This site is decicated to classic Final Fantasy's and one of the series i find close to as compelling as a good ol' Final Fantasy is Suikoden. Excellent Stroyline which connects all four games (although the 4rth is a sad attemt at a moving prequel) and the first three are the best. One of the funniest things is that in each game you get 108 characters which sounds overwhelming but the game makes it work. I'd suggest anyone interested in old Final Fantasy's check out this series.

I loved 1 and 2, played them both repeatedly, but ignored all 3D versions of the series.

I have played and beaten all exept number 2. I liked them all, though, I do agree that number four was severely lacking. I adored 3, not sure exactly what it was that made it so great to me but I just got this great feeling inside every time I played it.

I've played 1, 2, and 3 but have only beaten 3. I've only rececntly gotten the first two, but all three are (or at least seem to be) pretty solid games. It's kind of hard to play the first two nowadays if you haven't already, since they go for so much on ebay... I saw a factory sealed Suikoden II go for something like $170 US. I'm not very eager to check out IV, since the lead designer for 1, 2, and 3 evidently left Konami right when Suikoden III was almost finished, and also because no one seems to like it as much as the first three.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know, one of China's legendary epics, Water Margin, is the inspiration for Suikoden. It's a story of 108 rogues, angels, and demons (those're probably not the best choice of words...) and their exploits. Makes you feel almost cultured when you play it, eh?

I was caught on the Suikoden craze when I was in the 6th grade and my friends told me about this and Vandal Hearts (I loved Vandal Hearts, can't wait for the DS version.)

Anyway, two is clearly the best in terms of gameplay, story, and characters. I still wished my copy would work (its way too scratched up, though). I also have the first one, which I tried to replay a couple of months ago, but I lost intrest and quit halfway through. The third is horrible, I hate the battle system and the characters. The fourth was better than the third, but still lacking.

Nothing beats Suikoden 2.

I only played Suikoden II, and it's one of my favorite RPG games....I did every I could on this game, from LV99 some characters ( with a special technique I have ...raising from Lv 40 to 99..), to get the 108 stars...to defeat Captain Rowd the very first time...the blueprints for that statue, uh.. almost everything I'll say. I loved the storyline, It makes me remember Fushigi Yuugi and FFtactics. You know two good friends, and then...
