FFVII definitely, with FFVIII as a close second.

Traditional Crystal Theme, in good instrumentation.

FFIV.

Edit
I looked at the topic, and wondered why I had already voted in the poll, until I read the poll question. Thing is, though if I were to consider the music of the opening scene, that would be FFVII. Tons of foreshadowing, plus the awesome opening background music, which leads directly into (scene-wise and musically) the Bombing Mission.

VIII. Liberi Fatali has to this date dominated every intro I've ever seen. Heck, that FMV has dominated every intro I've ever seen.

X's music was...pushing it. Luckily for me, it was a genre I dont find terribly annoying, although I know many did. That and the FMV was...well, not up to par with that of VIII (in terms of content).

VII's was utterly forgettable (I played it no more than two months ago and dont remember anything outstanding) and the FMV was, at the time pretty good, but has nothing on VIII or X.

VI is a VERY close second in terms of opening theme.

I'm too lazy to comment on more games, and before I get corrected: Yes, I am aware this poll was for the opening music, and the FMV means nothing. I was simply providing my analysis on the whole experience of popping a disc (or cartridge) into your console for the first time.

Y'know, not that my 4 post opinion matters or anything.

EDIT: Oh great, and now I see the poll says "title screen theme"...well, now that I look like a fool, it goes to VI, because, well, VIII doesnt really have one. IX's was pretty good too...

The Chrono series could really gather support for their themes, even in comparison to the FF Prelude theme. I'm really torn between Trigger's tick-tocks and Cross' underwater lullaby.

Maybe I've heard it so much, but I think I like CCross' the best. It reminds me of "Jellyfish Sea" from the same game's soundtrack, and it's a nice opening screen. The only FF that I like as an original piece of music (somewhat) is FFIX's opening theme. It's haunting, melodic, and if you're playing disc one, you get a cool FMV that accompanies the music. Awesome.

So, I vote "Other".

On that list, FF IX. Other favorites include Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Mega Man 2, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Wild ARMs, and probably a number of others. I put down FF IX because the almost-Renaissance theme is a fresh change from the traditional prelude and a very pleasant song on its own.

Other. FFT's title screen music is my favorite. I also liked FFVI, Chrono Cross, and FFV's title screen music a lot, too.

FFVIII gets my pick, with second place being a tie between FFIX and FFT.

I liked the song on FFV Title Screen.. I think it was the best because on *other* ffs, they were simply just dreaded prelude songs..

I'm assuming you mean the themes for the in game introduction, instead of the crystal prelude, so I went with FFVI. The music suits the mood so perfectly. I could gush more, but the main point is that it really pulls you into the FFVI world.

In FFVI, do the Snow Walk credits count as the Opening Theme? (It's labelled as such in the OST.) Because then it's a runaway victory. Ain't nothin' comes close to Terra's Theme arranged like that.

I've always liked Chrono Trigger's intro music, but I've gotta say that FFIX is a little better in my opinion. The light, medieval melody seems to fit the story real well..I was never in a hurry to load my game with such great music playing.

(taken from a previous post in a thread awfully similar)

I listened to all the original FF music over again on Winamp just to make sure of what my feelings were for the preludes.

FFI: What can I say? The NES sound in all it's glory. Gets repetative and grating when you listen to it for like 20 minutes though.

FFII: I didn't think this theme was an improvement over the first one. The high notes are especially assulting on th ears.

FFIII: A slower version of the original. Again, that high note gets to me. It's really a toss up between FFI and FIII for my favourite NES era theme.

FFIV: Ah, my favourite FF prelude. To me it's the most naturalistic sounding of all the FF theme (even the ones I'm not mentioning). The harp sounds are gorgeous and soothing. And with this one, theme isn't as repetitive. This is also my favourite song of FFIV.

FFV: Umm.. yeah. I can't say this one is my cup of tea. The sound are very unnaturalistic.

FFVI: Another solid version of the prelude. It is a good one, but I find that other songs within FFVI are stronger (Opening Theme #3 comes to my mind as my absolutely favourite song from any FF). This version doesn't sound quite as naturalistic as FFIV.

Conclusion: FFIV for the prelude.

FFIV's prelude is my favourite version. As far as game themes go, I like Final Fantasy VII's (the overland music) the best. As far as I know, FFX doesn't have a theme that's named as such, but if "To Zanarkand" qualifies as the opening music, it's my favourite.

Even though the game was a little strange, I think X-2's opening theme, Eternity, is the best.

Like that was really hard. Well as long if it's the Crystal Theme we know it's Final Fantasy so basically all the ones with the Crystal Theme are my favorite Final Fantasy openings. Then probably FF9. because it was cool too. wub.gif
