The third and final Next Gen topic. Here's all the NEW info we currently have from E3:

http://www.cube-europe.com/news.php?nid=7773

That includes a pic. Yes, the Rev HAS BEEN REVEALED. Finally. It looks better than the PS3 and 360 if you ask me. Its sexy, sleek, and tempting. The price point and whether or not the downloadable games will be free will be announced in the next two days. Booyaaaa!

Also note that the new LoZ has been named:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

(Mods, if you want to delete the "News of Revolution" topic you can, if you see fit.)

Hmm... well, at least it's not a space handbag. happy.gif

It looks um... well... like a spare DVD Drive for a PC.

I'm possibly the only person who'll be happy at the fact it's said to be only about 2-3 times more powerful than Gamecube, as thats a good sign for the gameplay. Of course, it's still got the Stigma of the 'kiddies konsole' problems inherent with platformers and such, but the few games I will be interested in on the nintendo consoles should be playing better than the nearest PS3/XBox equivelant, in theory, sicne less time will be spent on experimenting with the Graphics.

It's typically Nintendo: It's seemingly all about the games and less about gimmicky add-ons. Hopefully, the cheaper of the three, and it's nice to see they've caught up on the DVD front.

Still, these console wars look like heading for a repeat of the last one, just like the games on the consoles will be repeats of the last ones...

Y'know, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm really hopefull of Nintendo this time. If Goldeneye is one of those 'fan favorite' downloads, and they add Internet support too it, you gotta admit thats tempting! And the new Zelda looks lush*.

Well this is just the prototype. But I'm pretty sure the final version will be similiar. Also tommorow on E3 is supposed to be Nintendo's show. Many reporters know that Nintendo has something up their sleeve. Some say it might actually be playable tommorow. But I guess we just have to wait and see.

The Revolution will feature AAA titles from every home system Nintendo has made available for download at an affordable price.

I hope by "affordable" they don't mean $20 each, or even $10. $1.99 per game would be more like it.

But yeah, it looks like a CD drive for a computer with a blue light on it. How lame! Those people on there talking about how beautiful it is must be high on something. This looks more like something from Sony than something from Nintendo. Perhaps it's an indication of a new image Nintendo wants to create for themselves. Instead of making a lunchbox, they make a PS2-look-a-like.

Nintendo is trying to win over third party support by making a system that's easy to develop for. Only time will tell if it works. Making game making more accessible is a good idea.

I personally think it looks fantastic. The PS3 is beautiful, but the Revolution looks better.

Not only that, but after reading a recent article, I think I may know the reason that they didn't show the Rev controller: there may not be one.

Take a second to think about what the Rev promises. Their "Hollywood" and "Broadway" engines give us gameplay we've never had before. How? I doubt graphics are the only thing here. Now...the graphics card is Broadway. In our world, Broadway is live, right there in front of you. Do you think that the NintendoOn console wasn't just a fake? Who's to say that Nintendo doesn't have a major ace up its sleeve? I mean...it has to revolutionize something, right? A good way to do that would be to...actually step toward virtual-reality.

Also, about the downloads, I believe it will be free for any Nintendo game, and a small fee will be charged for non-Nin titles released on a Nin system.

Like Phunbaba said, we'll have to wait and see.

Those people on there talking about how beautiful it is must be high on something.

Or perhaps they're people with an appreciation for minimalist design. To my mind, they've taken what was wrong with the previous generation of consoles and tried to go in a very different direction. This unit is small, simple, and not ostentatious - I think it's quite gorgeous, relative to the bigger-than-it-needed-to be Gamecube. Now that I've seen all three, I have to say I like Nintendo's box the most. All three companies came out with better looking stuff than they did last time around, but only Nintendo really came up with something that I think reflects the best of Japanese post-modern design.

Wow, that's a small conosle and I have to agree it does look pretty good. But of the three consoles being released, it seems this will be by far the least powerful...

As they say it is what you do with it but I am thinking this will probably effect them in the long run, as the other consoles will have the ability to do so much more.

But perhaps if it is the cheapest next generation console, this might not be so bad.

I still haven't decided which one I'm likely to get, this one looks impressive but ultimately it's the games it has that will do it and nothing else. For example, which one has the final fantasy series continued on it would greatly effect my decision.

lol. The gamecube was always the cute tiny one! Girls used to giggle at me when they saw that thing placed next to my roomate's Xbox. But seriously, I like that the new design and that nintendo finally got a clue and decided to make a system backwords compatible. Not that I really care, after all I own every console they've ever made and I'm not repurchasing my old SNES games.

And yet the playstation2 is still the most popular console in the country...

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. How long have you followed Nintendo's business and marketing practices? It'll be a cold day in hell before they give away any content they could easily charge you for.

Interesting little tidbit;

---
"There’s a bit of interesting info buried inside the press release for the Nintendo Revolution, that seems to imply they might be giving DIY developers some freedom to run homebrew code: “Freedom of design: A dynamic development architecture equally accommodates both big-budget, high-profile game ‘masterpieces’ as well as indie games conceived by individual developers equipped with only a big idea.” They make it a small point, and Nintendo sure hasn’t been talking up this aspect — but if there’s any truth to it, this could be a fairly big move in the gaming console world, to start with an intentionally open platform right off the bat (as opposed to waiting for all the brilliant hackers to inevitably tear your console to shreds, anyway…)."

I don't like the trapezoid. It bugs me.

I'll buy this when Willow and Legacy of the Wizard from NES are available for download...which I doubt will ever happen, since those were hardly "fan favourites."

I guess I'd be tempted if you could get Secret of Mana, and my cart stopped working.

I do agree that it seems like Nintendo has finally gotten its collective head out of its ass. Backwards compatibility is a must for a lot of people, and if they've finally managed to catch up to Sony in terms of cool things they're going to do with the system, there might be some real competition in the market again.

