I've been bitten by the Star Wars bug again and was thinking about getting this game so that I can swing a lightsaber around. Anyone care to share their thoughts on it? It'll be a serious commitment for me since it means I'll have to put down WoW for awhile.

If you've played the original, I suggest you play it, since there's more to it. Anyways, if you're not a Star Wars fan, you might consider renting it first. I was a little confused at first and then decided to look at the online guides and then in the end the first one turned out to be the better one... Still, the fact that you can make your companions Jedi is great... smile.gif

It's an amazing game. it's really detailed and the influence system is pretty cool. If you're an HK-47 fan it's really killer, because he has some great lines including a big thing where he makes fun of the members of your party in KOTORI. i'd suggest it. When I got it I didn't sleep through an entire weekend while I was trying to beat it.

Edit- That's another thing. It's a much longer game than KOTOR1. It took about 2 times as much time to beat. The pod racing is more fun, the upgrade system is capable of making your weapons godly, and there's alot more oppurtunities to make money. Pazaak is even a little more fun.

Essentially, it's D&D with Star Wars. Seriously. It's THAT awesome.

There is a LOT of stuff taken out.

You start out as a Jedi.

I'd recommend it. There is funny dialog, like when you first get Visas and talk to Kreia, HK has a 'different' view on love, etc.

Much like the original KOTOR, I can't stop playing KOTOR II. I just can't. The KOTOR series immerses you into the Star Wars universe better than any other Star Wars game, which is quite a feat considering it's set some 4,000 years before the events of the movies.

If you liked the original you're sure to love this one, since you don't have to suffer through five hours of being a Scoundrel/Scout/Soldier before you become a Jedi. Though the game is fundamentally identical in terms of gameplay - which is by no means a bad thing - there are a few additions, notably item creation and lightsaber forms, that keep the action fresh and interesting. The plot and characters are just as good as the original, as well.

At this point I probably like this game better than the last three movies combined. It's great in so many different ways. Oh, and word to the wise: buy it for PC.

I love KOTOR II. Back when KOTOR I came out, my then-roomate bought it, and there was a span of about a month when we were all playing it and replaying it. You couldn't tear me away from it once I started. I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I really like the world of Star Wars, and KOTOR is incredibly addictive.

KOTOR II is equally as good. All the good things about KOTOR I were kept, and they added on to the workbench feature. Another good thing about the KOTOR game is that you can play as, say, a woman first, and then play again as a man, and the story is slightly different. Of course, you can also play as light, then as dark, and the story is different. I'm incapable of being mean to fictional game characters, so I don't really succeed at being dark side.

The ending of KOTOR II left a big opening for there to be a KOTOR III, so I'm hoping this happens. Each game can theoretically be stand-alone, but I think it's best if you've played KOTOR I before KOTOR II, so you're not wondering what all this Revan and Malak stuff is about.

Edit: I played it on the X-Box, so I don't know how it is on the PC. I tend to prefer playing a game on a console rather than the PC.

kotor 2 is a addicting game with an interesting style of gameplay
i highly suggest it

the only thing about the game that i have trouble with is loading times
between every sectiopn is a tedious loading time

idf it wasn't for that i would constantly play this game, above all others

After having played through much of the game at this point, I must say that its only real weakness is that it's far too easy. Once you pass level 20 or so and get all the buffing spells (especially Master Speed) as a dual-wielding Jedi Guardian/Weapon Master, there's really no enemy out there who can touch you.

Of course, the plot and characters are so enthralling that I don't care. And it is especially cool to jump around like a real Jedi, totally invincible.

Actually, I've noticed that KOTOR II gameplay is stacked a little toward the Light Side. Whereas in the original KOTOR the Dark Side was an equally attractive option, because Dark Side Consulars had access to a superior selection of offensive spells, the weakness and inferiority of the Consular progression in KOTOR II lends itself to a bit of a Light Side bias - Light has much better buffing spells, and thus is better suited to Guardians. This means nothing to me, because I always go Light Side anyway for Master Heal and all the great buffs - the Guardian/Weapon Master is my favorite - but it is interesting. It's also worth noting that Light Side players get access to a lot of easy influences (Bao-Dur, Handmaiden, etc.) and a potential Jedi character (Mira), while Dark Side gets less opportunities for influence (except for HK-47, of course) and a relatively unimportant non-Jedi character (Hanharr).
