Ok i know this has nothing to do with any FF game but i need you're help. anyone know anything about rpg maker 2000!?! well i'm having problems. the play button whenever i push it i says"cannot open file system" help!??!!?

The first lesson will deal with capitalisation. Capitalisation is very easy to master: as a rule of thumb, the first letter of any sentence will always be capitalised. The "Cannot open file system" error message means just that: the program cannot access the files it needs. These files are various default images, sounds, and various other files which are sample resources you can use in your game. RPG Maker 2000 comes with a large amount of these, but because of the size of the file, they are generally not included with RM2k itself and must be obtained as a seperate download.

This default resourceset is called the "RTP." When installing RM2k, you need to install both the game and the RTP; one without the other will get you nowhere. Also, when installing a game created with RM2k, every file used in the game must be included with it. If some files are missing, the same error message will pop up and you'll have to track down the author and ask for the missing files.

RM2k, being commercial software translated and distributed on the internet without the conscent of the authors (ASCII), is not legal. For this reason, I'll refrain from posting any links I've found during my 5 minute google-diving quest to answer this question. However, it shouldn't be a problem to simply google for "RPG Maker 2000 RTP" or to download it as well from the site you obtained RM2k in the first place.

You can ignore the next part. This should be the answer you need, and the rest is just personal opinion.

If you're interested in anything more than just messing around with RM2k (such as, for instance, developping a serious game,) I recommand you download Dev C++ from http://bloodshed.net/ and look for a few C/C++ tutorials. Once you've learned the basics, experiment with SDL.

Many people scoff at programming languages in favor of game makers because of the effort it supposedly takes to learn a programming language. Effort? You can make a simple 2D RPG up to par with RM2k in half a year, starting from scratch. Which is very little time considering you can only go up from that point on and surpass RM2k-level games. And quite frankly, an RM2k game is not impressive: everyone knows the system, the graphics, and the engine used. It gets old, and can hardly be improved on. If you're ready to bite the bullet and spend a little time learning some serious stuff, however, you can literally make your dreams come alive with very little effort.

But of course, if all's you want is a quick and dirty game and you're not up to investing a bit of time into things, it's your call. You get, after all, what you work for. Not everyone's interested in making a serious game, and some people just want to flat out make a game no matter what the end result. So it's your call.

You probably put a file into the game, deleted it and forgot to take it out whatever you actually programmed...

...that or you hasn't downloaded the RTP.