Nintendo said their downloads were from a consumer perspective, not a business one. They don't plan to make us spend lots on games.

Ok, so Nintendo did not release anything today. In fact they I think they said they won't reveal the revolution completely until next year... Only 365 days of waiting left : ( According to that 360 will have been on the shelves for quite a while and the revolution won't even be revealed. Nintendo swore that in the next generation they would not be left behind again, but so far it's looking that way.

Oh, and like the other Mario games weren't directed at kids. You can't expect Mario to grow up with you.

Sorry if I'm crushing your hopes or anything, but I don't think they'll be releasing GTA: Super Mario anytime soon.

Personally, in my book Revolution is at the top of the list in new gen. consoles.

-Backwards compatability (Finally)
-Best design
-Best long running game titles are still sticking with nintendo (Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and I'm sure that there will be more FF being produced for the nintendo, but definatley not all of it.)

Hey, I'M excited.

As for the DS, they tried something new. It was brave of them, you can't blame em. Personally I think that the DS is pretty good, with anly a few weaknesse, as opposed to a handheld console withan unresponsive SQUARE button. Not like I'm directing that at anyone in particular, of course not.

i would have been happy if they made a mario like the one for the nintendo 64 ....
and hopefully with this new system they will be able to suceed because yes they are the best in my book though i own them all.....
but wait a minute you guys think that the system will cost alot about $$400$$....
because if they offer downloads they will have to make up for it somehow even if the just boost the cost.... they just cant give it away can they?????????

First of all Nintendo said one of their goals was to make a affordable machine. So I'm thinking 199.99$.

And Revolution details by the end of the year!

Nintendo intends to finalise the price, launch date, colors and other details for the Revolution by the end of the year, Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo Japan, said yesterday.

"We plan to give details on when we will launch it, what the price will be, what the controller will look like and how games can be played on it by the end of the year," said Mr. Iwata, speaking to Reuters at E3.

He then explained his reasons for not revealing much at E3 the reason simply being... he "didn't want to tip his hand to rivals".

He also said "In the past we tried to entice new users with increasingly sophisticated graphics, improved sound, and complex storytelling, but to a big extent, I think we've pursued that as much as we can".which most likely means we won't be seeing PS3 like graphics on the revolution (which doesn't matter but graphics are still a selling point).

He said the company was already talking to third-party game publishers about including their old Nintendo-compatible games in the downloadable archives.

How Nintendo intends to manage this service has not yet been decided, with Iwata giving suggestions such as charging users per game, selling pre-paid cards in gaming stores, or give some games away as part of future promotions.

Nintendo seems to be one of the few companies left in the industry that's content to let its consoles be consoles first, without gimmicky add-ons, and for that I respect them immensely.

That aside, I'm just curious as to what the "revolution" is supposed to be. From all the press releases and interviews you can tell that there's something really unusual associated with it, but precisely what that is supposed to be is a total secret. It's definitely got me intrigued. But I also have a feeling that it's either going to be total genius or total crap, with no room in between.

Nintendo has always been an "all or nothing" company. It's Nintendo that has made absolute decisions, not half-assed attempts or taking back of what they proclaim. When they say "revolutionary," they mean it. They also aren't stupid, they know what we have and haven't seen.

I'm really interested in seeing what the "revolution" will be, as SM said. The system looks cool and all but I don't know if it'll live up to its name. We now know that it's a traditional "console", and has controllers. What is unique about the system hasn't been revealed yet...

The "revolution" is the controller, I can almost assure you. I think I know what they're after with it, too. If it's anything like a pic I found, then 1st-Person gaming will evolve FOREVER.

I think Nintendo might have actually come out with something better than Sony.

Playstation > N64
Playstation 2 > Gamecube
PSP > DS

These are my opinon of the systems. I am though, a huge fan of Nintendo, and own an N64 and many, MANY gameboys. (I sort of pawn them) But I've always known that playstation is better, and thats why i wanted one so bad. (And I finally got one).

But this time, I think The Nintendo Revolution might be better than the PS3, from the looks of it. Hard to say what the graphics will be like.

Oh, and the controller looks like something I would hit my brother with. :X

The controller is what worries me the most. The fancier something is, the more likely that it will go wrong. That goes for automatic windows in cars as well as for video game controllers. And how much is an extra controller going to cost for this system? Prices are already ridiculous enough.

I have to agree with this. Microsoft are rushing out their console, as they think this will make it the overall winner, considering the PS2 was out first last time and it did the best.

I am looking forward to seeing how the Revolution turns out. I wonder how they will deal with the controllers being recharged.

Although the Revolution does look cool, I probably won't get it.
I am a Playstation gamer; I have a crapload of PS games. Backwards compatability rules.

On the other hand, the ability to download games sounds interesting.

BTW, the only Nintendo console that I have ever owned is the NES. I have never gotten another Nintendo console.

The "revolution" is the controller, I can almost assure you. I think I know what they're after with it, too. If it's anything like a pic I found, then 1st-Person gaming will evolve FOREVER.

I believe in them. Have faith. Nintendo will get it right.

There's almost a 100% chance that the pic you saw of the controllers was undoubtedly fake. The only people that REALLY know for sure, is Iwata and other high ranking nintendo officials.

Also a WiFi enabled Super Smash Brothers Melee has been announced a launch title. That will be so awesome. To be able to play online against other SSB fans in hopefully huge arenas. I can also bet that the chooseable fighters will most likely double.

Nintendo has been in the gaming business for a long time. They have either gone all out, or done nothing at all. They aren't the type to half ass things. They know what we have and haven't seen. If they say it's a revolution, it sounds like one to me.
