This game made me happy I didn't trade in my Gamecube when I picked up a PS2.
RE is one of my favorite VG series. This one's a little different. It's more like a FPS than the traditional overhead/puzzle view of previous REs. That gives it more of an action feel and less of a strategy/survial horror feel. That's really a minor difference though. This game rocks. I really wasn't expecting much of a challenge, but after getting my head chopped off by a chainsaw about five minutes into the game I thought, "hmm...this might be interesting!" I wasn't disappointed. I died multiple times, and while the game didn't provide much of a challenge in the puzzle department, it certainly did in the action department. Lots of added goodies too. I have yet to replay the game in professional mode or using the new game + option, mostly because the mercenaries side game (crazy shoot 'em up melee) has been occupying my time. I would definitely recommend this, for RE fans or action fans in general. This post has been edited by MetroidMorphBall on 30th June 2005 02:23 |

I've played through it at least six or seven times. I think I mentioned in another topic that it's definitely my favorite game this gen. While it's lacking in puzzles/survival horror, it makes up for it tenfold in action/carnage. The upgradable inventory size and merchant(s) are godsends, too.
And the Assignment Ada mini-game is probably my favorite in the series. Plus beating it yields the Chicago Typewriter, so ![]() -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. I thought it was one of the best games I ever played. As a matter of fact I'm going to pick up for the PS2 when it comes out at t he end of the year just to see what extra goodies they will put in it, even though I heard they scraped the A.I. and went with overwhelming you with enemies.

i played it, and my thumbs thanked me for it. i particularly liked fighting Crowzer, as Leon, not Ada. i don't know why i liked fighting him so much, but i did. deal with it.
the PS2 version, i've got mixed feelings. scrapping good AI for more enemies makes me sad. also, the graphics prolly won't sparkle quite as much. -------------------- moé in the streets, senpai in the sheets |

This game was not originally to be that way. Before Shinji Mikami quit, this RE was designed, starting with an infected Leon.S.Kennedy, trying to save Cherry, and he got awful haluccinations about ghosts and that kind of stuff. ( he even fight with these ghosts!)

Yeah, it's tough to say that RE4 isnt absolutely amazing. It is, in fact, the best game on the Cube, and one of the best in years. I loved every minute of it.
I thought that Capcom crafted a nearly flawless game here. Graphics, gameplay, atmosphere, and style. The action cutscenes add so much depth, and the new camera offers great gameplay tricks. A stunning achievement, Cap. Nice work. 10/10 (Note that this is based upon playing through the game 8+ times, w00t) -------------------- "Dance, water, dance!" -Demyx, Kingdom Hearts II "I met my love before I was born..." -AFI, 'Love Like Winter' from 'Decemberunderground' Currently Playing: Guitar Hero, Shadow of the Colossus |

While I do have to say that this game rocks, it really strayed away from it's original roots when it all boiled down to Surival Horror. There was alot of Survival in it, for such a small village there seemed to be a whole crapload of villagers! And where were all the children? It would've made the game even better to have children coming up to you with knives and meat cleavers, or them hiding in cabinets and boxes and closets and such, now there's yer horror!

It's speculated that the children were all killed, but there's no solid proof of that. Possible spoilers: highlight to view Either because their bodies couldn't accept the Plagas at a young age or 'cause the adults might've murdered them (remember during the credits when it shows the villagers' descent from normal people to parasite-controlled psychos? At one point it visually indicates an adult killed their kid(s)). Actually, y'know that small, wiggling bloody bag you find in a dumpster near the end? Eh, I don't think I need to spell out what I think it might contain. ![]() Quote (Moglv99) This game was not originally to be that way. Actually, I friend of mine told me about this...he's on a RE forum, so he's must be telling the truth. Actually , he also told me that RE2 was not originally to be that way, and when the game was around 70% complete, they quited on keep doing it, because they were suppose to destroy Umbrella on that one, with a mini group composed of Marvin , Kendo, Elza Walker ( some girl, that was like Claire) another cop and Leon ( which was a super rookie, not like we knew it in Re2..),(I got some RE1.5 videos, by the way..if you want to see them PMme.)... well the point is that RE4 was not supposed to be that way.It could be better, and when you play it, you think they could do better, but they did it that way. So be it. -------------------- "Its no cheating if you don't get caught" |

