For me, it's several.
Male - Jubei from Ninja Scroll. Sick sword skills and had a knock-out girlfriend that was to die for. Also, Son Gohan. Awesome fighter and extremely intelligent too. Was trained by two of the greatest fighters in the world. Rick Hunter. He went from being a circus pilot to Admiral of the entire fleet. Pretty cool, eh? Was a real hit wit the ladies, too. Female - Kagaro. See Jubei. Lisa Hunter: Beautiful, intelligent, awesome pilot. Had a great personality, too. Videl: can't go wrong with a chick that could beat up just about anybody and has a dynamite body to boot. ![]() |

Honestly, I think it depends entirely on what genre you're talking about.
In an overall sense... I think my favorite femal anime characters are... ![]() Hikaru Shidou from Magic Knight Rayearth. She is very selfless and kind. She's clumsy, but she's really determined. We need more people like her. ![]() Usagi Tsukino from Sailor Moon. Yeah, she's a bumbling fool but if you watch a lot of the series, she grows tremendously. There aren't many series that have that sort of growth. Besides, she must own because she's still pretty dang popular in Japan. Favorite male characters... ![]() Naruto Uzumaki from.. well... Naruto. He's so adorable it's hard to not love him. His mischevious behaviour is something most everyone can relate to. He's another really determined spirit worthy of admiration. ![]() My personal favorite male anime character is Tsukasa Domyoji from Hana Yori Dango. He's funny, loveable, clumsy, and generally like a real person. Gotta love that. As well as his hair. Oh yeah. -------------------- ..DDR..Maine.. ..Hikaroo-chan no Deviantart.. <Tiddles> And I love how people suggest "Why not call it my great name?????" when their name is clearly the worst thing ever. <Tiddles> "How about ; Mozilla Xplorer & Mozilla Xpress." <Tiddles> How about you die in a fire? |

Favorite Males:
Yusuke Urameshi (Yu-Yu-Hakusho) Joey Wheeler (Yu-Gi-Oh!) Favorite Females: Genkai (Yu-Yu-Hakusho) There was another girl but I can't remember her name right now... I think she was Inuyasha's girlfriend... the girl that follows him around everywhere.... Anyway, I liked her too. -------------------- "No matter what happens, I will always be with you... forever." ---- Pocahontas, Pocahontas "Only those who are already at the top are rewarded without trying."----- Delita Hyral, Final Fantasy Tactics http://www.ffshrine.org/fft/fft-midi/1-42-back_fire01.mid ---- My favorite FFT battle song |

Arkia: Cowboy Bebop is a series, not an anime character. >_>
Kilakandra_DiMenia: You mean Kagome Higurashi? I had to work to reduce these to five male and five female. -Female: Ed from Cowboy Bebop Yukino Miyazawa from Kare Kano Mutsumi Otohime from Love Hina Ahiru from Princess Tutu Yomiko Readman from Read or Die -Male: Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist Inuyasha from Inuyasha Kakashi from Naruto Fakir from Princess Tutu Ryoga Habiki from Ranma 1/2 This post has been edited by Elena99 on 13th October 2004 23:20 -------------------- I had an old signature. i'll be the first and probably last here to say i think the gimmicky, one-dimensional, transparent characters in naruto are among the worst ever written up for any modern anime. i mean, even the most evil character (itachi) is a walking cliché. naruto just gets "better and better" -- dragonball z style. rofullz. anyway, here are my picks:
best anime male characters: ・spike spiegal (cowboy bebop): can anyone argue? not only is he the badass-est character to have ever graced anime, he's also a moral lesson, AND he knows jeet kun do. ・roy mustang (fma): ok, so he seems like kind of an asshole, but it's all an act. he's a good person with a good purpose, plus he plays with fire. ed gets honourable mention, but his over-the-top self-confidence pisses me off sometimes. ・mataiti (hundred stories gossip): i don't know why i alwaysn liked this character so much. i guess it's because the writes of the anime were able to work in deception so well to a character who represented change for the better. ・hisoka (hunterxhunter): again, i don't know why i like this character so much. actually, i probably like kurapica better from the same series, but the way hisoka was developed makes the audience grow to like him (if perhaps grudingly) from absoltely hating him in the beginning. female: ・fay valentine (cb): at the risk of being billed as a cb fanboy, i had to include my favourite anime character of all time on this list. she's bitchy, doesn't take shit from anyone, lives for herself, AND is voiced by megumi hayasibara. five thumbs up. lol. ・triela (gunslinger girl): i don't remember her last name, or if she even had one, but the oldest of the girls was my favourite. she's the most lethal, the most developed psychologically, and is kind of a mentor to the other girls. ・misao makimati (rurouni kensin): what can i say? what's not to like about a hyper ninzya-girl who is totally infatuated with one of the main character's arch-enemies? |

