Quote (Dark Schneider @ 9th July 2005 16:07) Unless you use a code you can only get one Pink Tail ever. This is denoted by the yellow highlight over the text when you recieve it. It is considered a 'key' item that cannot be gotten rid of except through storyline. Countless stories over the internet have told of legitimate instances where individuals have gotten more than one. Yellow text means Key Item, yes. Key Items cannot be sold, discarded, or given to the Fat Chocobo, yes. But that in no way means there is only one of them. If that were the case, then it would be in a chest or you could only get it off of a boss. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Quote (Daniel Rydell @ 8th July 2005 13:18) Wait. The pink tail mods into armor? Why have I not heard of this before? Possible spoilers: highlight to view Give the legendary pink tail to the guy who first took your rat tail. I haven't done it, but I think he ends up giving you some special ore which you can give to the man who made the Excalibur, and that guy makes the Adamant armor for you. The armor is freakishly strong (analogous in impression, although not function) to the Lazy Shell of Super Mario RPG), and is hence, the reward for trying so hard to get such a rare item. Question: Do Pink Puffs carry an item to be stolen? J/w, since they drop something rare maybe something rare could be stolen too?

Okay, so here I am playing my translated version of FFIV (Japanese version that is) and I make my way to the Lunar Core, beat everything to a pulp, plunder all the treasure, level myself up a bit. You know, the usual. So, when I think I'm ready I go and try to engage the dreaded Pink Puffs. Unlike last time though, I have the help of modern technology. Namely: the Alarm item. 30 of them to be exact. After fighting against these buggers enough times I discover that the reason my characters aren't responding to any commands is that they are beserked. Ah-ha! Part of the mystery unraveled. So, I go looking online to try and find out some more information about these Pink Villians of Puffery.
And what do I find? Not much more than I already knew. I really am astonished at the lack of information on Pink Puffs out there on the web. Almost all of what you can find is limited to either people asking for info about them, or the simple fact of "fight Pink Puff, get pink tail, get adamant armor". Aside from that, nothing. Now, fighting the cursed things with Alarms wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that they almost immediately cast Beserk on your party members. This wouldn't be bad in and of itself, but what could be a 90 second battle turns into a 10-15 minute slugfest. What's worse is that there seems to be no pattern to who is beserked. This is what I've come up with so far: Pink Puffs have two abilities: the standard "Fight" and the special "Dance". "Dance" is initiated soon after the start of the battle and is followed by theBlack Chocobo theme music being played. At least one character, but more usually three or four, is/are beserked. In my experience, the ones most likely to be berserked in order from most susceptible to least is Rydia Kain Edge Rosa Cecil Rosa can successfully cast "Dispel" to cure any character of the Berserk status. Neither Esuna nor the Remedy item cure Beserk. From what I have read online about various armors and items, nothing that can be equipped negates Berserk. In my experience, if I wait just long enough and have Rosa start casting a spell with a sufficiently long enough charge time so that she is still charging when the "Dance" ability is put into effect, she will perform the spell and not be put into Berserk mode. I can then use her to Dispel Rydia and fire off one or maybe two Bahamuts before the music changes to the regular Chocobo theme. Whenever the music changes tune, Berserk status is reapplied somehow. Presumably, one (or all) of the Pink Puffs cast "Dance", aiming for individual characters in my party. This could explain why some are Berserked and others not. Multiple Puffs may aim for the same character, which would explain why 5 Puffs could not Berserk 5 separate characters at once. In any case, the order of the music (as far as I've played it out) is: Black Chocobo theme>Yellow Chocobo theme>Fat Chocobo theme>Mysidia theme. Now, this still leaves several questions to be answered. Does one Pink Puff, or all Pink Puffs cast Dance? Is it simply a battle event? Does Dance target party members individually, or as a whole? What makes party members more or less susceptible to the Berserker status? Is it true that no equipable item negates Berserk? Can anything other than Dispel cure Berserker status? If it is a 1/64 chance of getting a Pink Tail, does that mean fighting 5 Pink Puffs gives you a 5/64 chance of winning the tail? Given how much attention has been showered upon the game mechanics of other Final Fantasies, VI in particular, I'm very surprised that no one has delved into the code to determine more about these elusive creatures and their habits. Hell, we have a guide to the Sketch Bug from VI of all things! You'd think the Ultimate Answer to Pink Puffs, Life, the Universe, and Everything would have come along by now. For all of you Programming Savants out there, consider this your official Challenge Proposal. |

Quote If it is a 1/64 chance of getting a Pink Tail, does that mean fighting 5 Pink Puffs gives you a 5/64 chance of winning the tail? I'm pretty sure that the 1/64 chance is for the encounter, not for each individual pink puff. Also, it isn't a 1/64 chance that a pink puff will drop a tail, but a 1/64 chance that if a pink puff drops an item, it will be a tail. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

