Ok, don't laugh...I have dial-up.
STOP LAUGHING! I want to get a wireless router to play my DS and soon, my Rev, on WiFi. Question is, do I need to hook the router up to a modem and have a net connection, or can I just plug a cable in the back and play with dial-up? If so, would it be slow, or would it not matter since its wireless? Basically, can I, with dial-up, play my DS over WiFi without spending money for monthly payments? Also, what router do you recommend? The Linksys one? Thanks in advance, homies. -------------------- "Dance, water, dance!" -Demyx, Kingdom Hearts II "I met my love before I was born..." -AFI, 'Love Like Winter' from 'Decemberunderground' Currently Playing: Guitar Hero, Shadow of the Colossus |

I hightly doubt you'll ever see a wireless router (or even a router at all?) that will take a RJ-45 telephone jack. A router is intended to share a connection among multiple devices, and sharing a dialup connection is utterly pointless - there's not enough capacity to go around.
Additionally, playing games on a console online with dialup would only get you mocked by the other gamers, to be honest. Your ping would be really high and would either get you killed/beaten constantly and/or your lag would irritate the other gamers. If you move up and want a router, Linksys have for a while been a very solid choice. I've never used their wireless versions, but Netgear was also a favorite of mine when I used a wired router. I would avoid Motorola, from personal experience. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Well there are hot spots around the world where the DS can get on the wireless network.

Good news.
Nintendo is also making things easier for gamers without wireless Internet connections at home. According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Nintendo will release a wireless USB network adapter that can be hooked up to the PC and act as an access point for the DS and Revolution. Specific details on the USB adapter haven't been disclosed. So you aren't doomed afterall! |

Specific details on the USB adapter haven't been disclosed. So you aren't doomed afterall! Unless Nintendo is going to be giving out free internet access, then he still needs the $40 a month for broadband access. An "access point" is merely a bridge from a wired connection to an unwired one - it still has to plug in to that big silly internet. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
