Does anybody use these characters when they play the game? I class them as special characters as they have something unique to say on the formation menu. this time round of playing, i completed the whole of chapter one at level 4, so when i started chapter 2, i had these guys drafted into my main party straight away (they start on level 8). If you count these as characters ion their own right, that makes a full house of 16 at the end of the game as follows...

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
1.Ramza, 2.Rad, 3.Alicia, 4.Lavian, 5.Mustadio, 6.Agrias, 7.Rafa, 8.Malak, 9.Melioudol, 10.Orlandu, 11.Beowulf, 12.Reis, 13.Worker 8, 14.Cloud, 15.Boco, 16.Byblos.

I try to keep these guys, and form an entire roster from the characters the game gives you, even if it does inculde the worst charcter in any game ever...

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Malak, like you had to ask...

Yeah, so, does anyone else love Gafgarion's boy and Agrias' Knights as much as i do?

Yup, I always take them too. Although I usually keep another generic and kick Boco to the curb, all those eggs get annoying after awhile.

Except on a Master File, I strip 'em of their equipment and dismiss them. I usually start the game with two generics now, so I don't need any when I start the second chapter.

I planned on my master file to make Rad an all powerful monk. What I call a Funk Monk. Why? Because he's Rad of course. Sadly, I don't remember the other two. I did have a Cary though. But did I get her from a recruiting shop or no?

Agrias's troops, right? I took them in, I stripped them of their stuff, sent them around the world on a wild goose chase of a job hunt and booted them out when I had no more room in my party. I prefer having the units from the first fight in chapter one since they have had the chance to gain so much more JP. Also, as the game wears on, you get so many units that invitation starts becoming near impossible unless you drop somebody. And yes, with the way I play, invitation is important since it's how I upgrade my equipment when I'm low on cash. Which seems like always. . . . Hmm.

When you got and egg of a monster you can say which it is ( for example you got the egg of a dragon..), ( before it's born, of course...) just keep doing up,down,up,down,up....well, until you can see the portrait of the monster ( for example you see a Dragon, of red color...but just for a little , very little moment..) but can say which color is.. thumbup.gif , if you don't like it, just destroy the egg, if you like ot...poach it.

I usually keep Rad around for a little while and then kick him out. I love when they beg to stay in the group biggrin.gif

I've kept them on a couple files, but in the end I'd rather have characters named after friends

I always keep them. I occasionally play games where I have all special characters w/out any default generics or invited enemies. On those games, I dismiss Boco in exchange for poachable monsters and then I'll use invitation on generic enemies that I like or recruit lv. 1 squires from the Soldier Camp. If Cloud could start at level 1, then why can't Johnny (random Squire)?

As far as Malak and Rafa, I'll make Malak a ninja, and Rafa a summoner (with equip armor or magic defend up so she can learn Zodiac) because they're default jobs never work for me.

On topic, Rad, Lavian, and Alicia stay with me either until the end or they die on me. I like to keep Alicia and Lavian as master Knights and I usually make Rad into a Theif/Ninja.

Edit
Those three I usually take on bar propositions as well.

yea, I also use them to take jobs on the bar propositions.
I'm also getting a bit annoyed by Boco's Eggs. some times he give me a good monster and most of the time, weak monsters. so I gave them a good kick!
and I often give Rafa one of my stolen magic guns to make her a deadly character to have. (equip gun is the no.1 support ability for Rafa)

I never take Rad, Alicia, and Lavian because by the time i get to chapter 2 my characters are usually around lvl 10 or 11. Rad,Alicia, and Lavian just dont make the cut for me.

I usually take rad, but not alicia or lavian - and this is why:

rad makes one hell of a mage. he's naturally good at it.

Rad isn't naturally good at magic. His statistics are just those of a male Squire, which means he isn't as good at magic as a female character (or Ramza, who has female MA). His Faith is around 60-62 or so, I believe, which isn't that great either, and that can be manipulated with Talk Skill anyway. He does start with some magic, and the Oracle class open, but that's about it.

*sigh*

Like many before me, I take them in, take their stuff, and tell them to leave.

Honestly, I don't see the point in keeping them around. You get 6 generics at the start of Chapter 1, and by the end of Chapter 1 those guys have all that exp, jp, etc. Rad, Alicia, and Lavian have to start from scratch. Also, you won't have enough room for the special charcters when they start to join.

There's something to think about. Lavian and Alicia are clearly accompanying Agrias, but I never really affiliated Rad to Gafgarion. I suppose all answers point to him as another mercenary guard. Maybe it's because male squires look so naive and innocent?

The reason I affiliate Rad to Gafgarion is as follows...

In the very first battle, When Agrias says that theres no need to kill the knights, Gafgarion orders Ramza and Rad forward. I'm not sure of the exact wording, but its something like, "Rad! Ramza! Let's go!"
I suppose Rad is a mercenary, much like Ramza, who ends up with Gafgarion. So always assume Rad and Gafgarion have some history!

I affiliated Rad as Ramza's best friend after losing Delita at Fort Zeakdon (or so he thought). Don't ask me why, but I have a tendency to bring Rad with me in my Gafgarion battles.

Rad a generic but powerful warrior indeed. i don't think i remember Alicia and Lavian. But i had four generic's -Rad the master summoner. -Daniel the unstopable monk/samurai. -Opal a wizzard deadly beyond imagenation. and -Mcnorton ninja/knight of many talents. I miss them....

I think the official story is that Gafgarion and Ramza are mercenary partners and that Rad is Ramza's apprentice. And of course the two chicks are Agrias' knight underlings.

I had never really used Rad, Alicia and Lavian until my most recent replay. In the past I was either too attached to my generics (we've been through alot together smile.gif ), Far overleveled for them to be of any use (except in the one case where they cheered up that hack artist Mameko in the Igros bar, Good job guys! Then I had to kick Lavian and Alicia out because they thought that dancing for Mameko would be beneath them. I then left Rad to guard my stuff and feed the chocobos why the rest of the army was off killing things.), or I just simply had no room, kept them for awhile and then gave them their pink slips.

This time around I lost a character
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
fighting Algus
(I rarely reset when I lose a generic) and had two open slots on the roster because I had only been using four characters. I dumped Alicia because she shares a name with a particularly evil ex of mine and turned rad into the Singing Samurai and Lavian into the Lancer Dancer. I'd say they turrned out pretty well...
