Well, my ps2 doesn't have this problem, but one of my friends' ps2 only reads ps1 memory cards in the second slot for some reason. What you'll have to do is try both slots a few times, and if that doesn't work than try cleaning the disc, lens, cards, and card slots and see if that helps. .

yes, i had the same problem, generic ps1 cards just don't work on ps2. the end. if you have a name brand card or manage to find one, it'll work. or maybe you can design a chip to insert in the ps2 so that it'll accept generic cards wacko.gif

Any brand of PS1 memory card besides the generic Sony cards don't work well with my PS2, so if your using a third party memory card, it probably isn't detecting it. I'd recommend using a generic Sony card if you're playing any PS1 game on the PS2.

FOR THE LAST TIME, THERE'S NO REMA... huh? Oh, for a second there I though this was another FFVII remake thread.

Memory card... right... ummm... ya it's 'cause you don't have name-brand. Not to mention PS2s are the most poorly made pieces of crap on the face of the planet, lol (not dissin' the console, just sayin' they're not the most "reliable" machines). MY PS2 reads generic PS1 cards just fine and dandy, but my friend's doesn't read 'em at all.

Actually, I have the PS2 console anyway, it sucks. I still own one, but only 'cause the GAMES rock. Please don't kill me, I'm just stating that the console is not very good at ALL compared to the Cube and Box. And the controller isn't either. The games rock though, so I ain't complainin'!

In the lamest terms I can possibly describe them in, sometimes the memory card's little metal things get broken or loose (look in the end you insert into the slot) and that can often be the problem. My PS2 card has that problem and it won't the first slot normally.

So, to remedy the situation, I stick another memory card in between the PS2 one and the plugged-in controller and it works just fine. You might want to try that.

I play all of my PSX games on the PS2 and the only games that I have problems with are the oldest games that are scratched so bad, they are beyond salvation (FFVIII sad.gif ). Every once in a while it'll say "Disc read error", but a quick clean and/or maneuvering the console a bit would help that problem. As far as saves, I have no problems.