A few things.
I don't think the Dark Knightcan equip Adamant Armor, but that's rather moot. I think the Crystal armors or the Crystal Sword/Ragnarok can stop beserk. Finding the Pink Puffs is inifinately easier if you play the Chronicles, and get the Alert item. Pink Puffs are found in a room two (or three, can't remember) floors above the final save point (by the Ribbons and White/Holy Spear) It's a small room with a chest in the corner, roughly rectangular. Longer then it is high. Something like that. (Addition:I've tried for days with the Alerts, I have yet to get it, so if you don't get it don't feel too bad. If you do get it however, I'll worship the ground you walk on you lucky dasterd.) I've tried and got tired after 2 hours. I ended up getting alot of Ninja stars though (which can be bought from the old dude who also makes the adamant armor). Either way, I tried using save state, and it gets rather irritating (yea I tried to shorten time by saving right before the random encounter with the pink puffs, and nothing).

If you use cheat codes to aquire an Adamant Armor at the beginning of the game, you will find that a Dark Knight cannot equip the armor.
It is true that if you equip the Ragnarok/Crystal sword, Cecil cannot be berserked. But what good is that? Rydia is the one you don't want to be berserked so she can cast Bahamut and shorten the life span of these vile creatures. Everyone else would do better (except for Rosa if you're trying to save arrows) by being berserked because they hit harder and they end up being just as fast as the enemies since they don't have to pause to input commands. Alas, I cannot help you with any of your other questions. I am, however, curious to hears the answers. -------------------- "Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard; be evil." |

I found them in the lunar ruins, trying to get to the twins challenges.
I haven't seen this before - maybe someone can tell me what's going on with them in FF IV Advance: |

K, so I'm going to get ready for the assault against the Pink Ones here soon in FFIV Advance. As I've already established, the biggest obstacle to overcome here is the Beserk status. But, with the advent of the Lunar Ruins, we have a crapload of new armors and such that prevent a multitude of status effects. Will any of them negate Beserk? I'll find out soon...
Oh, and BTW, where in the Lunar Ruins pray tell did you encounter the Pink Puffs? It looks like there are quite a few more there than the usual battle in the Lunar Dungeon. This post has been edited by sax_russell_the_green on 15th March 2006 18:14 |

Well, now that I know where to actually go in the Core to encounter them, I have, and my Ribboned out party is unnaffected. I only got an elixir though. I have run into them without the use of an alarm twice though, so I guess they're not as rare as in the original?
They're in the Twins' trial? I'll have to go back there and see. (Unless that person meant something else..) Eight of 'em? Wow! Well, that's only and infintismally(spelling?) greater chance of getting it, but still! Edit: Okay, only the twins take part in their trial, so I guess he meant while he was going to their trial. Or something. Meh. This post has been edited by Zeromus_X on 15th March 2006 20:07 -------------------- |

I hate you. So much.
In any case, I've been having better luck getting through a battle more quickly with the Puffs on the Advance version. My characters are at such a high level now (80+) that they are able to get off several attacks and usually kill the Puffs before they can cast their Dance. Even so, if they do, my physical fighters are able to do signifcant damage now that their attack stat is maxed out. But, sadly, despite my ability to lay the smackdown on the villianous puddles of pudding, I'm down to my last 30 Sirens and have yet to acquire the Tail. At least I can steal more Sirens now from the Alerts on one of the Floor of Remembrances in the Lunar Ruins. It may take a while, but I'll get that Tail yet. |

I'm in the Flan room now, so...well, I'll have to get more sirens, but I'd guess that that's where they'd be at. (It has the same background.) Just need to get more alarms. But would runnning into eight really help your chances that much anyway?

From everything I've heard, there's a 1 in 64 chance of getting the tail in a normal battle with the Puffs. So, each individual Puff must have a 1/320 chance of dropping it, so fighting eight Puffs at once would net you a 1/40 chance. Unless, of course, it really is 1/64 per individual Puff, in which case you would have a 5/64 for five, and 1/8 for eight!

Okay, I went to that room again, and it seems that you cannot run into Pink Puffs (Flan Princesses) in that room, at least, not by Sirens. (You get 3 Dust and Gold Flans though.)
Since my Edge (and other characters it seems, at Mysidia) levelled up to 99 during my solo Cecil run, Edge is quite good at stealing. Good enough to get me more that 99 Sirens And I'm going to about 40 Sirens right now. Of course, I'm raking in cash every battle, so it's worth it. I have however, gotten Fuuma Shurikens and Elixirs, so that's good. However, I'd hate to find out that the GBA version has better odds for drop items... -------------------- |

Unfortunately even Adamant can't fix up Edge's horrendously low magic defense. I have had the Snes version then I got the playstation one and now I have the Gba one. In the gba version I found a pink tail within 20 battles. I have been trying to get another one but I cant find it I have used over 200 sirens and still cant find another tail. Can you find another one tail and get more adamant armor. I was wondering if it is possible to have adamant armor for everyone on the gba version and the playstation version, I know that would require alot of time and patients, but I am just curios. |