Hard to really pick one, I suppose. I'll try.
Male -Kyo Sohma (Fruit Baskets) I just like his personality really. As much of a girly anime this may be I enjoy it, and the characeters are very interesting. I don't suppose anyone here has ever heard of this anime? -Hei (Yu yu Hakusho) He's just so awesome. Nuff' said. -Miroku (Inuyasha) Comical relief mostly. "Would you be so kind as to bear my children?" -Sesshomaru (Inuyasha) Smart, powerful, demonic. Truly an awesome character. Female -Umi (Magic Night Rayearth) You can sut up about me and the girly anime stuff... no really. But I just thought that she was interesting compeared to the other two of the series. On a side note though, maybe I should start watching Naruto, looks interesting. -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. Misato... that name reminds me of how much Evangelion frightened me. Would you like it if a bunch of mentals were the only thing that stood between the world and total destruction?
anyways... Male characters... Kaneda (Akira)- He's 16 years old and got to save the world from a human god. That's pretty good for being on the earth for a decade and a half. Himura Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin)- I would not at all mind learning the ways of Hiten Mitsurugi. And battoujutsu/iaijutsu would be pretty nice too. Vash the Stampede (Trigun)- There's no one more misunderstood than poor Vash. Female characters... Kamiya Kaoru (Rurouni Kenshin)- Despite Kenshin being way out of her league, she's still got more than enough skills to compete on a national competition level. Meryl Strife (Trigun)- I don't know anybody more determined to carry out a job than Maryl. Sexay! Edward (Cowboy Bebop)- Ed is truly a one of a kind. -------------------- "It is a part of human nature to be evil, and it is a part of human nature to destroy evil, therefore, when evil is destroyed, so will be the human race..." - Atma |

It seems like a question I should be able to answer quickly, yet I can't. Here's what I could come up with.
Male: Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop) - He's the main character of my absolute favorite anime of all tiime ever, plus he's ten different kinds of cool. Much like the series itself, he melds all sorts of awesomeness into one collective awesomeness that is 100 times more awesome than the sum of its awesome parts. Or something. Char Aznable (Gundam) - He's likely my favorite mecha pilot ever, and one of the best characterized throughout the years. His skill is peerless, and he has a very complex personality that unravels and evolves throughout the Gundam series. Plus, the sheer number of knock-offs that he inspired (Zechs Merquise being the most prominent and the most shameless) has to count for something. Nicholas D. Wolfwood (Trigun) - My feelings on the Trigun anime as compared to the manga are mixed at best, but I love Wolfwood in both. What's not to love about a chain-smoking, hard-drinking priest gunman with a secret identity? Hatake Kakashi (Naruto) - Kakashi's just really, really cool. Everything about the way Masashi designed him works out wonderfully, from his calm, affected appearance to his awesome ninja skills to his weird personality quirks (Come Come Paradise?). I'm tempted to put both Rock Lee and Aburame Shino on the list too, but I'll limit my list to one character per series. Canti (FLCL) - There's no explaining this one. Canti rules. Female: Ukyo Kuonji (Ranma 1/2) - Anybody who's ever had a discussion with me on the topic of Ranma 1/2 knows that my only real fanboy weakness lies in Ukyo, whom I loudly proclaim to be perfect in every way conceivable. I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to that, honestly. Jiyu "Jubei" Nanohana (Jubei-chan the Ninja Girl) - Possibly my favorite female protagonist of any series, Jubei miraculously manages to be a pretty normal girl considering how spazzed-out the anime actually is. I have an affinity towards Wolfwood (Trigun) and Hare (Monster Rancher), but that's just me. I haven't seen that many series, so my judging isn't very straight, but I like the ones I said.

Female:
Kino - Kino's Journey. She's a wandering traveller, but she's far from your generic goody two shoes who sticks her nose in everybody's business to help them. She walks her own path and tries not to interfere with those she comes across, and usually succeeds. Plus, her journeys make you think, even if they are mostly depressing. Male: Bolt Crank - Eat-Man. As far as wandering hero-types go, he's a whole spectrum of cool, with one of the more unique superpowers of any character around. Unlike Kino, he does help people out of sentiment, despite being a mercenary for hire, but he's usually so slick about it, one can't help but admire his tact. He usually helps out in a way the people he's helping don't expect, and evenif you see it coming, its still cool to see him do it. Plenty of other characters I like, but those would be the top two, generally. I hate to revive such long-dead topics, but I'm on a bit of an anime-high right now, don't ask. I'll give a Final Four for each sex.
Favorite male characters: Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop - CB is my favorite anime series, period. Spike is sort of a stereotypical sarcastic loner but he pulls it off SO well.... Alucard from Hellsing - This guy is the primo badass of all anime, period. It's hard to call him a true antihero, but that's probably the best word for him. Just watch the series. Millions Knives from Trigun - This dude is evil. He is the perfect destructive foil for all of Vash's bordering-on-ludicrous love for all living things. A great manipulative-arch-nemesis-type. Seita from Grave of the Fireflies - This was one of the most unsettling and depressing movies I've ever seen (in a good way, I guess); the things that Seita goes through (I'll avoid spoilers) would leave anyone in tears. Favorite female characters: Nausicaa from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - No one makes heroines like Miyazaki. She is strong, cute, emotional, and caring, and has a hell of an adventure to her name. Kagome Higurashi from Inu-yasha - I really hate her sometimes, but at the same time often sympathize with her. She's very strong-willed for someone who wears one of those fukus, that's for sure. San from Princess Mononoke - Lots of emotion in this one. She isn't exactly the kind of princess that needs rescuing, and serves as a bridge between the human and demon cultures as well as an important voice of reason to the Boars and Wolves. Haru Haru Haruko from Fooly Cooly (Furikuri) - You have to see her to believe her. She's the only person who knows what the hell is going on in that series, which is saying something. Plus, she bludgeons stuff with a Rickenbacker. Awesome -------------------- |
