You know what I mean.. That "song" that played in FF1-FF7 and FF9 and I guess the PS2 FFs.. FF8 didn't have it, though..
I have two favorite Crystal themes (Or The Prelude). 1) FFV I love listening this song on the SNES. It sounded crappy in FF Anthology, though.. But the SNES is an exeption to it. 2) FFIV Hmm. It's somewhat good. I have nothing to say about it. But in the remake it sounded like crap aswell. But FFV sounded alot smoother.. And yours? |

The best version of the Prelude is always FFIX, it sounds the best.

FFVIII did have it, it played at the hot dog scene. The song is really the same, just a different instrument here or there because Uematsu keeps rehashing old material.

I love the 7 synth thing they got going on. But 6's will always be my favorite, with the flute/piccolo.

I liked the Prelude in FFVI the best. I did like FFVII's and FFV's Preludes, but FFVI's Prelude was the best IMO.

Ooh, FFIX's for me. It's melodic and haunting, and I always think of someone playing a pipe organ in some dark building when I hear it. 'Tis great!

I like the Prelude in IV the best. It's the first time Uematsu added the second part, and it kicks in at the perfect time. I like the instrumentation too...not sure what it is. Sounds like strings backing up a high-pitched synth flute. It's nothing fancy, but it fits rather well.
The flute version in VI would be a close second. This post has been edited by MetroidMorphBall on 11th July 2005 00:12 |

I do like the VI Fluteness, but I'm gonna have to say IX. That song was just really pretty, and I can play it on my flute.

I liked the flute-y FF6. Gentle, and slightly different. Worst'd have to go to the techno-themed Prelude of FF10.

Quote (Mimic @ 12th July 2005 07:30) Worst'd have to go to the techno-themed Prelude of FF10. Haha, I like the techno Prelude! It makes me want to get up and dance! Seriously, though, I like it. Sure, you're not gonna hear it at a club, but I think the beat is pretty good and incorporates the original Prelude theme as well as can be expected. It's got that whole cheesy J-Pop feel to it, but I think it works in the given setting. |

IMO, the award would go to 7, 9, or 4. They're all good. 5 didn't sound right.

I'd say the one from IX, with VI's close behind.

VII is the best, followed by IX. All of the crystal themes are pretty good.

I listened to all the original FF music over again on Winamp just to make sure of what my feelings were for the preludes.
FFI: What can I say? The NES sound in all it's glory. Gets repetative and grating when you listen to it for like 20 minutes though. FFII: I didn't think this theme was an improvement over the first one. The high notes are especially assulting on th ears. FFIII: A slower version of the original. Again, that high note gets to me. It's really a toss up between FFI and FIII for my favourite NES era theme. FFIV: Ah, my favourite FF prelude. To me it's the most naturalistic sounding of all the FF theme (even the ones I'm not mentioning). The harp sounds are gorgeous and soothing. And with this one, theme isn't as repetitive. This is also my favourite song of FFIV. FFV: Umm.. yeah. I can't say this one is my cup of tea. The sound are very unnaturalistic. FFVI: Another solid version of the prelude. It is a good one, but I find that other songs within FFVI are stronger (Opening Theme #3 comes to my mind as my absolutely favourite opening song for any FF). This version doesn't sound quite as naturalistic as FFIV. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes."
