I personaly didn't like Cecil all that much but by far I prefered Kain by faar. Kain was duuuh man! Anyway would you stick with Cecil or reversed the roles? Or made a new character all together (I put that in there as a joke, I wouldn't change the story that much).

I've wondered what it would be like if Rosa ended up being the hero. You get sick of the "little healer female gets kidnapped while knight goes to save her" plotline after a while.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view She could even still get kidnapped, but find ways to fight her way out. Or Cecil could get kidnapped, and Kain says he'll let him go if Rosa agrees to take his place. Or some such thing. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Between the two I prefer Cecil as the hero. Putting Cain/Kain in his place would change the storyline too much, I think. A large part of the plotline - Cecil seeking and obtaining redemption - would become a lesser concern, twisting the theme of the game into something entirely different. Besides, it's Cecil who starts as the "evil" Dark Knight, raiding Mysidia and stealing the Crystal right from the start, not Cain, so the latter taking the place of the lead also wouldn't make much sense. The only way to make it work would be to reverse the roles and change both characters' backstories. That is unless you do mean changing the story A LOT for the sake of making Cain the hero, or just having the game follow him from his point-of-view rather than Cecil's.
I like things the way they are, though (but I do agree that Rosa would probably be better off being a bit tougher instead of playing the stereotypical damsel). -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Rydia all the way; she's my fave FF character of all time.
Black Mage & Summoner & wields the whip weapon ooh green haired vixen, she should've been the central hero. This post has been edited by alpha&omega on 4th July 2005 06:44 -------------------- An Eternity To Man Is But A Moment To God |

I think it would have been interesting if Golbeze had ended up as the hero. just think he goes out and does all this guys work and kdinaps people only to become the guy that defeats Zeromus. I mean he went through a lot under his control how sweet would it have been if Golbeze defeated Zeromus.

I think my answer should be obvious. Ain't no one else I would have wanted in my party 24/7 and that's the gospel truth.

It would be cool if Rydia was the hero, Cecil & Party are knocked out, and you face Zeromus alone.
But of the two, I prefer Cecil, because Kain is just on a quest for redemption. -------------------- Could you repeat that? |

Cecil is OK, a true hero story...vanquishing his past of darkness, to create a future of light..(I'm not drunk..hic!), Kain doesn't have attributes to be the hero, he's...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view , what more could I say? oohhh...yes, he's not most of the time being your enemy, and if he could , he surely steal Cecil's girlfriend, or not? Possible spoilers: highlight to view half lunarian, like Cecil ...also the legend on the Legend sword should be changed, y' know that one that say: One born of a ...something. -------------------- "Its no cheating if you don't get caught" |

Cecil brought down a military's full force on some villages and spent the game trying to redeem himself.
Cain was a traitor. He betrayed the man who was as a brother to him, and coveted his brother's girl. He did nothing to try and redeem himself - Cecil willingly forgave him and pulled him in with his adventure. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

An interesting plot twist. I always thought about that whenever I played games Personaly, I prefered Cecil. Kain was great and all, but he had too much sh%@ on his mind for me, even for main characters. It wouldn't have worked for me without major plot changes. -------------------- |

I like Kain, but he would be very out of place as the lead character. His shifting personality and weak mind would prevent him from providing stable leadership.
Cecil was a steady presence, redeemed himself, and proved that he was able to lead. He gets my vote. |

In fact, I'd like to submit that Cecil was the best leader of any Final Fantasy. He was reliable, take-charge without being pigheaded, compassionate about all members of the team, etc. He was a grown-up, that one.

Although I think that without Cecil, you don't have an ffiv game at all, I do think that if Square were to do something with this game, as a recent wild speculation has hinted at, they could make an interesting storyline, this time with Kain as the main character. Perhaps they could expand on what we saw in the ending.

I would prefer as Cecil still as the hero because Cecil is what FFIV is all about, without Cecil you have no final fantasy (or not as good as one) If they had made Kain the main character the game would have been completely different and in my opinion, not as good.

I'm with Matt -- keep FF4 as it is (a masterpiece), and make a gaiden for Kain.

The game is fine with Cecil as the main character, I think. Would the story have been told from Kain's POV, a lot of things would be different, and maybe the story would have a completely different feel to it. While it would be interesting to see the differences, I prefer Cec as the hero. (I like Kain a lot, but I think he's fine in the place he's in.)

The only reason why I play FFIV is because of its characters...
Anyway, on topic.. I liked the Dark Knight Cecil but later on I hated him.. I voted Kain because damn, man... He's the best Dragoon/Lancer and looks cool (The sprite version is too bright, though) He would've made a good main character of IV and it would explain why he's on the FFIVj logo too. He's so cool even FFV copied his sprite and used it as the Dragoon sprite for Bartz/Butz. |

For the last time KAIN WAS MIND CONTROLED! And I didn't like Cecil once he went Paladin either.

Quote For the last time KAIN WAS MIND CONTROLED! And I didn't like Cecil once he went Paladin either. Well, no one said he wasn't. (Or did I miss something?) Still, if I recall it right, he was aware of his actions most of the time, so his POV would still be interesting. (Though I guess it would make the actual gameplay pretty difficult. If Kain as the game's hero is mind controlled most of the time, that doesn't leave many options for the player, I guess.) |

Rydia is my all-time favorite character. Cecil should still be the leader but I'd like to see a game about Rydia while she's growing up in the land of the summons.

Cecil. Kain was, according to the evidence presented in the game, a bit unstable for that role. (Well, a case could be made for him, since Cloud wasn't quite stable either, but... .)
Kain being the main character would have resulted in a much different story, and I imagine that it wouldn't be as solid as the present one. Edit Note to JuneLovesLOTR: Final Fantasy VI. (See below.) I think there should be a female hero for once in one of these games. And the person you're aways saving has to be a guy, like you're boyfriend or something (or you're uncle is you're being Eowyn-ish
