In Active mode, the fact that I can be attacked while selecting that command from a huge list adds an element of urgency to the gameplay that doesn't make sense, in my opinion. The nature of these RPGs is to have command menus because there are so many things you can do, and I don't think the logistics of navigating those menus should interfere with the gameplay.

It's a little different when you DON'T know what you want to do. In that case, maybe it is better that you are attacked. mad.gif
