I think Ramza's mother's maiden name was Ruglia, and he changes it to that as a sort of protest against the bad things his family is doing to tarnish the honor of the Beoulve name. He tells people he's a Beoulve if they ask because it's an important part of the backstory and they need to know his connection to everything that's going on, and if he said he was a Ruglia they would be missing an important part of the puzzle concerning Ramza's role in the events around him.

It probably would have degraded the story a little bit if Ramza had continued to deny his genetics after Gafgarion calls him out on it.
Gafgarion: "You're a Beoulve!" Agrias: "Ramza, are you really a Beoulve?" Ramza: "No, my name is Ruglia" Gafgarion: "Don't lie Ramza, yes you are." Ramza: "Nah uh." Gafgarion: "OMG, you are such a liar!" -------------------- "That Light has bestowed upon me the greatest black magic!" |