I also agree that this game is one of the best out there. BUT, you won't be feeling as happy about not trading in your GCN when RE 4 comes out on the PS2 with extended gameplay and more on Ada Wong. Not to mention that when you plug in your chainsaw controller on the PS2 Leon actually pulls out a chainsaw. Where as when you plug in your GCN chainsaw controller it does absolutely nothing.

Ya, I want the chainsaw. I don't mind giving it up though for better AI and graphics.
And it has been CONFIRMED. PS2 version has less-than-spectacular graphics and the AI is much less intelligent. It's too bad really, as thats one reason RE4 is so great. *sigh* -------------------- "Dance, water, dance!" -Demyx, Kingdom Hearts II "I met my love before I was born..." -AFI, 'Love Like Winter' from 'Decemberunderground' Currently Playing: Guitar Hero, Shadow of the Colossus |

I remember reading some stuff when RE4 was barely in production and one thing they talked about was about some Shadowy Darkness that would chase Leon in some videos of the game, but as we all know there's nothing like that in the RE4 that was released. Yeah it was really different in the early stage, and as for the "children" thing I forgot about all that, but still I would've loved to have shot some kids in the head in the game, imagining them as the damn kids that run around on their motorized scooters in the street in my neighborood, giving you that damn gaze when you're driving down the street...

Well there were four versions of the game. One was where you play as leon and the game would have had the traditional zombies in which you take down Umbrella. But they decided it was too linear. Another version they decided was too much of a departure from the series which then became Devil May Cry. Yet another of the prototypes was the one you listed where Leon would slowly be turning to to a zombie and have hallucinations constantly. And the final one became the RE4 we all know and love.
But about the graphics BELEIVE me there is a significant downgrade from the GCN version to the PS2. Here's a look at some screens from the PS2 version. http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/resi...ns.html?page=17 http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/resi...ns.html?page=18 http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/resi...ns.html?page=28 http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/resi...ns.html?page=26 Though even the GCN version looked pretty bad at first this is just terrible. Here's a comparison between the two versions. Cube http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/adventure...s.html?page=278 PS2 http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/resi...ns.html?page=39 |

I was linked to a video from the PS2 version a while back of Saddler, in broad daylight, walking toward Leon in the village. Does anyone know if that's an added scene or just a demo for, y'know, testing the engine? Or a fake?
Doesn't really matter, I guess, since I'm not planning on buying the same game a second time. Just curious. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. They've added lots of new content, so yeah, it's probably new.
Here's a list of the things I KNOW they're adding: -New scenes (lots more Ada Wong) -Chainsaw weapon -PRL (laser that removes Plagas before they hatch inside humans) -Luis Sera in Mercenaries Thats not a lot, but thats all we've got so far. Expect new boss battles and such as well, but no garuntees. -------------------- "Dance, water, dance!" -Demyx, Kingdom Hearts II "I met my love before I was born..." -AFI, 'Love Like Winter' from 'Decemberunderground' Currently Playing: Guitar Hero, Shadow of the Colossus |

Resident Evil 4 was the best in all the series. Smooth, addicting gameplay made for one of the best games of the year I say. It was fun and unlike the old Resident Evil games it stayed interesting the whole way through.

I found an interest link. Here you can see how Re4 was meant to be, in which there was an infested Leon Kennedy, who suffers horrible hallucinations of ghosts because he's infested with the virus, and also fight zombies. His mission was to rescue Sherry from Umbrella.( not any president daughter...) SEE IT: http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=7188&type=wmv , .

Yeah, I think the part in RE4 where you play as Ashley was meant as a tribute of some sort to that version of the game.
