Code of the Jedi
There is no emotion; there is peace. There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no passion; there is serenity. There is no death; there is the Force. Code of the Sith Peace is a lie; There is only passion. Through passion I gain strength. Through strength I gain power. Through power I gain victory. Through victory my chains are broken. The Force shall set me free. So, which path would you choose, given the chance? The easier, quicker path to power that lies with the Dark side? Or the longer, (some say more rewarding) path of the Jedi? -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

That's tough, but let's look at it.
The Sith are known as the most powerful and dangerous civilization ever. Their powers are unpeakable and they possess no honest emotion that could hold them back. Some of the strongest Jedi ever have fallen to the Sith and become uber-times powerful ie Exar Kun, Ulic Qel-Droma, Anakin Skywalker, Senator Palpatine. But y'know what the catch is? They all were destroyed (with the exception of Qel-Droma who quit and redeemed himself). The Jedi Have lasted countless centuries/millinia longer and are still around, destroying anything dark-side related, Sith or not. Make your own conclusions. -------------------- I fear my heart and fear my soul Life goes on, it surely will, Without me and I wonder: Will I ever see light again? Life goes on... |

I think you have been playing KotOR a little too much...
![]() I choose the path of the Jedi. True Master over the Force comes from the Light, the Dark is just quicker, easier, more seductive. The Light Side has deadly powers as well, but they are old, forgotten, such as the forbidden Jedi art of morichro, a technique that rapidly slows the body functions of target beings. When one dwells deeply in the dark side, they lose their sanity. Not to mention the fact that you must always be in fear of usurpers. Though I must say that several Jedi don't follow the Code, ignorant. ~ Are we talking about the Sith Religion, or the Sith Race? Though I have never actually seen a Star Wars film, I'm going to assume that the good guys win in the end. Thus would I go with Jedi, because being on the losing team is no fun at all.

I would choose the path of the Jedi. Consider the afterlife. When a Sith Lord dies, he's/she's never seen again. When a Jedi Knight dies, he/she's a part of the living Force providing spiritual aid to friends and those attuned to the Force. I think it would take a lot of strength and concentration to whisk away feelings of pashion and love into the flowing breeze to become a powerful Jedi Knight.

Well if we're going by KOTOR, I'd say Jedi. They're better suited to the Guardian/WM tree, since they get Force Point bonuses on Valor, Armor, and Heal.
If we're talking about the Star Wars universe as a whole, I'd say Jedi again. Sure, they don't have fancy lightning powers, and they don't get to choke people at will, but they're spared the horrific scarring and/or just plain ugliness that accompanies nearly all Sith devotees. Besides, the Jedi seem to have more fun anyway - the Sith are a bunch of hunted criminals who only care about power and revenge and never take a break. Sounds exhausting, if you ask me. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. It's been my conclusion that both the Jedi and Sith philosophies are arrogantly narrow-minded. Were I a Force user, I would follow neither philosophy, and would strive to find a balance between both sides of the Force... passion, but tempered with compassion... power, yet restraint... embracing emotion and yet not controlled by it... always balancing the two extremes until I'd be neither Sith nor Jedi, but something else. To assume an either/or philosophy to the Force would be to deny oneself the full experience, to deny oneself the chance to fully learn from all aspects of the Force and truly become one with it. Under the Jedi code, such can be attained near death, perhaps, but during life... aye... that's the rub.
But of course, the Dark Side is a very... tempting force... ...I actually wanted to write a book, or series of books based on this idea. The only thing holding me back is the sheer volume and quality of SW books written already. I'm intimidated, to be honest... ![]() This post has been edited by Zephir on 1st July 2005 06:00 -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... Dragon's Head * Completed... well since there wasn't a "neither" alternative that could mix the best of both worlds
i would have to say jedi because look at what happens to a lot of the sith, they become deformed and lose a lot of limbs and in the end they don't really have anything to show for it and also well jedis usually have strength in numbers and who wouldn't like to learn how to use a light saber from obi-wan or mace windu those to were the best -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I agree with the Sith philosophy more so than that of the Jedi. Plus, think about it: How many people in the real world would honestly be tempted by the Dark Side? A good number of us, I'd think. It's easy to say you'd be a Jedi if the Force existed in such a way, but human nature dictates you'd be in for one heck of a ride when it comes to striving to remain on the side of Light and never wandering from that path, even just a little.
As for which I'd WANT to be, probably something in-between or entirely different, like what Zeph explained. Perhaps a Jeth...or Sidi. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. I should've added the Path of the Gray side, I suppose. Gray Jedi are Jedi who follow neither the precepts of the Light side or the Dark side. Basically what Zeph was describing. Jolee Bindo was a Gray Jedi, and Yoda has called Qui Gon Jin a Gray as well. Also, the "Lost Twenty" of Jedi lore are achnowledged as Grays.

I want to say I'd choose Jedi, but I am weak. I believe my emotions would do me in, and I'd probably end up going down the exact same path Anakin did. (With the exception of all of a sudden turning on the love interest for no reason). I'd probably do anything for my GF.
By the way, what is KotOR? A game, book series, or something I should probably know about? KotOR = Knights of the Old Republic - Star Wars-based RPG (now a series) for XBox.

While I'd like to think of myself as good rather than evil, I definitely would embrace the Sith philosophy more easily than the Jedi. My emotions are part of everything I do, and if I were to abandon them, I would not be able to perform to my potential in anything I do. If I were to take a Jedi path, I imagine that I would feel something like Anakin felt, that I was holding back my potential and not perfoming to the extent of my ability; for someone with emotions, ambition, and impatience (all of which I have in significant amounts), the dark side is too much to resist.

Path of the Grey.
I would like to be a jedi, but the fact of the matter is: I'm an emotional powderkeg. I stay bottled up until I blow up. I also crave knowledge (the wizard in me), you can catch me watching discovery channel just about every day. Eventually I'd start lookin' in to some of the sith "techniques" with every intention of using them for good |

ZH told me about that yesterday. However, I think what I'm thinking is something that's a little more... complex. It's hard for me to describe... if Qui Gon Jinn for example were Gray, then what I'm thinking of is still something a little different... ... ...I guess the best of way of putting it's that in the philosophy, there is no Light or Dark Side, only the Force. No distinctions. So a practicer of this type of Force use could register as Sith to Jedi one moment, then Jedi the next. Bah, I just clouded the issue again. ![]() The only book I've ever read was the first in the Thrawn trilogy though, so I'm missing out on a whole lot. Edit No wait, and Crystal Star. But that's it. Well, I do have to admit, both the Jedi & Sith philosphy are flawed. Which is why it is true that, as Jolee Bindo puts it, "I see mostly grey." (Forgive me if it is not a direct quote).
But Zeph is also right, because Revan became a SITH Lord to save the Republic, which s/he couldn't do as a Jedi. -------------------- Could you repeat that? |

Already without even giving a thought to Star Wars I believe that the only way to gain control on life is to control your own emotion. So I supose that would mean I agree with the ideals of a jedi?

Sith would best describe the character I wish I could be. The allure of power, fueled by hatred... yeah, that sounds like an interesting life...

I would choose to be neither. There is a small, relatively unknown sect of Force-users known as the "Potentium." These were force-sensitive individuals who were taught by Jedi missionaries but refused to admit the existence of a 'light' or 'dark' side. They used the entirety of the Force, but were largely suppressed by the Jedi, who found them dangerous and distasteful. However, it is important to note that no Potentiate ever fell to the Dark Side. I would be a Potentiate.

I would say that nearly 90% of those posting here would go over to the Dark side, despite what you say. We are emotional beings, and as such, it is almost impossible to suppress those feelings and inner conflicts that abide within us.
